  1. I love the shine! Very impressive. What's this about getting eggs? Medaka? Expensive? Hardy? (My first thought reading that is "ME WANNA," so it seems I should ask.)
  2. Surely I did not just read that. 🤣🙈
  3. I do this too! I guess a lot of us do, but I've never thought about it. My "only emergencies" are labeled as such on the ziplocs I put them in, but that and overflow are just all piled together in one dumpstery box. And indeed, most of the bulk of that stuff is heaters.
  4. @Beardedbillygoat1975 Is that gleaming white last fish pic a medaka?
  5. @gardenman Do you happen to know if the coop's nano pumps can be quieted when the vibrating sound turns into a rapid ClickClickClick?
  6. Interesting, and a good heads-up. I have an angel that started out acting like a community fish, then morphed into a yappy ankle-biter ate age 4-5. The differences in a single fish are interesting, let alone the differences in a single species. I'll definitely have a back up plan when I finally am able to have a betta.
  7. To not put backpressure on the pump, I use a gang valve. The unneeded air can be allowed to seep out from the valves I don't have airline attached to. For what it's worth, I have five of the nano pumps people are talking about here. Whether or not you get a quiet one is a gamble. Two of my five are loud enough that they've been banished to places I'm not usually near.
  8. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks they're creepy! 😂 I wouldn't say it about someone else's critters (spiders exempted), but these specific critters of mine give me the heebie jeebies, even while I really do enjoy them.
  9. @Odd Duck or anyone who knows, If you put fresh superglue in the tank, how long does it take before it's safe for fish and snails to touch? Also, does it off-gas anything sketchy?
  10. @Gideyon I think it was on this site that I recently saw someone mention that long-finned tetras can look like goldfish. They very much do! Since you're interested in goldfish, and aiming for a 20 gallon, maybe research long-finned tetras. They'd fit better.
  11. This is epic. But also, I've had 3(?) brands of heater eventually let teeny bits of moisture in from the top seam, where the glass tube met the plastic. I'm pretty sure that IF your heater ends up doing that, this constant water movement will make it happen sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed, but I thought I should give you a heads-up.
  12. I think @Fish Folk just won the internet for today, but I can add one thing! I have 1 angel in a 29 gallon, and it's really pushing the edge of being big enough for him. For what it's worth, a 20 gal might have been big enough when he lived alone. He used to pick a parking spot, in any size tank, and just sit there. But now that he has platies to chase, he'd probably love a full 6 feet. So if you want a single angel with no stimuli, then maybe.
  13. This is where I get stuck, too. The fish that leave with us can reasonably be called "saved," but...
  14. I'm sure the solution would be another setup. But to make sure that's possible, I'll delay getting a betta for the moment. I did look around online though, seeing if I could land a betta I'm sure to like the color of. Doesn't seem possible, so I guess I'll see what I can find out about local fish stores. (If I have to, I'll do big box. That feels like perpetuating misbehavior though.)
  15. I've been wanting a blue betta for years, thinking I can't do it while I have my bratty angel. But if I could put one with the endlers...
  16. Just making notes to myself for the future. I assume a betta might pick at endlers, but in the scenario I'm imagining, the betta would be too outnumbered to do much damage. What I don't know: Would endlers pick at a betta's flowy fins?
  17. Just for fun, you might could get female mollies, male guppies, and let them make gollies/muppies. They'd be colorful, active, probably big enough, and if you're not great at math, just 1 species.
  18. @JettsPapa I'm new to shrimp. I only have 6, but 1 is now berried, so I've been assuming I'll put them in a bigger container at some point. Did you figure out what went wrong when yours transferred?
  19. I get an increase in nitrates a couple days after adding root tabs, if the amount of new tabs was at least 1 per 5 gallons of water. That's the only parameter change I've noticed.
  20. I hope you can find a good home for your fish. I recently made a long move, too. I brought most of my fish, but it was awfully hard. Best of luck on the move.
  21. Since anubias aren't very hard to take out of a tank, I think I'd do a peroxide dip first, to give the algae eaters a head start. I might even trim off a few leaves, just to get the algae eaters to focus on leaves I care more about. Sorry to not know what algae eaters to suggest. I haven't had that particular type of algae.
  22. I'm going to look up care requirements for those beautiful blue fish. But I was going to suggest platies. They're about 3", come in a lot of colors, are very active, and since you can let them make more of themselves, not expensive! Bonus points: Hardy.
  23. I found @JimmyGimbal's new vid to be enthralling. It has fishkeeping info I've never heard before, and the store owner's story is inspiring, too. Absolutely worth a watch. 🙂 I'm just posting this to help make sure you get the opportunity to see it. I don't want my fellow nerms to miss out on something THAT good.
