  1. Thanks! I have a fridge full of different foods. Flakes, live black worms, frozen brine shrimp, pellets, bug bites... But, haven't tried any of the Hikari line yet. Thanks for the advice! It's going on the list 🙂
  2. Maybe try mail order? Aquahuna has such great reviews. I'm thinking about getting my shrimp there. https://aquahuna.com/collections/tetra/products/rummynose-tetra?variant=15719622705195
  3. My pH is 8.2. (Also using natural ways to bring it down.) I have neon and black tetras and Harlequin rasboras. I didn't think I would like any of those fish, but together with everything else in the tank, they are so great together and just different enough.
  4. Happy update!! 24 hrs after my initial post all three are perfectly fine! Thank you for your help!! Transferred to new tank; Raised heat to 80; Added salt; Turned the lights off and covered the tank with a towel. Took a peek tonight to find all of them swimming around! Fed them each a couple of blood worms and all seems right in the world tonight. It really is a great feeling to see them doing well. Their tail fins seem a little tore up now, so I figured I'd try erythromycin next. Again, thanks to everyone who commented!
  5. Thank you! I don't use buffers. All of my fish are adapting to the pH and I'm trying to bring it down in natural ways.
  6. Found that three of the six I picked up had clamped fins. Transferred them all to another H tank - salted and cycled. Have it dark and covered with a towel. (I did just take a peek and see that two appear to have perked up!!) May be wishful thinking that this will work... Each in their own breeder box for security.
  7. Thank you! Started the med trio this morning so I'm not apt to change the water. The low ammonia - which is nearly 0 - is considered to be in the "safe" parameters. The tank is cycled - but this little bump did come up yesterday. I should have changed water before I did meds. Dangit! I will head out to see if I can grab the buffer. I do have a couple of cattapa leaves in the tank. I think I read one of this per 10gal...
  8. I know I'm full of questions today! But, I picked up this Betta from a local breeder Saturday. She's been playing and seemed to be doing well, but last night I noticed clamped fins. My plan was always to wait until Monday morning to start meds so I could feed her and observe. Guess I waited too long. Amonia 0-.25 (barely showing a green color in master kit) Nitrites 0 Nitrates somewhere between 20 pH 8.2 I am feeling like it's the harder water and pH causing the issue, which there is nothing I can do about with immediacy. The water in my area is much harder than the breeder's, but I didn't realize this until after already bringing her home that this could be an issue. I'm heart broken 😢 Poor thing. Started med trio first thing this morning. Have you ever had a fish that's recovered from clamped fins before? She has no other signs of distress.
  9. I have a 75 long with a nice Eheim heater. I have the thermometer set up on the complete opposite side of the tank to monitor the temp. This is a newer tank - about 5 weeks now. The temp has maintained at what I've set the heater to. However, I have seen recommendations that two heaters for a tank of this size is ideal. Thoughts on that? Seems to be working fine as is, but would it increase the life span of the heated??
  10. Hello, Posted earlier in diseases, but thought it might make more sense if I post here instead: I am going to quarantine new fish in a planted aquarium. Some of the more delicate plants I have are water lettuce and Christmas moss, otherwise everything else is pretty hardy. Any concerns? How did your plants survive the week? Thanks!

  12. I love my panda corydoras. Never feels like there's any competition for food. Harlequin rasboras is another one that comes up often. I also have tetras. Here are a couple good videos:
  13. Hello, yes! I have frozen brine shrimp. I haven’t tried frozen bloodworms yet, but they’re on my list! I use Bug Bites, flakes, shrimp pellets, wafers... all kinds of stuff, lol. They’re quite spoiled when it comes to variety!! Just need to make sure those loaches and tetras get some too 🙂 Thank you!!
  14. This is awesome advice. Thank you! Only had the loaches a few weeks.
  15. Hello, 75 gal community tank with: Danios and 15 Bettas at top/middle, neon tetras in the middle/bottom, panda corydoras at the bottom, hillstream loaches and a snail. Any recommendations for mealtime? I have a variety of foods - a fridge full of different kinds, including Rapashy Community. (The only thing none of them seem to want to try yet is the Rapashy.) I have never seen the loaches eat and I know they need more than just the tank algae. How do I know they’re getting enough? And the poor little tetras that are so tiny and slow! 😩 What are your tips for feeding a community tank?
  16. Ok ok! I broke down and picked up 7 Danios - long fin leopards to be exact. They are beautiful and so much fun to watch. I’ve never thought they were very pretty, but they’ll be perfect with the Bettas.
  17. Hi Irene, Do you have any advice or experience with different types of Hillstream loaches hanging together? I have one spotted right now and want to add two more to my 75 gal tank, but I’m really interested in reticulated. I have read that patterns matter to fish?? but haven’t been able to find info on Hillstream loaches. Thoughts? Thank you 😊
  18. Our corydoras and neon tetras have been awesome tank mates, but what else? Anyone here have experience with a large sorority (15). We don’t love danios or harlequin rasboras, but heard they’re great. What else? Thoughts on female dalmatian mollies - maybe 3?
  19. I appreciate all of the feedback and advice! I didn’t go out and buy any yesterday afterall. I didn’t have the courage. Getting there though ... lol. Nobody has really said anything about housing with a betta sorority. I may not have posed the topic correctly and will try again. Regarding being fin nippers, some of my half moon girls do have longer flowing fins like males, so fin nipping is a concern for me.
  20. My daughter wants Dalmatian mollies so so badly. I’ve been considering it for about a month. I am finding mixed reviews on aggression with these fish. We have a beta sorority, a school of neon tetras, 6 panda Corydoras, and one Hillstream loach (for now). My daughter wants Dalmatian Mollies. I’m thinking of adding 3 females. Thoughts??
