  1. Hi, I posted this picture a 2 - 3 weeks ago asking if this was fin rot. The consensus was no. It hasn't improved. There isn't anything sharp in the tank. Is the shallow creek gravel too coarse? I purchased Bettafix, but the Coop changed my mind, so it has not been used. I bought aquarium salt and intend to add a small amount with the water change. I don't want brown water, so I am opting out of the almond leaves for now. I want his fins to regrow... help?
  2. I love being devious, Bat! 😇 My landlord and crew are onsite. They do periodic inspections and work orders in the apartments. Although.... I could always cover the tank when they were here.. 🤫
  3. HI, Thank you for the response. No tank mates and water test strips (checked several times) report all normal parameters for nitrites, nitrates...everything. Lighting is warm light with low lighting near the sponge filter.
  4. Newbie: I need determining if this is fin rot or tearing. Attached are new and now pics. I've had the tank setup for 3 weeks and all the parameters are where they should be based on the Co-op's multi-test strips. I have tested the water several times and keeping up on water evaporation. I have a sponge filter (also Co-op) and heater and the temperature is where it should be. I had a so-called silk plant and a couple of betta hammocks (along with a live plant and moss) in the tank. I suspect the fake items may be the culprits. I removed the plant and rounded the edges of the hammocks to make them smooth. Hi LOVES the hammocks. He is eating. He is swimming, but I haven't had him long enough to know what is normal for him. He is the only fish in the tank (3 gallon). Yes, I know...5 gallon is preferable, but my landlord limits to 3 gallons...and I bought the elongated tank at the Co-op. It seems spacious enough. I have read that treating a healthy fish with medication is bad. I ordered Stress Coat, but I hoping someone can tell me if I should treat with antibiotics? Thank you.
  5. At closer look it says a one month program for the nitrifying bacteria. I don't want to wait a month before adding my betta. Thank you for helping this newbie!
  6. THANK YOU for your informative responses. Would this be a good duo for cycling and water treatment? https://smile.amazon.com/API-AQUARIUM-Conditioner-1-25-Ounce-Bottle/dp/B008I7L62S/ref=sr_1_5?crid=33H78WJ0RHUBX&dchild=1&keywords=api+quick+start+nitrifying+bacteria&qid=1612886797&sprefix=api+qui%2Caps%2C224&sr=8-5
  7. I am looking to buy a 5 gallon tank for a betta. I have to buy on Amazon (on a budget.... and friend gave gift card--nice!). I am looking at the Tetra Crescent Aquarium Kit, Curved-front tank with LED lights. Also, PULACO 25W Small Aquarium Betta Heater with Free Thermometer Strip, SACKORANGE 2 LB Aquarium Gravel River Rock - Natural Polished,. Are these good choices? I would like to cycle with fish-in (or in a short period of time, if fish-in is a NO-NO for bettas). I know I need a product for that as well as test kit. Recommendations? Lastly, I have a filtered water system at home which filters out everything, including chlorine, as well as all minerals. Is this acceptable or do I need to use tap and then just remove chlorine.? I appreciate the help. I had my order in the Amazon cart and then found your forum. I want to give my new yet-to-meet betta the best home I can afford.
