  1. I have learned a lot that would apply to a larger fish room too. One reason I am adding in a version of all the systems. That and I really need them for 16 tanks.
  2. Not very sexy but I finished getting the drain line rigged to the 5g bucket that holds the sump pump. Now I'm starting the run from the pump back to the sink drain.
  3. It's a tricky balance between a pure corporate forum only about the companies products, think Quickbooks, and a pure hobbyist run forum, like say a model train forum. I appreciate that @Cory is trying to find that balance. However there is always going to be confusion and these questions will keep coming up as new people join. It's just going to be an ongoing thing and confusion should be expected. The "seasoned" members should try to help clarify for the new members whenever we can.
  4. Well he was just trapped. I hap to rip up the sponge to get him out.
  5. I think it'll take some experimenting. depending on how big a water change in total gallons you are doing you could run the hose to a large bucket inside then let the water come to room temp first. That may be close enough to do a small water change without dropping the temp in the aquarium too much.
  6. I've used Seachem Equilibrium to provide minerals for my plants as my tap water is almost RO it has so little mineral content.
  7. They keep fliping around. I wonder if their stuck on the foam? Should I try to pull one out?
  8. I've had they bushy nose for 7 or 8 years with a cavebin the aquarium but they never displayed any breeding behavior. I thought they were both female in fact. Last night after cleanimg the Fluval I guess the prefilter sponge fell off. I just saw this with one pleco trapping the other inside. Are they breeding?
  9. Finished painting, installed the electrical, making the 2" drain pipes now.
  10. I remember the Baily Brothers back on their old podcast talking about in their first fish room (in San Diego mind you) their father made them turn all the heaters off at night. They thought in retrospect the fish they breed then were more hearty.
  11. Very cool. I grew up fishing in Minnesota lakes and have wanted a sunfish native MN biotope for a long time.
  12. Well it's a rough assemble but I am not entirely happy with it. I'd probably go with a manufactured shelf if I had to do it again and just live with fewer aquariums. I still might, we'll see. I still have to add the carriage bolts that will hold the real weight, paint and so forth. The unit is also tied to the wall with joist hangers.
  13. Starting to get the shelving and drain system installed.
  14. I heard that Prometheus story and that person even had permission.
  15. Tropical reef fish, 81, is the oldest ever discovered US.CNN.COM Scientists have discovered what they say is the oldest tropical reef fish recorded anywhere in the world -- an 81-year-old midnight snapper caught...
  16. The herky-jerky wiggling action is one of the things that really activates the feeding instinct. If Bolivian fry are close to as small as GBR then I think it'll probably be critical. It is actually really easy to raise up the baby brine and takes maybe 15 minutes twice a day. You don't have to buy all the expense equipment either.
  17. I think Bolivians are highly under rated. They are more hardy than GBRs and while they don't have as much surface area covered in color they are very colorful. Plus they have all the fun Cichlid behavior with few of the down sides.
  18. Yes they are more closely related to the German Blue Rams. There are videos of watched on Bolivians that use the same setup as the GBRs. I love Bolivians myself and hope to start breeding some as soon as I get my fishroom setup.
  19. I saw this. I can understand spending that kind of money on Koi but if you're going to why would you buy them from Petsmart?! Worse why would Petsmart let him spend that kind of money with them when they know it'll be a disaster? Maybe he has a case.
  20. Fishroom design Part 3, Shelf Design: Due to my room constraints I have to go with a custom wood shelf system. I got started on the cut list Sunday and hope to begin assembly over the Thanksgiving weekend. Please excuse the cartoonish speed square, I can't find my good one.
  21. Picked up my new fish rack and plumbing today. Some assembly required.
