  1. A red tiger lotus might work. They can get tall, but they’re easy to trim and after a while the become “trained” to stay small. It’s the red foreground plant in my sig.
  2. I had to think about this for a sec and then it hit me 🤣
  3. That little tank looks better than most of our tanks! It’s amazing how they’ve scaled the plants and hardscape to fit the tiny space and still give a sense of depth. The picture doesn’t really do it justice.
  4. Your current plants look pretty good for a low tech tank. I find Java ferns can be tricky, in my low tech tanks they definitely show a cycle of strong growth followed buy a die off. They are potassium hogs so you might want to add some extra if you’re not already doing that.
  5. Congratulations on switching to the AC filter. Older style sponge filters work fine, but it’s hard to convey to beginners just how much better the Aquarium Co-op model with a Ziss airstone is.
  6. I don’t really have much experience with them. I kept a trio in a little three gallon nano tank, and unfortunately lost them slowly over about a year. I’m interested to see how they do in your community tank. Will yours eat prepared food? Mine would eat frozen but strongly preferred live BBS.
  7. I’m also in the black background camp. I tried a frosted white one in my puffer tank and it shows every little bit of algae, it’s so much extra effort to keep clean.
  8. I love the shy guys idea. There’s something cool about these fish that take some effort to spot. Sparkling Gourami
  9. @Beardedbillygoat1975 gave me a heads up that there’s something new at Aquarium Co-op. I was in the area so I had to stop by and check it out. Cool new sign! One of the staff aquarists gave me a run down on the details of the new expansion. It seems they’re shooting for a march opening with the new wing opening first and then some remodeling of the current space happening after that. I got lucky and arrived just as @brandonnaturallywas putting out new fish, including a beautiful little Schoutedeni puffer. Sorry that I forgot to take more pictures, but here’s my favorite little nano tank. The algae covered filter is super cool looking.
  10. A friend back in the 90s was an expert monoboarder. It looks like a very advanced skill.
  11. I’m a 51 year old beginner alpine skier and it’s not working out too well 🤣. I keep getting hurt and the lessons alongside 12 year old are a little embarrassing! I think I’m going to stick to Nordic! I do freeride mountain biking and have no trouble flying through the air on a bike but hurling down a mountain on skis is another thing altogether! Maybe I should try snowboarding?
  12. I totally agree! My wife is team frog, but I like the tadpoles with tiny legs. 😁 super proud that I’ve come far enough along in this hobby that I’m able to raise these little creatures.
  13. They have some on Amazon for around $20. That’s not cheap for a piece of drilled acrylic but the benefit is that they attach with suction cups.
  14. Thanks 🙂. They’re both stocked with just snails because I don’t have heater or filters in them. I like the term @Streetwisecoined, “wet houseplants”.
  15. I have a couple of little cubes with aquasoil. They seem to do fine with very little or no liquid fertilization. However, it might be worth it to buy the little nano bottle of Easy Green just in case you start to see some deficiencies.
  16. A great photo of a beautiful tank 😀 I’d add a few more more Corydoras for sure and maybe some Otocinclus and Amano shrimp. Otherwise it seems like a very well balanced stocking.
  17. Very nice! Check out the current sale going on at Petco. Aqueon Rimless cubes are 50% off. I own both Aqueon, UNS and Aquatop rimless tanks and in my opinion the Aqueons very close in quality to the other brands. The only difference that I can see is UNS has those neat mitered corners.
  18. Thanks for asking, they’re doing great. About 15 of the first spawn are alive and fully transitioned into frogs. I’ll post a pic in the tadpole journal.
  19. I’m having a hard time picturing this. My gut says that the aggressive, shoaling Pea Puffers would probably attack the smaller, more solitary species. If the smaller fish do survive I doubt you’ll see them much. Another issue might be the differing temperature preferences among the fish you’ve selected.
  20. We feed frozen blood worms, spirulina frozen brine shrimp, Hikari sinking wafers and the occasional bit of flake food. Some ADF keepers suggest that you not feed blood worms because there is a possibility they’re linked to bloat. They suggest mysis shrimp as an alternative, and we plan on trying that as soon as I can find some locally. They like a relatively shallow tank because they periodically need to come up for a breath of air. We currently keep them with just Otocinclus and snails as tank mates, we previously had a Betta with them and have noticed that they are a lot more active since the Betta died.
