    Cory Dora issue

Hi all, Our female Cory is looking a little worse for wear. About 2 weeks ago she was really showing as pregnant. The smaller male was swimming all around her very clingy. A day or so later we noticed a small patch of white near her eye. Today, about a week later it’s looking worse. On close inspection it’s as if a small patch of outer skin is missing or damaged. The white doesn’t look like it’s on top of the skin. All other living things are fine. Our water parameters are what they have always been.... Ammonia=0, kh=2, ph=7.5, gh=4, nitrite=0, nitrate=10 (dosing ferts) it’s a heavily planted, low tech tank about 6 months old. Feeding once a day, dosing a few ml of TNC liquid carbon per day, 30ml of TNC complete fertiliser a week. We do a 60% water change once a week. We are in the UK and so cannot buy antibiotics ect off the shelf. Although it has gotten worse, she is behaving normally at the moment... please advise. thanks Joe
  3. I think starting tomorrow i will start a strict schedule of dosing ferts and liquid carbon and watch what happens. I have to learn to be patient and await results. 😊
  4. I have had the lights on in the tank for only about 6 - 7 hrs a day. But saying that, there is a fair amount of ambient light in the tank room, so I am unsure if that should be included in the time?
  5. I am currently trying to sort out some staghorn algae issues. It’s very hard to know what to do. a few days ago I stopped using liquid fertiliser thinking it could cause it. But after reading the aquarium co-op article on algae it says this can make things worse!
  6. When you say reduced lighting. Do you mean the intensity or the eight of time they are on for?
  7. Wow I bet your friend will be so pleased with those fine specimens.
  8. Nice one Ken 👍 so often just left to their own devices creatures do the best. I love our baby’s cherry shrimp. just like FishyJames said, they are so much fun to watch. Such interesting things.
  9. Yes ours do this as well. Both the false julli and the smudge tail pair. Although they do it less once they had settled in.🙂
  10. I have 2 of these in my tank. I think they are wonderful creatures 🙂
  11. Thanks that’s very kind of you. During lockdown, COVID ect...we have found it to be very relaxing and helpful whilst locked in the house 🙂
  12. Hi everyone, My name is Joe and our family have bought our first ever aquarium 3 months ago. It was purchased from our local fish store and is a Jewel Rio 180 litre. Only adjustment we have made was replacing the lower sponge cartridge with ceramic rings instead of sponge to encourage more bacteria growth. We love just watching the tank and enjoying all that’s going on in their little world. Been a bit stressed with algae but am learning to be patient and make small adjustments and wait. Only suffering from a little stag horn algae now, but not too much. we have a mix of Neon Tetra, Lemon Tetra, Betta, Otto and Corys . Also amano, cherry, bamboo and giant African shrimp. Just love the shrimp. The cherry are already breeding and we have a slow increase in their numbers. The babies are so cool. Its all live plants with a small rough gravel of 2 different sizes. Have used tropics plants and root tabs and am daily dosing TNC lite fertiliser. Looking forward to chatting with you all. I have been listening to all of Corys livestreams whilst at work and have learnt allot from them. Many thanks Cory. Hope your all keeping safe and well. take care... Joe
