  1. A mystery snail in my wife’s frog tank had sucked onto the back of a frog. These African dwarf frogs are aquatic but they do need to be a gulp of air once in a while! This one was clearly not happy about being pinned under a huge mystery snail.
  2. I don’t have good luck with it either. I can successfully grow plants that are supposed to be more difficult but my attempts at Pearl Weed are less than successful. I recently bought a huge bag of it and after a month or two it looked just like your pot. The lower stems were dying and the upper growth was leggy.
  3. Maybe some plastic hardware cloth? I’m not sure how it fit it to the bucket though. Some rigid plastic with holes drilled in it might also work, but again I don’t have any bright ideas on how to attach it to the bucket.
  4. I’ve done two dry starts with MC and both times I’ve had a bit of yellowing. I think it’s normal and it should fill in with healthy leaves as it grows. I used aquasoil and didn’t need extra ferts but I think you’re on the right track with the misting of easy green. Also, blast the light on high intensity for as long as you want since you don’t have to worry about algae. 😁
  5. I don’t keep German blue rams so this is more a question than advice. I understand that they prefer soft, slightly acidic water and temps in the low to mid 80s Fahrenheit. In this case would it be better to start water changing with part RO water, or just leave things as is and monitor the fish for signs of distress?
  6. I agree, Parva is beautiful but it grows at a glacial pace even with optimal lighting. Wendetti seems to grow well in low light so you should be ok reducing light to help with the algae problems.
  7. This sounds doable to me. I think I’d cycle a small sponge filter or two prior to the trip. You can use them in the bucket and then you’ll have them when you get to the new place. I also would try and make some sort of baffle for the bucket so the water doesn’t slosh around as much.
  8. My wife is the ADF fan in the family but I’ve been helping out with the tadpoles and learning more along the way. Here’s some basics: -A somewhat shallow tank. I’m thinking nothing deeper than a 10 gallon. They’re aquatic but need to come up for air. -Ours eat mostly frozen foods. They prefer bloodworms but recently I’ve learned that is sometimes linked to bloating. We’re experimenting with mysis shrimp and spirulina brine as an alternative. We also add protein rich Hikari algae wafers and they seem to enjoy those. -They are escape artists! You’ll want to cover any gaps in the tank’s lid with plastic wrap. -Ours live with Otocinclus and snails, that seems to work great. They were very shy when they lived with a Betta, even though he was entirely unaggressive.
  9. You’re not the only one who has done this! 😁 I haven’t noticed any spoilage from a melted but sealed pack, but maybe it’s better to err on the side of safety.
  10. Mine can be boisterous, especially towards each other. When my 75 gallon was new they were the only mid level fish in the tank and they definitely picked on each other. Since then the plants have grown out and I've added other fish, including some barbs that were born in the tank. Now the Barbs aren't nippy, but they will still occasionally go nuts and chase another fish through the weeds. I currently have Green Neons, Swortails and Cherry Barbs as mid/top level fish. I’ve also had guppies without any problems. I’m not sure about Angels but I’m thinking about trying some. Maybe someone else has some input?
  11. Not all prices have moved. Cherry barbs are still $3 and still underrated. $3 for a fish that looks like this!
  12. On my last trip to Aquarium Co-op, I noticed that fish and other livestock prices seem to be coming down after pandemic highs. For instance, Neocardinia shrimp are 3.99, down from over $7 in 2020. Shoutedeni Puffers are $250, down from over $300. Others seemed lower too. On the other hand I noticed dwarf aquarium lily bulbs went up from $5.99 to $9.99. They're still a good deal, just not quite as good as a few months ago.
  13. I like a triangle style scape, and it looks like you have enough pieces to do something like this pic. Your hardscape would start high on the left and taper down to the right. The hobbit house could go on the right in the negative space. I poached this pic from a random site:
  14. Yeah, if the 10 gal is going to be their ongoing winter home then Endlers might be a better choice. You can fit a lot more in a 10 gallon.
  15. I’ve just done Guppies and had great luck. They breed like crazy in an outside pond, and there are some that look spectacular from above.
  16. Sorry that you’re still having trouble. I’m still pretty new at hatching bbs my myself so I don’t have much to add, but I’m learning a lot from the thread.
  17. Awesome 😀 I have a few Amanos that size, they’re some of my favorite aquatic creatures.
  18. Absolute beginners: Watch Girl Talks Fish and Aquarium Co-op on YouTube. Irene is the Yoda of beginning fish keeping. From filters to substrates to fish compatibility, she covers it all and lets you learn from her mistakes. Cory also does a superb job of presenting information from a beginner’s perspective, and doesn’t get into the weeds with too much science and technical jargon.
  19. In the Seattle area there’s definitely a contingent of folks who seem to think Aquarium Co-op IS the big box store. The Cory effect is strong here and in my mind it’s 100% positive. It’s entirely possible to grow a business and still remain focused on core customers.
  20. First I need to get this tank under control. I like the jungle look but this is too much! I'll definitely be removing a mass of broad leaf Java and concentrating on narrow leaf varieties. I’ll also most likely upgrade the light to get better growth from stem plants.
  21. Those are some beautiful Rams. By far the most colorful I've seen.
  22. I’d love to have some koi, but the geography of my lot would make a large pond difficult, and very expensive. Currently my dream fish include Altum Angels, Shoutedeni Puffers, and Threadfin Acara. I realized all of these dreams were inspired by Oliver Knott videos.
