I only asked because I'm sure the experts will want to know. I'm also told raising them can be difficult and the parents are usually the best for raising them but they don't always get it right the first time. No matter what I bet it's going to be fun and interesting even if it ends badly (you/they can always try again). :).
I'm pretty sure aquahuna is one of the few places we can talk about. It also has the co-op thumbs up and I believe the store gets some of their fish there. I doubt cory would buy or affiliate with them if they didn't meet high standards.
EDIT: Also it appears aquahuna gets auto linked so thats a pretty direct endorsement from ACO
Whats this "easy plant grab bag"!?!
EDIT: oh i got so caught up i didn't see you wrote about it. Thats pretty awesome. was it just some plants that came in too small for them to sell (my other LFS would just sell it ).
A buddy of mine has some very frisky albino bristle nose plecos. they've had at least 3 clutches of eggs. every baby so far has wild type coloration. I was under the impression that albinism is a recessive trait. Is it different for plecos? I'm curious whats going on.
I have a colleague that was doing some research with hydra. The preferred way to raise them is with live baby brine shrimp. I don't know what all they eat but they for sure prefer tiny animals.
Another thread here got me thinking. If you trim Anubis leaves will the rhyzome replace them in place or do they only add leaves to the front. I have one with some rough looking leaves on the "butt" end.
You probably won't find the exact part number. From what I've found they're made to order in quantity for OEMs so its probably only possible to find the whole assembly, ie a new pump. fun fact: multiples of basically this same pump (slightly different) are in every kureg machine.
Those adhesive backed white LED strips from amazon make great tank lights. I just string enough until I get about 1000-1500 lumens on my phone app at the same distance as the substrate. That is roughly the top end of "low light" by my crude estimation. You can get RGB ones too if you want to supplement the white with some other colors specifically.
There's also ebay automotive light strips that work great (see my thread below). And for my shrimp tank I wanted to try out a spot light effect so I soldered wires directly to a 12v "halogen" (LED actually) bulb attached to a diy dimmer.
If you have more time and only chlorine just throw an airstone in your tap water over night and skip the prime/safe.
I also only use half the water and half the drops for the API liquid test kit. (eg 2.5ml and 4 drops each of the ammonia test)
This is the way to live 🙂
Thats pretty cool of him. I imagine since he just housed the fish for a day that his overhead is less so he had room to be nice. Still very cool of him. Maybe he's also hoping you'll bring babies back 😉. I don't even have space but I'd jump on tank raised O. cacama if I saw them in the shop.
I actually considered replacing them with a brushless motor which would last way longer, but as you say, at the price point a brushless motor is really more expensive than a traditional air pump even.
