  1. In May of this year, I made a couple of container ponds for my backyard. I thought I only added plants, but earlier this week I saw two goldfish!! My theory is some eggs hitched a ride on the plants I bought from my local pond shop. I’ve never owned goldfish, so I’d love some advice. Should I move them inside to a tank, or leave them outside? All input is welcome!
  2. Is this an indication of parasites? Or something else? I’ve had these guppies for a few months, and treated them for parasites when I first got them.
  3. In fishy jail for his fishy crimes (being a bully). He will be moving to my other tank soon lol.
  4. I take mine outside and spray it with the hose every now and then. Let it dry in the sun, and it comes out looking so much better. It just occurred to me you are talking about the actual tank, I thought it was about the lid 😂 I don’t recommend taking the tank outside and spraying it with the hose lol
  5. Back in March, I made a post asking if it was time for me to stop keeping fish. I had a string of fish die, and I was feeling very discouraged and guilty. I received a lot of support from the community, and I wanted to share an update. I bought a pair of male tuxedo guppies last month, and so far they have been doing well. They seem very lively and they are absolutely beautiful. I wanted to thank everyone again for their words of encouragement and support. ❤️
  6. My ten gallon has an adjustable heater, and my 5 gallon has a heater that keeps the tank right around 79°. I was going to take a water sample to my LFS today to get it professionally tested, because I don’t have a way to test the Kh/Gh myself.
  7. Thank you all for the kind words and advice. My pea puffer passed away today. I’m not sure what I’ll do now. Maybe get a different type of fish, or maybe just focus on my plants for a while. Either way, I appreciate the help.
  8. I just added the salt. Fingers crossed he’s feeling a little better in the morning. I truly appreciate the quick responses and advice.
  9. Just making sure I’m understanding you correctly, I should add the aquarium salt now? It can be mixed with the prazipro that is already in the tank?
  10. All I’ve used so far is Pazipro, and I started that 3 days ago. I’ve used my aquarium tweezers to hold food right in front of him, but he still won’t bite.
  11. Is there anything I can do to get my puffer to eat? I’ve tried snails (live and dead), bloodworms, and even some shrimp pellets and I can’t get him to eat anything. I can’t exaggerate how skinny he is.
  12. Water temp is 79°, I don’t know what the Kh and Gh are. He free feeds on snails, and I also feed him bloodworms. I have aquarium salt on hand.
  13. @Flumpweesel I would love help with my puffer. He is so emaciated, because he hasn’t eaten in days. He has zero interest in any kind of food. I began treating him for parasites earlier this week, but I still can’t get him to eat anything. water parameters: Ammonia 0ppm, Nitrites 0ppm, Nitrates 5.0ppm
  14. Real talk: how do you know when it’s time to get out of fish keeping ? I got my first betta in 2020. I thought I had done all the research (5 gallon tank, heater, gentle filter, silk plants), but he passed because I didn’t know about the nitrogen cycle. My next betta developed a bad case of fin rot that he never really healed from. I don’t think I was cleaning the tank properly. At this point, I upgraded from a 5 gallon to a 10 gallon, and started keeping live plants. I still don’t know what happened with the betta I got next. I drip acclimated him and tested the water before he went in, but he died within 12 hours. My next fish seemed to be very happy and healthy, until he developed a tumor on his side. Eventually he couldn’t swim or eat, and he passed. My most recent betta died from internal parasites. I tried to treat her with prazipro as soon as I noticed the signs, but it was too late. Currently, my pea puffer is really struggling. I still don’t know what’s wrong, but he is really lethargic and stopped eating. He is so skinny. I really love fish keeping. But I feel like I’m not very good at it, as none of my fish have lived longer than 9 months. I’ve learned something new with each fish, but it’s heartbreaking and I don’t want them to suffer because of my mistakes, ya know?
  15. Nitrites are 0ppm and Nitrates are 5.0ppm
  16. @TheSwissAquaristNo new foods. He free feeds on snails and I give him bloodworms usually once or twice a week. @Colu I haven’t noticed stringy poop. I did add the aquarium co-op liquid fertilizer to the tank. Could that have affected him? I don’t know what my nitrates/nitrites are. I’ll have to check when I get home from work. I added prazipro just in case it is something parasitic.
  17. My pea puffer is usually very energetic and lively, but the last day or two he has been very lethargic. He’s barely eating and barely swimming around. The only thing that has changed in the last few days was a routine water change. I didn’t think I did a large enough water change to throw off the cycle, and my ammonia levels are 0ppm. Does anyone have any idea what’s going on?
  18. @AndreaW Yes it’s only on one side. I really appreciate the input from you and @colo3000. I feel more confident that he isn’t suffering
  19. Look how stinkin cute! ❤️ I’ve been wanting to adopt a pea puffer for a while, and I finally did. I haven’t decided on a name yet. side note: what do you feed them? I know snails and blood worms are their primary food, but is there anything else they can have?
  20. My betta has a lump on his side that has been growing since November. I’m assuming it’s an internal tumor. He still eats and swims, but he doesn’t swim nearly as much as he use to. He mostly rests in his floating log or on the bottom of the tank. I’m worried about his comfort/quality of life. What do you all think would be best for him?
  21. Does my betta have a tumor? I noticed a small lump in November, and it’s been slowly growing. These pictures are from today. He’s still swimming and eating normally, so I guess I’m just wondering if I should be treating it or just making sure he’s comfortable. Any input is appreciated.
  22. @Colu I’m wondering if it’s a combination of bloodworms and cooler water. The cooler water slowing their metabolism, and the bloodworms having too much protein.
  23. @Colu thank you for the info. The second cory just passed. Should I do this for the remaining fish? I’m also still planning on getting my water professionally tested today.
  24. @Coluthe first was a juli, the second is a panda. My tank is usually at 80°, but it’s been about 77° the last few weeks. I feed shrimp pellets mostly, and sometimes bug bites and blood worms. I haven’t added anything to the tank recently. The only recent thing that was “special” was feeding frozen blood worms.
  25. Last week, it appeared that one of my cory catfish developed swim bladder disease. He died within 2 days of showing symptoms. That was 4 days ago, and today I noticed another cory acting the exact same way. I’ve had these corys for nearly a year. Does anyone know what is happening? I do weekly water changes and my water parameters seem fine (ammonia and nitrites 0). I’m getting the water tested at a fish store tomorrow just in case something is wrong with my test kit. My tank is heavily planted and heated. Although I have been concerned that my tank might be getting too cold at night. I’m really upset about this and I don’t know what to do. Any advice is appreciated.
