Took a bit, and multiple tries, but got it in 8/6! The wordle for June 17th, 2022 https://mywordle.strivemath.com/?word=oqyrzp Semi-on topic with the wordle for today, but I just had my first "real" dance from school, and honestly it was one of the best experiences of my life

Hi, at least in my opinion I'd move the big piece of hardscape to one side, preferably around 1/3rd of the tank away from the nearest left or right wall, like the above post says, as well as push the roots in a bit to make it look established. I might try tinkering with elevation with substrate if you have any to spare (just making some variation in the substrate depth can add a lot of interest, as well as trying to create a background, midground, and foreground of the tank with the tallest plants in the back, then shorter plants traveling forward. Something that I've also found helps quite a bit for me is just taking a literal step back from the tank, closing your eyes, then opening them while looking at the tank, and see where your attention naturally gravitates. If you like how your eye "moves" around the scape then you've done well, however if you don't like how it moves, then that's the time to tinker, think about where you're putting stuff, rinse, and repeat. As a bit of a side note, try to keep most the interesting parts of the scape in one area, rather than spreading it around the tank so the eye has a definite area to rest on.

The wordle for June 14th, 2022 https://mywordle.strivemath.com/?word=zffsdc I've been considering creating one post for the week that is posted every Sunday with an entire week's worth of wordles. Unless someone has strong opposition to it I'll likely begin that this Sunday, the 19th, so if you would like to say your opinion one way or the other, feel free to do that now!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your shrimp. Leaving the light on for longer than is needed should work, as well as making sure there's more nutrients in the water than the plants can consume. Algae could be really hard to get rid of, so another option could be growing biofilm, which might be easier to deal with if you want to remove the food after the shrimp babies have been dealt with and the tank has matured. Dropping in some wood, or some indian almond leaves should start growing biofilm. They may discolour your water slightly with tannins (causing it to look a bit brown/murky). I've also noticed my shrimp swarming a new plant when it's dropped in (presumably since it has biofilm/other foods for them), so if you need new plants now could also be a good time for that.

Hi, thanks for the replies! If you're able to, feel free to do it! The events ran really smooth last year thanks to you I think. So as of now we have the aquascaping contests setup by me, and the design competitions run by you?

Apologies, however I’m currently on the toad today, and haven’t been able to get the custom wordle site to load, however here’s the Wordle from the NY Times, which happens to be semi-aquarium related: https://www.nytimes.com/games/wordle/index.html

Hi, I haven't used soil as a root tab, however I've had really good luck capping it with another substrate. I personally like the Miracle Grow "Nature's Care Organic Potting Mix" to the best of my knowledge it hasn't caused any major affects on my tanks after being set up. From what I've heard ammonia generally isn't added into organic soils. I would caution that this stuff is VERY buoyant, and I imagine freezing it might make it worse. I would generally say that in a lot of cases you don't need fertilized substrate, however I've found the above product works quite well for my tanks.

Does Java moss over winter?
FlyingFishKeeper replied to Mr Gumby's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
Note to self.. Add java moss to pre-apocalypse shopping list... (Although I think I also did manage to kill it at some point I believe lol) -
Where do you purchase your Bettas?

Hi, I'm seconding the Aquahuna option, if you live in the US, I got my betta very healthy a few months ago after seeing him on the livestream. They definitely ship well (double bagged, insulated, the whole nine yards), and have great customer support.
