20G Long Blackwater Inspired Ecosystem
OceanTruth replied to Northwest_Scapes_'s topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
Beautiful looking blackwater setup! I love how the light only filters through certain spots. It’s exactly how I would imagine a tannin rich body of water would look underwater. Well done!- 25 replies

How Much Is Too Much Hardscape?
OceanTruth replied to Mitch_ScruffyCityAquatics's topic in General Discussion
I’m no expert, but I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s not an apples to apples comparison, but I once saw an aquascaper use a single 50lbs rock in a rimless nano tank long ago. I thought he was a mad man, but he had the tank running for a long time and it actually looked beautiful. I never would have believed the tank could support that weight let alone have space for substrate, plants and some nano fish. -
They look like red root floaters that I have.

My first two planted tanks so far...
OceanTruth replied to jkt001's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
Looking really good! I’d say your first two attempts are going well. I like that massive stone you are using in the first tank. -
Cool looking little tank! That app is cool. Looks like you have a great vision for what you want. Good luck with it.

Happy Friday night friends.....
OceanTruth replied to Melissa Ann's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
Beautiful tanks. Your rams and paradise fish are beauties! -
@Betsy My water lettuce all melted as well. I thought it had a chance, but it may not like my water or something. I might try to order it again in late spring or go with another floater. I’m surprised the anubias didn’t make it. They are usually so tough. 😞 I’m glad there is another person out there who digs buce as much as I do! 🙂

Congratulations on the new breeding! I definitely think picking up some “essence of Dean” while you guys were hanging out is the #1 reason they began spawning after all this time. 😛

I really like what you did for the hardscape. It looks great! Your plants still look good after being in the dark for a while. Now that they have a Fluval light on them, I hope they explode with growth. I hope you try some stem plants again in the future and you are successful with them. I feel like with your light, sky’s the limit. I’m liking DBF. Rolls of the tongue easier. 🙂

I know it’s driftwood, but I like the mountain like vibe it gives off in the tank. Even your algae looks lush and green. I need to try those Fluval nanos in the future. It looks like you use them with great success.

Largest size of tank with only sponge filters?
OceanTruth replied to LillyBlomqvist's topic in General Discussion
I ran 2 sponge filters in a 90 gallon with 3 ranchu goldfish back in the day. Depending on how you stock a tank and the amount of plants, I honestly think you can get away with sponge filters on any sized tank. That’s just my opinion, though. -
They are just aerial roots. A lot of stem plants get them. All is well. Your plants look nice and healthy too!
-
Congrats on getting yourself a 75 gallon tank! You’ve got some good sized tanks to mess around with.
-
Looks like a great start. Can’t wait to see it start to fill in!

YAY!!! Got to get me one of those one day too.
