  1. I do like using a sump on a larger tank. I have used them on saltwater tanks and I have one on my 93 cube tank, and if I would do another large tank, I would put one on. Depending on how you design it, you can put lots of biological filtration material in it that will help a lot, especially if you have larger fish. Joel does have several good videos on the sumps he uses, and I know of at least one on the co-op channel that was about the sump they built for the 800 gallon. Also, depending on how you lay it out, you may be able to include an area to put plant trimmings, fry grow out or any number of things.
  2. When I lived in a house that had water from a public water system, I would use the Prime when I was filling the tank back up. Get your water to correct temp, start it going into tank and add the prime.
  3. I would guess that light would b enough on a 10 gallon, I would recommend to run your light for 8 hours a a day, I am leaning that a combination of not enough light since you've only been running it for four hours a day and nutrient deficiency, test your water, see what the nitrate levels are, you want to have somewhere around 40ppm nitrate for plant growth. If its low, dose more fertilizer to bring nitrate level up.
  4. Take time to observe your fish. If you watch for even 10 minutes a day, you will notice things in their behavior then when it changes you will notice quicker and be able to pin point what's wrong.
  5. Congratulations! It's great to reproduce fish that are on the CARES list. Does your local club give extra BAP points for the CARES fish, in my club you get a few extra for them.
  6. If you want to give it a go at raising angelfish babies, try to find a proven male that you can put with your girl. Otherwise, the other fish, and probably the mama angelfish are going to get a nice caviar snack every couple weeks.
  7. What size tank and what light are you using? Could be lighting issue but also some nutrient issues going on.
  8. Ive used juveniles and adults before. and not had any issues with either.
  9. I have done as @Fish Folk said and used a small piece of Catappa leaf and/ or alder cones. I also have been putting neo shrimp out of my cull tank in with the eggs, they seem to help keep the eggs clean and not allowing fungus or anything to accumulate on the eggs.
  10. @Daniel was that emu in your yard? If so, I'm guessing it got loose from someone or a zoo?
  11. There are several good hang on back skimmers available in the hobby these days. I know Reef Octopus makes a couple, but they may be too large for a 29.
  12. Anubias coffeefolia will grow tall, and its available from the co-op. Anubias Coffeefolia | Fish Tank Plants | Live Aquarium Plants for Sale - Aquarium Co-Op
  13. I used to have a variety of snakes and lizards. At one time I had an albino Burmese python that was almost 18' long, several ball pythons, leopard geckos, a bearded dragon, and a Nile monitor, and a couple red ear sliders. My wife is deathly scared of snakes, so none in the house, but my sons keep asking her, hopefully they can get her to cave, I'd love to have a ball python or two for them.
  14. I have used hydrogen peroxide before, I didn't go by a certain ml per gallon or anything. I have used for cory eggs, I put them in a small catch cup with about two cups of water and added four drops of the hydrogen peroxide. After 24 hours I take a turkey baster and suck out half the water, replace with fresh water out of the tank, and add three more drops of hydrogen peroxide, then leave it go. If IO do see unfertilized eggs, I remove with a pipette or turkey baster. I have seen on here that @Fish Folk has used it to, so hopefully they will chime in as well.
  15. Swords, Pogostemom octopus, anubias coffeefolia, dwarf sag, all will grow taller, help with line of sight blocking
  16. I've drilled quite a few tanks, everything from 5 gallon to 125 gallons. The thicker the glass, the easier it is I have found. Make sure you have plenty of water to keep the bit cool and wash the glass dust away. I've used diamond bits from Amazon, eBay, and Jehmco. The ones from Jehmco I found last the longest, with the diamond bits, as they get used it takes longer to drill a hole, if you're only doing a couple holes, the cheap ones form eBay or Amazon will be fine. But if you are drilling a lot because you're plumbing an entire fishroom, invest in a good bit, it will save you time in the long run. Jehmco will also rent a drill press that is really handy if you are drilling a lot of tanks.
  17. @Machete two of the 3.0 on a 40 breeder? Are you growing a lot of high light plants? I am going to get one for a 40 breeder project, I saw on the co-op website it says that one would be med-high light and should be plenty for most of the plants I would grow. Do you think one would be enough? I will have co2, but not planning on any light demanding plants.
  18. I have found with corydoras, that the more that there is in a tank, the more you will see them out and about. I started out with a group of five pygmaeus and they hid all the time except when I fed them, but I recently added another 6 of them, and they are out a lot more. I do notice they run and hide when I first come up to the tank, but once I stand there for a minute or two they will be back out swimming around.
  19. What substrate are you using? Some aqua soils such as stratum and ADA Amazonia will release ammonia for a while when first used. You could also check the water you're using for water changes.
  20. I don't know the answer to your question, but you must have made the plant happy! I've grown several lace plants and have not gotten any to flower yet.
  21. I would say you have a couple choices. First, sell or rehome the fish you have then just move the tanks and supplies and set it back up when you get moved and settled. If you want to take the fish with you, it is possible to move the fish using five gallon buckets, USB or battery air pumps, doing water changes in hotel rooms if staying overnight, get to new house, set up tank and add fish. Or leave the fish with a trusted friend, get to new house, set up a tank and then when your new tank is ready, have friend ship fish to you.
  22. Krylon Fusion will adhere to plastic and is safe in the aquarium once it is dried and cured. This video by @Bentley Pascoe shows the fry system pretty good. The Most Genius DIY System for Raising Baby Fish I've Ever Seen Featuring Master Breeder Dean! - YouTube
