  1. How many drops is that photo? You're supposed to keep adding until it turns green. Perhaps your water is harder than you think?
  2. interesting! if the fry makes it it'll be interesting to see how it looks, though I have to admit they mostly look alike to me.
  3. You got a Sewellia spp. hybrid? how fast did that grow?
  4. Funny you describe then like that. My first experience with white cloud fry i was walking by my tub pond and thought it had been over run with mosquito larvae. Turns out they were fry
  5. Out of curiosity, how long from fry to ready to mate for hillstream loaches? I tried searching on line but I could only find basically one article recycled across 20 websites. ( Ironically some embedded Cory's care video that contacted their advice)
  6. And here I thought Cory tested everything thoroughly https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxS04VW_W-fCycuxxpd2tW513RD-oE_QQ5
  7. What does a hill stream loach cost these days? Thinking of driving up to Edmonds this week.
  8. I've never tried it but maybe pressure cooker? If it'll fit
  9. I've only been able to get algae to pearl
  10. How much easygreen are you dosing? the "standard" dose (1ml per 10g, so 5 or 6 pumps for you) ups nitrate by 3ppm. Upping your water change volume to 26% and adding easy green would be the same as a 20% water change, in terms of nitrates, if you normally sit at 50ppm.
  11. With a lithium cell that's actually equivalent to what's it's doing now. And worse if it over discharges. In my experimenting it only bounces between charging and discharging under low load( high back pressure). If you let it pump max volume of air it uses the most power which makes the charge controller think it's not done charging so it will never shut off and never discharge the battery preventing it from cycling. So don't restrict the air flow and bleed of excess air rather than choking it off. If you're running on battery then it's actually best to do the opposite as restricting the air flow uses less power in this kind of pump. It's also worth noting that the battery this comes with is the lowest quality 18650 cell I've seen (I only see this low capacity in counterfeits) but it's still good enough to meet the specs they give so if you're handy I'd just let this run as is and replace the battery with a nicer one in a year or two.
  12. It's because they don't have the right charge electronics so depending on load they either bounce back and forth from charging to discharging or get stuck not quite full or fully charged. I think I made a whole post about this a while ago. It's not the end of the world but it does shorten the lifetime of the battery.
  13. Yeah in this case I'm having trouble keeping inverts alive in all my water. I've tried everything short of buying an ro unit (I'm using water through a carbon filter but the internet says that won't catch copper). Cherry shrimp live for a couple months dieing off slowly. Sometimes I get babies but they only last a few days. In my other tank I can't keep nerites alive longer than a week or two. This is a last resort test. Before I go to for everything which I don't want to do.
  14. Has anyone used cuprisorb with a planted and fertilized tank? I'm a bit worried about it adsorbing more nutrients than just Cooper.
  15. It's worth noting that typical heaters with bimetal thermostats can swing the temp by 1-2c every few hours. Nothing wrong upping the heat really slow but I bet they'd be fine going 1c per hour even.
  16. Since you only mentioned the val I'll say that for whatever reason val hates my tank. I tried dwarf saggitaria and it's growing great. It's smaller than the big jungle val, but it reaches 10-12" tall in my tank. Also if you look at pics you often see that the leaves are slightly fatter at the top. This is the emersed growth. the submerged growth, to my eyes, look exactly the same as normal valisnaria.
  17. Another option is equilibrium. It's got tons of potassium and raises your gh which may be a good or bad thing depending on what you want
  18. I'v got a 7g shrimp tank that's got a pretty low population right now. I'm not feeding very much so my nitrates are 0 and i think my plants are suffering. I am using easy green but it doesn't have a lot of nitrate. I've read you shouldn't over feed shrimp but I'm not sure if its because of excess nitrates or other reasons. So what do you guys think. feed more? or supplement with some nitrate?
  19. I can't really picture how many fish 40 lb of fish is but it sounds like a lot. is there enough airation? Assuming chemistry is otherwise okay I'd make sure they have enough o2. How many fish do you get in and how often? Do you feed them at all? If the turn over isn't high enough they might starve. In some cases they may not have eaten at all in the supply chain which could add up to a lot of time.
  20. Sufficiently low ph and you need different microbes which supposedly take longer to colonize. The good news is that ammonia is far less toxic at low ph.
  21. I've noticed both medaka and endlers poop when they see me. Do fish poop when they get excited? Are they making room for an anticipated feeding? Am I crazy?
  22. They do occasionally get spooked and freak out, but it was pretty easy for it to go back under. I wonder if it got spooked and then was sitting still like they usually do but this time it just ended up out of water...
  23. I walked into my bathroom this morning and looked at my quarantine tank and the one otto that lives in there decided to jump/crawl up onto the floaters and hang out like a mudskipper. I thought it was dead so i just stared at it for a while baffled. I should have taken a photo. I then decided to blow on it to see if it was still alive and it just wiggled it's way back under water and swam off. I know catfish sometimes gulp air to inflate their swim badder but I've never heard of this. Water conditions are normal for this tank (soft, low nitrogen). the only other things in this tank are a tiny rice fish from a left behind egg and some cull shrimp that decided to take over. Anyone ever seen or heard of this behavior?
  24. if so, get ready to have 500 while clouds
