  1. You should be able to pop the top off the sponge filter. The top is a green circle and has a compartment for the air stone below it. You cut off a half inch of tubing insert it on the bottom and attach the air stone. To clean the whole sponge filter, I take a ziploc bag and put the filter inside it and then take the ziploc bag out where I can clean it anywhere. Make sure to use dechlorinated water so your bacteria won’t die off. You can try heating the airline tubing with hot water and then attach it where you need it. Good luck!
  2. A bottle of easy green and root tabs should be good 👍
  3. The only things in the tank are pleco tubes and a small sponge filter, I do not know how it could have been hurt by these objects.
  4. Update: Unfortunately, today the fish is no longer with us. Its swimming problem had quickly turned deadly to the point where it was spiraling uncontrollably. I had to put it out of its misery and euthanize it. 😢
  5. The death happened in the morning, when I woke up all seem to do fine except for the one tetra who has a hard time swimming. An hour later I check on the tank, and one of the tetras is dead. It was not the tetra that had a hard time swimming up right. That had surprised me. I checked the ammonia, and there was 0 ppm as I took the fish out probably a few minutes after it had died. The gills area looks all red and on the side of it. Does anyone know the cause of this?
  6. After putting my new 13 green neon tetras in a 5-gallon quarantine tank, I put in the med trio. On the second day (today) I'm seeing one neon tetra separated from the group and swimming unnaturally. Its body is leaning to one side, and it is having trouble staying right sided. The parameters of the tank are 0 ppm ammonia, 0 ppm Nitrite, 7.6 ph, and <10 ppm nitrate. If anyone knows what the problem is, please help me deal with this and thank you.
  7. Thanks for the responses. I will take my future actions accordingly.
  8. I had this question for a while and finally decided to put it up here. If a fish you bought is wild caught and looks healthy, should you deworm it or treat the fish proactively with the med trio? Or deworm them after the med trio?
  9. I have noticed a small white bump on the side of my green neon tetra. The tetra is the smallest out of the school. I need some help on identifying what it exactly is and what I should do about it. Should I put it in the quarantine tank? There is also another tetra that looks like it can't keep itself straight and it always is trying to. pH: 6.4-6.8 Ammonia: 0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: <30 Temperature: About 78 Degrees Fahrenheit
  10. Is there any other way I could do to make sure there isn't any bleach left? @Daniel @KBOzzie59
  11. I don't have a chlorine test strip but if I run extra dechlorinator in the tank, will that do the job of removing any left over bleach?
  12. I just got finished with bleaching and rinsing my tools and my 5 gallon tank by following Irene's how to disinfect an aquarium with bleach video and was wondering how long should I let the tank and tools air-dry. Does anyone know how long I should?
  13. I have a 5 gallon quarantine tank, do you think they will be fine in there? @xXInkedPhoenixX
  14. While on vacation in San Francisco, I got a chance to visit the Ocean Aquarium fish store. The owner there was very nice and told us told us lots of information on how to keep maintenance low in the hobby with deep gravel substrate. We picked up a few bags there and now have to replace the black sand in my 20 gallon with the gravel we bought. I don't know if we should take the fish out or replace it with the fish in. We have corydoras, green neon tetras, a honey gourami, 2 nerite snails, and a hillstream loach. If anyone has done this before, could you help me what to do?
  15. Just made a tank for the first axolotl I found that came in the new Minecraft 1.17 update in my survival world. The tank is 4 blocks wide from the front, 5 blocks front to back, and 2 blocks tall.
  16. Did you feed them? How did it go?
  17. I don't think the otos will overstock the tank as long you do your regular water changes. What type of algae did you get? If you just got your plants, keep the ferts low and turn down the lighting time or intensity for a week or so to see if that stops that algae a little bit. Once the plants start growing, increase the lighting and fertilizer
  18. If you want it to grow low and bushy, I think trimming it will do the trick.
  19. I am using the usb nano air pump on my medium sponge filter and it is working fine. I think you could use it.
  20. They do like company but some people go for one since it is the centerpiece fish.
  21. A peaceful gourami would be pretty nice. Both honey gourami and female powdered blue gourami are peaceful. Cory made a video about the top 5 peaceful gourami's.
  22. Is gravel vacuuming where you plunge the siphon into the gravel? Is it any different than sucking up any debris laying on top of the gravel?
