  1. With the plants you mentioned I think you'll be ok with just about any light, and the Hygger should be great. Don't be to worried about your Water wisteria. They're usually grown out of the water at the farm and then they need some time to convert to their underwater form. Even if they're already growing in their submerged form they'll take a bit of time to get settled into your tank. The first month growth will be very slow, then the second month it'll speed up a bit and then before you know it the entire tank will be filled and you'll have more cuttings than you know what to do with.
  2. I'm wishy washy on the Aqueon glass tops. They work, but don't always fit right, they're heavy and they're a pain to clean. The advantage is you don't have to do any DIY, just head down to the Petco and pick one up. The polycarbonate sheets are are good option for DIY.
  3. Everyone I asked about these has had favorable opinions. I really need to get three or four of them, and I know I’m going to be kicking myself if I don’t.
  4. I kinda thought it was some sort of short term giveaway, but you might be right in thinking it’s attached to an item.
  5. I totally agree, and you can trim them so they stay smaller. Overall a great plant for beginners or experienced folks.
  6. I agree, leave them. My school of Chili Rasboras has gone done from 6 to 2 over a few years. The remaining fish are very healthy and don’t show any signs of stress. They also don’t take up much room so they’ll stay.
  7. I live close enough that I usually get my co-op fix from the retail store but also far enough away that I sometimes get a shipment. It’s always cool to open a box of Co-op goodness, and I appreciate the little reusable bag they sent as a freebie!
  8. All the Frogs went to auction last week. I made about $75 and 30% went to the club. I feel great that our babies went to some good new home with experienced aquarists. Raising these little guys was really fun, and I’m hopeful that we’re able to do it again.
  9. That’s a cool and unusual tank! Since it’s tall and skinny it's going to present some challenges when planting and maintaining stem plants. I'm going to suggest an all epiphyte tank with wood going from top to bottom. I pulled this pic from the net. It’s not a great image but you get the picture I hope.
  10. Welcome! I love it when Nitrites don't kill shrimp too 😁
  11. Good idea! The ornamental fish hobby doesnt get nearly as much scientific attention as aquaculture, sport fishing and conservation, but the body of knowledge in those fields often can be transferred to the ornamental hobby.
  12. Hatching live baby brine is a fun option. It’s easy and you don’t really need a dedicated hatchery to get started.
  13. Yeah, I think it can’t hurt them to go a few days without food and then bomb them with a bunch of tiny bladder snails.
  14. I’m keep Amanos in most of my tanks and I’m fairly certain that they will predate on baby Neos. I’m not sure they get them all, but it seems like at least some percentage disappear. Keep in mind that I also have small nano fish in the same tanks so that might also account for the some loss. I’d want 3-4 for a 20 gallon, you’ll like then for the algae control but you’ll love them for their antics! At feeding time they come out of nowhere to grab the food. They are truly food bandits. Get Jumbos if you can, they’re much easier to see.
  15. The little guys look very healthy. I’m sure they will start going after the snails, but you might need to cut back on their other food to give them a little incentive 😉. My GSP love his snails but he loves them less after a meal of blood worms or mysis shrimp.
  16. At this stage in my hobby if I’m running an air driven filter it’s an Aquarium Co-op coarse sponge. It’s truly a better mousetrap. When I was a kid in the 70s and 80s I only had undergravel filters because they’re economical and my parents were footing the bill. I really wanted a power filter because it was a POWER filter and what kid doesn’t want something with more power 😁.
  17. They’re pricey in the PNW too, and worth every bit of the $10 per fish. I have some that just don’t want to breed in the container I provide. Everyone else seems to have great luck but not me. I got tired of waiting around for them so I went ahead and bought some eggs!
  18. I have a two year old tank with Eco Complete substrate and it’s packed with mulm. The plants grow great and the fish seem happy.
  19. I your yard outlet possibly on a GFCI circuit? Maybe it’s tripped. That’s happened to me with my patio pond.
  20. And I just happen to have a really nice insulated shipping box 😀 It’s actually Monte Carlo. I’m one of those people who can’t seem to get Pearlweed growing properly.
  21. Shoot, I saw the free food but forgot to grab some.
  22. So true! And there is also more time doing water changes, trimming plants, cleaning glass etc. A maintenance day on my planted 75 means a good chunk of time that I need to set aside. On the other hand water parameters are easier to keep stable in the larger volume of water.
  23. 😁 Me too! It even lights up!
  24. Sure thing. I’ll take a few pics. This is a species that one won’t ever have trouble sexing. The females are smaller and are completely grey.
