  1. As long as when you do see them they are happy and healthy. Just keep an eye on your parameters especially TDS PH ammonia and nitrates. Changes in these can affect their activity and eventually kill them. With so few in that tank things can change quickly and set off a chain reaction without you ever seeing a thing! They’re great hiders especially when they molt.
  2. Definitely an emerald dwarf rasbora. He should be fine with embers. I actually had the opposite happen. I had one ember tetra sneak in with my CPD’s and emerald rasboras. He stands out but he’s fine and hangs out with the other rasboras.
  3. Yeah I made a mixture of Repashy’s Spawn and Grow and Soilent Green. I dropped a chunk in mid day and then another an hour after the lights went off, just in case they were nocturnal? They just don’t seem hungry. The other fish go crazy it… I guess I’ll try some cucumbers
  4. Hey Guys, I have 6 red lizard hillstream loach and have them in quarantine. They have run through their rounds of meds, I used API General Cure and Ich X, and seem to be active an healthy. The only problem is that I have yet to see them actually eat! I have read they are biofilm eaters as well as small crustaceans. so I used my shrimp food, Ebi-Ken and SL-Aqua magic powder. I also tried blood worms and tubifex worms… any suggestions or experience would be greatly appreciated ?
  5. I was afraid to hear that, but you’re probably right…
  6. Hey guys, a friend gave me a bunch of lava rock from his front yard. He has used an herbicide in his yard but not directly on the rocks and is pretty sure he’s never used insecticides. Just to be safe how can I thoroughly decontaminate these rocks so that they can safely go into my shrimp tank?
  7. Hey guys, I just got inherited a king betta and I’m looking for the best tank to put him in. Would he be alright in a 100 gallon with 20 rainbow shiners and 20 white clouds? Its pretty heavily planted with big driftwood and rocks. Obviously, I don’t want any fish to die, but I especially love my rainbow shiners. Any help is appreciated!
  8. Hey guys, I have a river tank with a lot of hillstream loach. I thinking about my setup. any of y’all tried a river tank with power heads and pvc? Or any other setup that’s effective? How is the maintenance? I have a 75 with a circular flow. I don’t know if that’s bad or not. Just wanna hear about other people’s experiences.
  9. Oof ok now I need to find someone with a 3D printer. Thank you Streetwise!
  10. So I was given a Fluval nano light, and I only have rimmed tanks. Any one have any ideas or ever modified something to make this light fit a rimmed tank?
  11. Ok I put an airstone in there and lowered the temp a little. Hopefully that stops the bleeding.
  12. Dang. Alright. I guess I’ll look to move my shiners to a species only tank .
  13. So I don’t know how to upload a video bc it won’t let me right from my phone but here are some gifs of them. @Fish Folk @WhitecloudDynasty
  14. Yeah that’s a good idea. Surprisingly, I don’t have any on my phone. I’ll video them after work.
  15. @Fish Folk is it possible rainbow shiners are more sensitive to higher CO2 levels?
  16. Yeah I put <1 ppm because I’m sure there’s some non zero number amount of ammonia in the aquarium. Maybe they need their own tank with lower temps.
  17. Hey guys, I need some help. I have a 75 gallon aquarium. I had 15 rainbow shiners with 6 rainbow gobies, 3 yo yo loach , 2 sterbai corydoras, 1 rainbow shark(he’s about 2”)and 6 micro Taiwanese dragon gobies. In the past month or two that I’ve had my shiners they have been dying one by one. I would wake up and check on the tank and there would be one dead on the prefilter foam... there were 15 then 14 then 13 and now I’m down to 9. Water parameters are as follows. 20 ppm nitrates, 0 ppm nitrites, <1ppm ammonia, 20-30 ppm carbon dioxide, 75 degrees F. I have pretty hard water here in Montana. The TDS is about 147 ppm. I have an aquaclear 110 and two powerheads with a Venturi system set up to add air. So what could be killing my little guys??
  18. Yeah I was afraid of that. I want to drain the water so I can spray hydrogen peroxide right onto the affected area but that would mean draining about 20 gallons of the 29 gallon tank. I’m pretty sure a water change that significant would decimate my shrimp colony. I’ll keep applying with a pipette under water and maybe I’ll hold off the algae long enough to get the tank balanced. 🤷‍♂️
  19. Hey guys, I have an outbreak of Staghorn Algae in my 29g shrimp tank. It’s mostly on the driftwood and Java moss that’s on the driftwood. There’s a little on the Vallisneria. Ph is 6.8. Nitrates 20 PPM. No nitrites no ammonia. I don’t dose CO2 and there’s pretty good flow. I have an Aquaclear 70 on there for now. I dose Fluval Gro+ fertilizer once a week at 2.5 ml. I’ve tried dosing H2O2 at 1.5 ml per gallon. It hasn’t had any effect. I’ve tried Seachem excel and did not like the effect it had on the Shrimp, Val, or mosses. Would I be able to drain the tank down to spot treat with hydrogen peroxide without killing my shrimps with the peroxide or subsequent water change? Should I spot treat with the water in? Or should I continue the H2O2 fogging method?
  20. Ok sooo they could live in that temperature but it just speeds everything up? Maybe I can power the high temperature to 74
  21. Ok I’ll lower the temps or put them in their own tank.
  22. Yeah I was just wondering if they’d be ok long term in a 77 degree tank or should I put them in their own
  23. Hey guys, I have about 20 rainbow shiners in my community 75. The tank stays at about 77-78 degrees Fahrenheit. I’ve lost a few in the past week. My question is what is the max temperature for these fish. Is my temperature too high? Is this just something that happens with fish you buy online? All my other parameters are good. 6.8 ph, no nitrites, ~30ppm nitrates, no ammonia. Any help would be appreciated
  24. Alright I’m gonna stop. The Seachem rep I spoke to told me to stop too. He said I must have over dosed and Ben tho it was 2.5 ml
