    Help! Sick Betta

@nabokovfan87 So my Betta seems to be responding to treatment. Swelling looks like it’s decreased a little bit. Swimming and moving a little more now but I have another problem. Water has gotten very cloudy all of a sudden. White cloudy. Some kind of bloom? Only thing that’s changed is the Maracyn and Ich-X treatment. Any clue what is going on?

    Help! Sick Betta

Thanks for the advice! Sounds like great advice. I use a sponge filter for filtration. I have it turned down actually to make things calmer but I’ll turn it up a little bit because the medication reduces oxygen I believe? I happen to have an aquarium Coop nano pump handy that I can use for an airstone. I got some Ich-X. Already started treating with Maracyn.

    Help! Sick Betta

This isn’t its tank FYI, I gave him an epson salt bath in these pictures.
  4. Betta shape has gotten weird, lethargic, hides all day. Bloated, huge stomach. Seems to have trouble breathing. Trouble swimming with its fins, seems to be struggling. Is this dropsy? Treat with Maracyn? just did a water change yesterday so water parameters probably don’t help but here they are: No3 0 No2 0 PH 6 KH 40 GH 120 ammonia 0 temp 80 its in a 10 gallon lightly planted tank.
  5. My Celestial Pearl Danio is having trouble breathing it seems. Other CPDs are fine as are other fish. I'd had it for at least 6 months. What should I treat it with? I have Fritz ParaCleanse and Fritz Maracyn. I'm not sure what's wrong. Any ideas? Water parameters: Ammonia: 0 NO2: 0 NO3: 40 PH: 6.5 KH: 0 GH: 60 In a 29 gallon with 2 Honey Gouramis, a Panda Gara, 7 Habrosus Corydoras and 3 other CPD who seem fine. They are all make I believe and this one struggling is a female I think.
  6. @CandiTo summarize everything: I think my Crypt melted because of the KH going way down and a lack of new root tabs. Everything else still seems fine and somehow my PH is constant. In addition to Root Tabs should I get Wonder Shells or Crushed Coral to bring up the KH? Second question: Should I get a phosphate pad for my hang-on back filter to reduce phosphates in my water to get a handle on the massive hair algae problem I have or will that hurt my plants because they need some phosphate (Val, Annubias, Christmas Moss, Crypt, Marimo Moss Balls and guppy grass)? Third question: What plants should I get for a different tank I have to plant in a SAND substrate? It's a 10 Gallon Pea Puffer tank. Low light.
  7. @Candior @Lizzie BlockI don't mean to be too demanding by tagging Cory as I know he's crazy busy. Would it be possible for either of you or a store associate to help me with my question about what else I may need to purchase for my next shipment? Or is this the kind of thing I should email the store about instead of posting on the forum?
  8. Thank you everyone for the feedback and suggestions. I am definitely ordering more root tabs and some wonder shells.@Cory before I place my order I thought I'd try and see if it was possible you might have a minute to weight in and let me know if there is anything else I may need. In my next order I'm also going to buy a PHOSPHATE PAD because I had the pleasure of meeting with Eric Bodrock over the weekend (Thanks to learning about him from your channel! It was amazing!), we talked about our local water and he thinks that the major culprit behind my out of control algae is probably the excess phosphate in our water. I also have a 10 gallon pea puffer tank with Anubis Nana. It's a low light (cheap LED) tank with only sand substrate. Are there any plants you'd recommend I get to plant in the sand?
  9. When I started my 29 Gallon tank at the end of the summer I got a Cryptocoryne Wendtii red. It really became one of my favorite plants, my Pygmy Corydoras love resting in it’s leaves and my Kuhli Loaches also rest near the bottom of it, hiding in the plant. I have small rounded river stones over some special plant eco complete substrate. Recently I made a few changes in my aquarium and suddenly the Crypt started melting like crazy. It’s been depressing to see how bad it has suddenly gotten compared to how vibrant and lush it used to be, Note it’s a red Wendettii but is mostly green, that’s because I don’t dose Easy Iron, just Easy Green. I had decided it wasn’t worth adding iron for just that plant, and my understanding was that the plant would be fine it would just be mainly green instead of red if it didn’t get enough iron. -Past parameters (About 3 weeks ago): Ammonia: 0 Nitrites: 0 Nitrates: 0 PH: 7 KH: 40 GH: 60 -Current parameters (Today): Ammonia: 0 Nitrites: 0 Nitrates: 0 PH: 7 KH: 0 GH: 30 The attached pictures show the progression: 1. After first planting in the end of the summer of 2020, 2. Two to three months later 3. Sometime after I added a sandbed near it and it started to melt, 4. Today after I removed all the leaves that melted off. That’s some Val grass on the right of it. I have had an algae problem for a while and I’m finally getting some Easy Carbon to add once the shipment arrives. (Half dosage so as to not kill the Val) NOW - Why is my Crypt melting? I think it’s because of the addition of some sand substrate but here are some possible culprits: -I recently dosed Fritz Paracleanse in the tank then did a 25% water change afterwards. None of the fish looked or seemed sick, I just did it as a precaution. -Fish overuse it. I have pygmy corydoras and kuhli loaches, a huge mystery snail that is always getting on it and pushing the leaves down with its weight. The Kuhli loaches may sometimes disrupt the top parts of the roots. -I haven’t added any new Easy Root Tabs in over 4 months. Now the main culprit and probably only culprit is the new sand substrate, my KH is 0, down from 40. The Ph is still 7 though. I got some Habrosus Corydoras a few weeks back and felt they would prefer some sand substrate to rummage for food in, and they do sure love it! I only added a small patch. I would have added it in the corner where the Crypt is but I didn’t want to disturb it! So I added it just by it in a small flat area that was clear of plants.. The sand I got is “CaribSea Super Naturals Moonlight Freshwater Sand” I see now that it said on the bag that this sand was a “Perfect way to detoxify metals” I’m wondering if that is what lead to the drop in the KH? Any plant experts would have any guesses or think that is definitely what happened? Will it ever recover? Should I add crushed coral or wondershell now so i don’t get a sudden PH drop?
