  1. I guess my corys are just rogue then, I saw a guppy fry get slurped up like a noodle.
  2. I got into fish keeping because I thought Zach Catch Em was cool but I soon found out that I was harming fish so I did it the right way. I love all the bio and chemistry behind fish keeping.
  3. Can't believe I just watched snails do their thing lol. But now I can say I know a lot more about snail reproduction.
  4. Check your ammonia and make sure it's fine also. He could have stunned himself if his acting fine now. But if he starts freaking out again I would QT him.
  5. No problem, at least you're still in the hobby. It has happens to the best of us. I crashed my one of my tanks because of not taking care of it or not paying attention to obvious signs. I don't remember which but I was really sad, I lost some Zebra Danios that I had for 2 years, and I had named them ( I could the difference between their sizes, some where fatter than the others). Some of the fish made it like one of bronze corys (that is still alive today) she's almost like 4 years old now. It really sucks but you got to learn from your mistakes and push on. I think my problem was that I wasn't helping the gas out so a big bubble of it came out and killed most of my fish. I suggest getting some Malaysian trumpet snails to make sure it doesn't happen, if that is what caused my crash.
  6. I agree with @Kirsten, no otos for at least 6 months. Unless you get really lucky and get otos that eat algae wafers, then they will most likely starve out. The corydoras could be your "clean up" (make sure you still feed them) grew for guppies. Do a pygmy type like habrous (my favorite of the pygmies) and you could do like 8 of those. Also corydoras that are bigger would chump down on the fry. So if he is breeding for some type of income it wouldn't be best to have say bronze size corys in there. The pygmies might leave them alone though. I never tried pygmies with guppies so I don't know what the outcome would be. Here is the link to Aqua Hunas Pygmy cories https://aquahuna.com/collections/catfish/products/pygmy-cory-6-pack
  7. I didn't want to waste water so I just let the rain do it for me. You can use a hose to wash it out, and I agree with @Streetwise that the sand is too much of a cap if you're going to add gravel
  8. I doubt it unless like @CT_ said you were breathing it in all day. If you do dump the tank (and if it's safe) take a lighter close to the soil sand mix and see what happens. That could prove if there is hydrogen sulfide. BUT ONLY IF IT'S SAFE.
  9. I would poke around once a week just to make sure not too much builds up. I never had a fish die because of it. If you really want to be safe @Melissa Ann you can dump the tank. I did and let the dirt sand mix sit in a bucket for a few months to let some gas out before reusing it.
  10. Hydrogen sulfide is poisonous (if you inhale a lot) and flammable so do let flame get near your tank.
  11. That's exactly what it smelled like @CT_. I know what that smells like because I've been at a small hot spring before and let me tell that thing stunk.
  12. Add fish food/ or poop so you can the bacteria something to eat on. Also I see that you have pine tree in your aquarium, if you didn't boil it the tank will get really dark. I don't know what it does to fish but I put a piece one of my spare 10 gallons and the water was super tinted. Let me know how it works out for you. I am always interested when people are pushing the boundaries on fish keeping!
  13. I had a 20 long with sand and dirt. If there was one thing I could change is that I would take out all the sand. It was not good for planting and it almost always let dirt out. The smell happened in my tank too. I would just hold in a breath take all the sand out and then add gravel. Take as much sand as you can out without disturbing the sand. I would add about 2 1/2 inches of gravel.
  14. @SpicyFin Thanks for the advice. Not to get my hopes up but I've seen one of the fry chasing the other one (the one doing the chasing has a lot more color too). So hopefully I have a male, I've been trying for almost a year now to get this strain going, I even drove for 2 1/2 hours to get some females because mine passed away. When I get my phone back (I am still under 18 so I can still get grounded) I'll show you guys some pictures of some endlers that I've been working on. I am calling them the Rainbow Flame endlers ( their not like LRB's rainbow endlers) or Violet Flame endlers. I got them from the guy I got the female guppies. Some males have the color but not the right tail I want. The dad has a tear drop tail with ridges in it a d purple hue around his chest and face the rest is orange. He also has black dots/ pattern that I really like. But none of his sons have the tail :(. Since you have some experience in strain breeding I was wondering if I should let the son with the closest color and tail breed over or would that be a bad idea? The son has the right purple and orange, and a slight point to his tail.
  15. What kind of black-ish blue discus is that? That discus is absolutely beautiful. I love Deans blue green peru's but I love discus with black and blue coloration.
  16. Whenever you start selling them let me know, I'll take them any day over my blue dragons. I've been struggling with them really hard and if 1 of 2 fry aren't a male I am going to give up on the strain because I've just spend too much money on them :(
  17. @Fish FolkTry some dark colored marbles or nice round black river rocks.
  18. What size tank is that and where do you get your black worms?
  19. @Fish Folk I bet crayfish are a problem for the eggs. Good luck breeding them!
  20. @James Black yes that is the video. Cory suggests that you stick the root tabs to the very bottom of the tank so they can't float.
  21. Have you ever waited for them to figure it out past 3 times? If you have what is the average amount of times it takes for them to figure it out and what is some promising things I should look for, when looking for good parents?
  22. I am getting into cichlids just now after like 2-3 years of fish keeping, I am getting some apistos and angelfish soon and I really want them to bite me just so I know what it feels like. None of them have the mouth the size of the EBAs but idk... It going to be fun!
  23. I've never trimmed my swords, like ever, so I can't tell you how to do it. Mine are about 2 years old and 18 inches tall, but they are Amazon Swords not what you have. I think those are melon swords or something. But for the sag, you just take a pair of scissors and go across at the height you want it at. All the cutting kinda float so you can just scoop them up with a net. There is a video on youtube called Trimming Amazon Swords How To it goes through the steps how to do it.
  24. Every plant should be fine with that light, the only that would struggle would be the swords. BTW swords can grow very large. The dwarf sag might grow taller because of the "low" light so you will almost definitely have to trim it. Other than that I think it looks great A+.
