  1. Ah! See this make perfect sense for the amano deaths. My batches of amanos have never had problems, but both of my shrimp tanks are around 72 and my house is usally 68-69. And I drip acclimate them. Thanks so much for the thorough explanation!
  2. I have val in two different setups and they both seem to do well with ferts and fertilized substrate. One of the tanks is a Walstad style tank with soil bottom and gravel top. The val in that tank are large, green, and healthy, but have no runners. (as I type this I realize that's probably because the gravel is too course and deep) The other tank is gravel with root tabs and the val have lots of runners, but dont seem as healthy and green. So yeah, ferts and root tabs!
  3. I know we have a Willamette Valley fish club which you can find on facebook. I think they meet in Eugene usually.
  4. Do you think there's much benefit to using wondershells and equilibrium? I used to, but have stopped buying wondershells because I assumed using both was overkill.
  5. As the friend who got Bort into the hobby, I'll add that we live in the same city. We have fairly soft water and I've tested for copper. I'm going to let Bort borrow my copper and phosphate test kits. I've acclimated three groups of shrimp the same way and had 0 deaths. I don't know enough about shrimp to know what would cause these quick deaths and failed molts besides stress. But the 6 cherry shrimp dying one at a time is baffling.
  6. Oh by the way, that's a 2 gallon vase I use as a hospital tank for nano fish. Got it at a goodwill for $1.
  7. One of my guppies was getting close to giving birth and I didn't have a spot for the babies. Normally I just let them breed and give birth all in the same tank, but I had just gotten rid of most of the hornwort in the main tank, so I wanted to give them a better chance of survival. I threw this together and it worked out great! She gave birth to at least 6 babies this afternoon and I don't think any got eaten. Upside-down planters with rocks holding them down 😂
  8. Aww the joy of baby gups! One of my guppies is about to give birth to my 3rd batch of guppies. Love em!
  9. Thanks! I'll set her up in one of my extra tanks right away.:)
  10. Yeah. Dang. I think I'll setup another tank for the salt treatment. Thanks so much!
  11. Hello all, I've been browsing these forums for a few weeks now and binge watching aquarium co-op videos for months, so I figured it's time to introduce myself! My name is Garrett Dare and I've recently become a fish maniac. I got my first fish about a year and a half ago, but only really got serious about fishkeeping this year. My wife and I currently have six tanks (four small and two large). Two small betta tanks, a shrimp and guppy tank, a barb tank, a large goldfish tank, and a tropical community tank. I'm looking forward to joining the community here, learning, and helping others get into the hobby! The picture below is our 75g community tank. It's only a few months old, but is thriving. (and yes, I plan to replace that sponge filter with a large co-op one!)
  12. sounds good! I probably should have done this a week ago! I have an albino bristlenose and some mystery snails in there with her and the other two golds. Should I put the black moor in a hospital tank with salt or would the others be okay with a smaller dosage of salt?
  13. Hello friends, Here's a photo of my black moor's eye today and a photo of her a few weeks ago when she bumped her eye on something (a rock that I removed). A few days after I noticed the scratch, I noticed her eye had shrunk significantly. Some research and forum reading told me the fluid sac had likely been ruptured, but she would be fine. Her eye will likely never be full sized again. However, now the eye is starting to look a bit sunken in. Should this concern me? Thanks!