  10. Thanks everyone, especially @Lowells Fish LabAfter reading your post I had the opportunity to buy more CBDs at my LFS but they did not look too good so I held off. I plan on adding more eventually but I'll be more selective. I'm considering doing a round of just general cure(Aquarium Co-op's Frtiz Paracleanse). I must say I'm still a little afraid it might kill all my fish, but they are all pretty healthy looking. So they're more likely to survive treatment....but if they are fine then is it worth the risk? I know he's super busy but I thought I'd tag @Coryjust in case he might weight in. I'm in the hobby entirely because of Cory and his videos. Just got my 5th order from Aquarium Co-op yesterday with my Discus Sticker. Hoping to get the Corydora one soon, I don't know what order number that one is... Also this might seem crazy but maybe not to members of this forum; I watched and liked EVERY single Aquarium Coop YouTube video. Took my over about 8 months! I feel like an expert now but I'm well aware there are millions of things I still don't know and will be learning the rest of my life.
  11. There's a lot of fixation on the bucket. I used it once for one danio that died. After that I bit the bullet and got a 5 gallon aquarium and used it to treat 2 new ones that also died after the med trio. I'm not going to treat my entire 29 gallon. The plan originally was to quarantine new fish with the med trio going forward. All the other fish in my 29 gallon are fine and have been fine. Since the fish I treated with the meds are died I am not going to treat the healthy ones and risk killing all my fish.
  12. I didn't think it was necessary to give water parameters because it was new clean water, but here are the parameters anyway: Ammonia 0 NO3 0 NO2 0 PH 7.0 KH 40 GH 30 The PH, KH and GH are pretty consistent, as I get those readings in my 29 gallon all the time too and the fish in there are fine.
  13. So I got into the hobby because of Cory and Aquarium Coop. My daughter wanted a pet so we decided on a Betta, looking for information on Betta care lead to many hours watching ALL aquarium coop videos and my own 29 gallon aquarium. I have Celestial Pearl Danios, pygmy corydoras, shrimp and 2 honey gouramis. I've had a lot of trouble finding Celestial Pearl Danios in my area, they are always sold out as soon as the stores get them. I still only have 5 because some have been dying. I noticed some won't eat, have concave stomachs and twitch a lot. I didn't want to quarantine my fish because it seemed like so much work, buying another setup...etc. But I got one and it had all the symptoms again so I got the med trio from Aquarium Coop. I put it in a 5 gallon bucket with the nano usb sponge filter. I did not put a heater in but my thermometer said it was about 78 all the time, just from room temperature. I added the med trio, half dosages since it's a 5 gallon. I cut the powders into lines to divide it up. I took out the sick Danio and put it in the bucket. The filter was cycled by the way from being in my 29 gallon for a few weeks as extra filtration. The danio died about 4 hours later. A few weeks later I bought 2 more Celestial Pearl Danios from the store. I put them in with my healthy ones. I noticed they weren't eating and they looked a little twitchy so after 2 days I got a new setup, a 5 gallon aquarium and repeated the process like I did in the bucket. They lasted about 6 hours before also dying. I've watched all of Cory's videos on the meds and fish diseases. All I can think of is maybe they were too sick to survive treatment, Another possibility is I added the meds too soon after the Ultimate water conditioner. I waited an hour. Could I be missing something? I want to buy more and quarantine them properly but I'm getting discouraged from treating any more.
  14. I am a huge Cory and Aquarium Co-op fan. After getting my daughter a Betta I started watching videos to learn how to take care of it and found Aquarium Co-op and ended up watching in full and liking nearly every single channel video. I am in the hobby because of Cory and got a 29 gallon tank. I have a huge gold mystery snail, a medium size red racer nerite snail, pygmy corys, Celestial Pearl Danios, Kuhli loaches, large Amano shrimp and full grown cherry shrimp in a 29 gallon. I got a crazy infestation of bladder snails after buying plants. I think it was the Christmas Moss Bridge, I cut back on feedings and the Danios did start to nip at the eggs. I use Easy Green. The algae was kinda out of control before and so the snails helped. There is very little algae these days but still way too many bladder snails. I worry about my fish not getting enough food plus there being too much bio load from the crazy number of snails and their poop. Also, I've been adding Tums to make sure the shrimps don't run out of calcium. I keep getting tons of the bladder snails out and donating them to my local fish store to feed to their puffers but there's always so many more. I am getting really fed up with them. I really like my Mystery and Nerite Snails. So I can't get assassin snails. I have looked at maybe getting Rosy Loaches or a YoYo Loach for a while then giving back to the store when it got too big? Are there any other options? Anything I can get that will only eat the baby bladder snails?
