  1. All parameters are the same, same substrate plants etc, kh-7 gh-9 ph 7.2 across all the tanks, this one tank they just go lethargic and die off. It’s frustrating and upsetting because it’s happened twice now in a year basically. All the other fish in the tank sift the same substrate and in my other tank I have 10 very happy healthy Cory’s . I’m going crazy
  2. I need some help, I have a 50 gallon tank that’s been running for a year now. All parameters are good, ammonia stays consistent at 0 same with nitrite, nitrate levels are at 20ppm after 7 days, I do weekly 40- 50% water changes . There are 5 neon rainbow fish and 4 maccullochi rainbows, 1 electric blue acara juvenile a peacock gudgeon and a pearl gourami. All perfectly healthy for months. Any time I’ve added my cory cats they start to die off with no overt symptoms. The tank has been treated with prazipro and ich x in the past. I even waited about 8 months after my last incident and added 3 cats about 5 days ago that I raised from babies from my 40 breeder , same water substrate plants parameters etc and I have 10 perfectly healthy Cory’s there, my quarantine tank even housed the 3 I moved to the 50 for almost a year. I’m frustrated and don’t want to move my super red bristlenose or add any bottom dwellers now. I just don’t get it!! 😢
  3. I have a 5.5 gallon tank that was given to me and am looking for a reliable inexpensive heater for a betta tank it’ll have a screened top, so basically open top. Also any decent light recommendations for some simple live plants would be appreciated
  4. Ok Nevermind I did a little research and I think I’m good 🤣
  5. Think this will make my fish nervous? I’m thinking right above my tanks.
  6. Anyone know if my finnex stingray 2 will be enough light for pearl weed in a 40 breeder or 20 long?
  7. So how many of us tell ourselves I won’t spend any more money on aquarium stuff this month? I told myself this a couple weeks ago and then I get an email from buceplant that something on my wishlist is available and I got first shot at it (a total ploy I’m sure 🤣) so $60 later some hygrophila compacta an extra bucephalandra Godzilla and a sword red runner later. Then I thought well I’ll read up some stuff on aquarium co op and had to check out some fish food since I ordered some reticulated hillstream loaches from my LFS so repashy soilent green, sure better be ready for them right? Since I’m ordering might as well check out some plants while I’m here, I’m already paying for shipping 🤷🏼‍♂️ Well how about some anubias and pearl weed. Oh then there’s amazon and some smart plugs for my lighting 🤦‍♂️ Hope I have enough food in the freezer.
  8. Welcome , this is such a great resource and everyone is helpful and respectful here so don’t be afraid to ask away 👍
  9. Thank you everyone for the feedback I truly do appreciate it. I went ahead and set up my 20long today with a new sponge filter and a couple squirts of easy green and threw the plants in there with a heater and hopefully my light shows up tomorrow or Friday I’ll keep them in quarantine for a bit. Bonus hopefully I won’t have to dip them
  10. Betsy I ended up getting Red Hadi Amazon swords and Harbich Amazon swords, bucephalandra wavy green, cryptocoryne wendtii bronze and cryptocoryne lucens
  11. Anybody have a great idea then put the money together and set the plans in motion only to have something throw a wrench in it. I finally pulled the trigger on live plants for my 40 breeder everything is arriving this week and then I look into the tank today and noticed ich on one of my rasboras. I just treated this thing and had been monitoring it for the last 2 weeks and everything looked good. But alas here I am now I think I’m going to quarantine the plants and treat my whole tank again really what I wasn’t planning. Now I’ll have to wait to order the rest of the fish I wanted. Sometimes this damn hobby is just a pain. 🤷🏼‍♂️
  12. So I posted in the plant section earlier, I have plants arriving this week and just noticed a spot of ich on one of my fish, I just recently finished with 2 rounds of treatment using fixick which obviously didn’t do the trick. I’m thinking of using a spare tank to now quarantine the plants instead of setting it up as a fish quarantine tank, but I’ve had a sponge filter going in my main tank and was just about ready to set it up, my question is should I wait to transfer my artificial plants and a couple rocks I was gonna use to jump start the cycle or just wait till everything has gone through the Ich-X treatment, and just cycle the quarantine tank from scratch with the plants in there temporarily
  13. Thank you I’m waiting on my meds to arrive If I notice it increasing I’ll have to run and try something else before it arrives
  14. By the way Cory you were right Fixick didn’t work for me 2 full treatments and it just popped back up. I went ahead and ordered Ich-X from you. Hopefully I’ll be ok until it arrives Friday, thank you for the input
  15. Quick question I have live plants arriving Thursday and Friday and I just noticed I have ich on one of my rasboras. I just recently treated for it and hadn’t noticed anything until today. I just started bringing my temperature back down and was on track to have it at 74-75 . But now I’m having to increase it again. My question is are these plants going to handle 83 degrees or should I float them in another tank for a while? I have some swords and crypts and 1 bucephalandra coming. Thank you for any input on this

Thanks for the response Cory I’ll have to decide here soon whether to switch meds or complete a full treatment and then switch over
  17. I have a 50 gallon regular tank I’m going to set up and would love to try discus. Tank dimensions are 36x18x18 is this big enough for a pair or trio? Another question is my tapwater typically runs about ph 7 gh 1-4 kh 8 ph is usually around 6.8 but tends to increase after being in the tank. I do have access to a lower ph source but it’s hard water and I haven’t tested it yet

Anyone have success treating ick with fritz fixick? Brought some otocinclus home yesterday all looked healthy at the shop and yesterday but the shop was treating a different tank, I knew better but went ahead because they looked good. 0 ppm ammonia 0 nitrite 10 nitrate ph 7.4 gh 4 kh 9 temperature is now 83 after turning it up from 76 and did that over a 12 hour period. I lost a existing rasbora who wasn’t showing any signs of illness and I also Corydoras in the tank. Hopefully this stuff works. I’d bought a 20 long over the weekend to set up a quarantine tank and my aquarium co op sponge filters showed up today. At this point I’m treating my whole tank obviously and I should’ve just waited for my quarantine tank to be ready. Damn!!
  19. Hi everyone I’m about to embark on my first planted tank. I do have experience keeping fish though. I just set up a 40 breeder and used about 40 lbs of eco complete and capped it with some regular aquarium gravel it’s ranging from 2-4 inches and already have a small school of harlequin rasboras and cory , I’m thinking of starting with some crytps like parva for the foreground and maybe wendtii for mid I would like to do a couple swords in the background like little bear or another shorter variety or possibly some sort of stem plants. I will obviously use plant tabs and is a finnex stingray 2 enough light for the swords? Especially where they’d be going is about 10-12” deep due to the deeper substrate is this sounding like a decent set up? And achievable with my setup
  20. Awesome it’s a little work but so relaxing to me also
  21. Me too! I’m having so much fun. I have a 40 up and running, am starting a 50 tomorrow and last night went to petco and got a 20 long for 1/2 off, you went a little harder than did though. Good luck
  22. I’m just getting back into fish keeping after about 20 years away from the hobby. I recently moved into a new granny unit that was built for me. I have a rare muscle disease that is progressive, so we set everything up for accessibility for me. This gave me the ability to get a couple tanks going. I just set up a 40 breeder and have a 50 gallon I’ll be starting this weekend. And tonight went and bought a 20 gallon long! Yes already MTS, I really want to try some dwarf cichlids and compatible community fish. Look forward to being here.
