  1. I saw Bob Steenfott drill a small hole in the side of an Easy Planter so that it could be used as a planter and as a breeding cave for Apistos. I haven't heard whether that was successful or not. I don't watch his channel very often so I haven't seen an update. Any one else tried this?
  2. Last summer I bred cherry barbs in my 35 gallon pond from Home Depot. I chose them because I had never kept fish outdoors before and since cherry barbs are cheap, I wouldn't be out too much if it had failed. Here's how it worked for me: I started with 4 females and 4 males. I had one female jump out, but the rest stayed put and I ended up with 12 fry at the end of the season. By September the fry were between 1/4 and 1/2 inches long. I left some fry to grow up outdoors with their parents and captured some fry to raise indoors. Both methods seemed to work, but the biggest fry were from the pond. My pond was full/partial sun. The surface was almost entirely covered with lily and hyacinth. For my first time, it was a great success. I've never kept Odessa barbs, but I imagine they'd do fine. My Kyathit danios and Von Rio tetras did not spawn. I wasn't surprised by the tetras, but I thought for sure the danios would have spawned. Maybe next year!
