  1. 7.0 is almost always good to go!
  2. thats what pops into my mind. if you can afford to lose $400 buying something cheap, well whatever. 124 gallons of water loose in your home, now thats something to be concerned about.
  3. the capsule body is of zero concern unless the looks bother you.
  4. in a nicely planted tank like that i like ember tetras for a schooling fish. they arent too hard on shrimp as a bonus.
  5. the more painful the lesson, the faster one learns it.
  6. i would start at 6-7hrs total light. especially just for anubias as they dont need tons of light. just need to find the balance between hours of light/intensity, and fertilizer.
  7. can they be saved... yes. will it be easy, probably not. good news , those nice bright green algae free leaves show the plant is ultimately healthy. id rub off what algae i can with my fingers, then give them a spray of hydrogen peroxide.
  8. plants dont need a filter, they are a filter. keep them wet, give them some light, and some fertilizer. in a bucket or tub is fine.
  9. as mentioned above, and for extra insurance id probably scrub the pieces down in hot water, just to help get it off the wood.
  10. ill second salt. just a light dose can do wonders.
  11. my opinion, but any liveable space should be able to support a 40g. there's large people that weigh that much, and you never hear about them falling through the floor!
  12. id probably opt for a small pleco. a clown or rubber lip pleco. they stay small. the matter of overstocked, well you are only overstocked if the tanks maintenance requirements exceed what you are willing to do. start with 1 group of fish, give it some time, then add another, then another et. youll figure out when its enough.
  13. they do like to be romantic at times.
  14. 3 or 4 5 gallon buckets. net out the fish etc into 1 bucket, suck out most of the water, put plants, decorations etc in 1 or 2 buckets. remove gravel and place in another bucket. suck out rest of the water, remove bad tank. put new tank in place, and start putting gravel in, then plants/deco etc, etc. down time might be a few hours, wont even lose the beneficial bacteria. get water to temp, add in fish.
  15. if the outside is smooth, its more than likely just a scratch. you know where it is, just keep an eye on it. if it grows, then its time to replace the tank.
  16. if it is a common sized tank, you can usually get glass lids that work well with most lights.
  17. this is the thing, there is more than 1 way to get the desired result, and to do so without causing harm to the fish involved.
  18. yeah, something like that. python hose is very high quality, but it is not really intended for high pressure.
  19. this one here that is the focal point of the picture is a male.
  20. with plants, i like to see at least 2". all that gunk down in the gravel is great fertilizer for the plants.
