  1. I bought these at last month’s GSAS meeting. I’ve been wanting some for this little no filter, unheated cube tank. So far I’m enjoying them but they’re not very active. I think the cool water might be a factor, but I’m not sure, we’ll see what happens this summer when the water warms up. I’m sure hoping for some breeding because this variant is still fairly rare.
  2. If I don’t volunteer at the next one I’ll probably plan on getting there later and staying until the end. Your haul looks pretty nice. I’m happy that I got one of the grindal worm kits. It’s a prime setup. I’m also happy about the huge bag of fluffy Java Windelov that included about 6 separate bunches.
  3. I guess we are really lucky to have such an active club.
  4. Both pic are of the one you gave me. I’ll get some pics of @Fish Folk’s for comparison. @Fish Folk, do you know where yours were originally collected?
  5. Our Seattle area aquarium club had a large auction yesterday. The amount of fish, plants and gear being auctioned was amazing. They started and 10:00am and were still going strong when I left at 2:30pm. I think they stopped at 4:00pm with many items still left to sell. I’d like to give a huge thank you for the volunteers who make this event run so smoothly! I bought some stuff, but lost out on a bunch of items. It was a good day for sellers. I brought some African Dwarf Frogs and netted over $70 for them. Not bad in my opinion!
  6. @Schuyler was kind enough to give me a trio of his Guentheri Killifish. I had envisioned adding them directly to a tank that already houses Guentheri that I received from @Fish Folk, but the new fish are clearly a different variant. They’re larger, and have serveral noticeable visual differences. @Fish Folk’s variation is smaller and has iridescent blue tips on the pectoral fins. They also have noticeably less yellow around the head and “chest” area. For now the new fish are being housed in a 3 gallon filled with a bunch of plant trimmings. The plan is to add them to my other killi breeding tank after I modify it with a divider.
  7. I floated the Killifish in a tank with another male and the colors really came out! The fish already in the tank, really wasn’t happy to see the newcomer, but the sparing behavior was spectacular.
  8. @memorywrangler, point them to some of the YouTube aquascapers like MD Fishtanks. That might give them an idea of what is possible and how much work is involved.
  9. Thanks, I think I need to move mine to a warmer area for better growth.
  10. I’d maybe consider the blackwater style. It looks good with just wood and a few plants. They wouldn’t necessarily have to have really dark water, but the style seems to lend itself to a low maintenance tank.
  11. Yup, if you’re out of town and there’s a power outage you’re in trouble because the light won’t turn itself on. There something to be said for simplicity.
  12. Ideally I’d find some regular P. scalare that look like mini Altums, but there are some other varieties like the gold pearl scale that I like too.
  13. They’re still great lights, even though I’m really curious about the co-op lights I think I’d just keep them.
  14. I’m on Vashon so more or less the same for me. I do feel lucky that there are so many shop within that one hour radius.
  15. He’s definitely about to ask for a motorcycle 😆
  16. I’m slowly making my way to all the local fish stores. This one has been around for a long time but it’s my first time visiting. The fish section is very nice and relatively small compared to the Co-op or The Wet Spot but their hardscape and equipment section is amazing. Not a lot of images because I’m shy about walking around a store with my phone taking pics for a competitors forum 😁.
  17. Every time I see those baby angels I start planning! I’m definitely going to try breeding angels soon.
  18. @Schuyler and @Odd Duck what temp do you keep your vinegar eel cultures at?
  19. @Slick_Nick, those look spectacular. I’ll have to add them to my list. I’ve been really getting into Killis lately thanks to ”first one’s free” @Fish Folk 😁.
  20. Great photography, lighting and plant choice!
  21. If your budget allows then get the 125. For the fish you’re considering it’s the best option for sure.
  22. When I was a kid I always used UGFs. They work and they're affordable, but in the 80s you weren’t cool unless you had a POWER filter 😁.
