  1. @Colu thank you! I will try this. I appreciate the help.
  2. Posted on here on Sunday but his eye isn’t any better. I need more advice. Help please. I have a 2 year old betta that has popeye (I think?). I have been treating him in a hospital tank for 4 weeks now. I used EM Erythromycin for one week, then fritz maracyn for two weeks. I know they are the same medication, but I like the Fritz brand which is why I switched. Everything I could find online said that’s the best treatment. But the medicine did not help at all. Up until Sunday he was still very active and eating just fine, on Sunday he started to get lethargic and hiding so I posted on here to see if I should change the medication. I thought about using salt and was told from someone on here to try it. I added 3 teaspoons to 3 gallons of water (same as 1 tablespoon for 3 gal). After two days it didn’t seem to do anything so I added another 1/2 of a teaspoon. He still isn’t getting any better. What should I do?? Please help, this poor guy is suffering and I don’t know how to help him. He’s not himself but he’s still pretty active for having an eye look this bad. He’s also still eating and pooping just fine. Any help on what to do would be greatly appreciated! Thank you. water temp- 80 degrees ammonia- 0 nitrite- 0 nitrate- 10 PH- 8 I know that’s high, but I live in the utah mountains, my kh is also high so my ph doesn’t move up or down ever.

I used EM Erythromycin for one week, and have been using fritz maracyn for the last two weeks. I know they are the same medication, but I like the Fritz brand which is why I switched. Everything I can find online says that’s the best treatment. But the medicine hasn’t helped at all. He’s been very active and eating just fine this entire time until today he seems to be a little lethargic and hiding. He’s in a hospital tank so his water parameters are perfect. What other medication can I use? I’ve read Kanaplex is often recommended, but doesn’t work very well. I like to treat everything I can with aquarium salt, but can’t find anything on line that says salt is a good treatment for popeye and I’m honestly afraid if I add salt it will hurt his eye??? Any help on what to do would be greatly appreciated! 4. Well, then I don’t think I have any males. Here’s a picture of the third one.
  5. @Henry the fish keeper I’m not sure how I tell if there are any males. I do have one that’s much smaller and not as round. That one is the more shy one though so I just assume it’s eating less, lol. How can I tell if it’s male? And are these balloon Mollys? I don’t think the fish store told me what kind they are.
  6. Hi! I’m not new to the hobby, but I am new to Molly fish. I got 3 from my local fish store and two of them have gotten pretty fat. One in particular is very very fat and has grow a lot in just 6 weeks. I’m not sure if it’s normal for them to be this fat? Or if I’m over feeding them? It’s hard to not over feel them because they eat everything I put in the tank. They will nibble on the bug bite sticks I throw in for the assassin snails, the algae wafers I put in for my bristle nose, and eat the community food I throw in there for the other fish in the tank. Or could it be pregnant? Or is it just normal for them to be very fat? I have only had them 6 weeks and 4 weeks they were in a quarantine tank, they’ve only been in the community tank for 2 weeks and they were not very big when I got them so I assume they were fairly young. They are acting normal, very active still eating like crazy although one of them does seem to be much more shy than the other two. The shy one is also much smaller then the other two. Anyway, I just wanted to know if anyone can tell me if it’s normal for them to be this fat or if there is something wrong with the fish? Thanks so much for any help. I’ve listed water perimeters and attached picture. ammonia- 0 nitrite- 0 nitrate- 30 PH- 8 (I know this is high, I live in utah by the mountains and it’s just always high, my KH is high too so there is no changing my PH, it’s stable and never goes up or down)
  7. Hello, I just noticed that one of my neon tetras eyes looks like it’s gone kinda or like clouded over but it’s more shinny than cloudy… it’s really hard to explain, but I’ve attached photos so you can see what I mean. I have no idea what is wrong with her. Can anyone take a look and let me know what I can do for her or if it’s even dangerous, please? Thank you so much! I’ve never had this issue and I’m at a loss about what to do about it. Her tank mates are a betta, a bristle nose pleco and 8 other neons. I’ve he her for about a year and a half. Water parameter for more information: 20 gal ammonia- 0 nitrite- 0 nitrate- 20 PH- 8.0 KH- 10 water temp- 80 F
  8. Hello! I have been keeping fish for several years now, but I am just opening up to the idea of snails. I was wondering if I need to quarintine Nerite or Mistery snails before adding them to my community tank? I alwayys quarintine new fish, but I am not sure if snails are able to bring anything into my aquarium that could make my fish sick. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!!
  9. Hello everyone! I have a 20 gal heavily planted tank that I would like to add a Bristlenose pleco to. He was given to me (I had very little knowledge of plecos when he was given to me as a gift) and has outgrown the 10 gal tank. The 20 gal I want to add him to has eco complete as a substraight... Will eco complete hurt him? He doesn't hang out a ton on the substraight but I am a little concerned about the eco complete being too rough and possibly cutting his belly. Does anyone have any experience with eco complete and a pleco?
  10. I just added 7 neon tetras to my 20 gal community tank after quarantining them for 3 weeks and using the three meds that Cory recommends before adding fish to your tanks. I noticed that the largest one is looking pretty fat. He/she does seem to always find things to eat so I am not sure if he/she is just a pig and eating a ton or if maybe he's sick? Or maybe they just look like this? This is my first time keeping Neon's so I am new to them. I have attached a picture for reference. Thank you!!
  11. @Seattle_Aquarist I will try that! Thank you!
  12. Thanks @Wes L. and @Seattle_Aquarist! I really appreciate all the help! It looks like what is used in our water softener is Sodium Chloride. When I test the outside spigot water its 11 dGH and 9 dKH so it must be bypassing the water softener.
  13. Thank you @RockMongler! I really apprecaite the info. I was hopeing there was a way to bump GH without bumping KH, but it seems like that is not a thing, so I will have to figure out a way to bypass the softener at lease for my tanks. I have considered going the RO route before so I will look into that some more also. Thanks again!
  14. Hi @Seattle_Aquarist Yes, I do have a water softener. I live in Utah where we have really hard water so water softeners are a staple in most homes to help protect pipes.
  15. Hello! I have just started using live plants in my aquariums. I have put quite a few in most of my tanks. I have a questions that I am hopeing someone can help me with. In my tap water I have really high KH (179ppm or 10 degrees) I have 0 GH though, when I test the GH with the API drops, it doesn't even go the ogrange color, it just turns green when I put the first drop in. This must be a rare problem to have becasue finding answers online has been super hard! I need to know if it is nessisary to my plants and fish to raise my GH and if so how can I raise that without raising my KH? I have a few betta (in seperate tanks) and bristlenose Plecos and a bunch of different low light plants. My PH is 8-8.2 (if that matters) and I never see any swing in it really.
