great concept. here's some hopefully constructive criticism. looks great, works great as is, but it only takes water from the top of the tank. i myself dont care for that. now picture if you will the co-op sponge filter with the new pipe they put on them that will carry water up. make that stand pipe long enough to draw from the sponge filter all the way up, and dump into your HOB box where you have more filter floss or sponge or whatever. just my thoughts.

if your readings stay good, and you bump the amount of food up just a tiny bit to emulate what you will feed with the extra fish.... give it a few days to a week for the bacteria levels to grow, then add more fish.

I do use a template I made a while ago and have used many times. In fact, it’s such a good template it even works when the aquarium is upside down!
ya know, a person can find good old words nostalgic. nincompoop, and nimrod were good ones.

@lefty o @mynameisnobody If you look again at the picture you might notice that, like a dope, I drilled the hole near the bottom of the aquarium instead of near the top. It wasn't until I was done drilling and flipped the tank right-side-up that I was like, OMG, I'm a complete nincompoop!
find some clear tubing and elbows to go on the bulkhead fittings, and drill another hole up top, then you can have a swim through feature........... 😎

How long does it last and how often do you feed?
if you make a larger quantity than you can use in a week or so, it can also be frozen.

the big hole in the side is probably why it wont hold water idk without having a good gander at it, but it may need some kind of gasket around the bulkhead fitting.

Wow, that video sounds intriguing! Thanks for sharing your insights. It's fascinating how water's conductivity varies based on its purity. Reminds me of when I had a leak in my home, and water got into some electrical outlets.
yup, absolutely pure water will not conduct electricity. that fact will blow most peoples minds. many moons ago i was an interior communications electrician in the navy, i have some stories.

I see so much conflicting info on heater brand I am trying Cory's recommendation for no heater with the fish breeds I am planning. My house stays above 68 year round
I have a great book from the 60s that gives actual information on our aquarium breeds natural temperature and geographic information
thats how i roll, no heaters in my tanks. i have them for emergency use, but do not use them. tanks tend to stay a few degrees above room temp also with heat from filters, air pumps, lighting etc.

go for 2 smaller heaters, at least that way when 1 sticks on, it wont cook the fish as fast.

most of the time yes.

good idea.

you cant force sexual maturity on them. they get there when they get there. keep them healthy, and they will achieve sexual maturity.

Just to put a bow on this saga, after temperature acclimating in the measuring cup, I cut a test strip in half and measured the cup and the tank (just in case; it ended up being essentially a 50% water change, and these shrimp have only been with me for two weeks!). They matched perfectly, and I released them into the tank.
This morning I saw some of them munching away and am assuming the rest are doing so out of view.
My new scape is similar to but not exactly the same as the old one, so I'll need some more foreground plants, I think, but all in all, it could have gone a lot worse.
Thanks for the advice and well-wishes!
looks good. a direct swap over is usually painless as long as you get the temps close.

Yes indeed. And then came Space Invaders.
when you thought you were good, flip the little lever and make the paddles tiny. space invaders etc, all the original atari games were fun. they may not have looked very good, but they were fun.

you can probably get away with it, with 10 gallon tanks. i however would never attempt it as i just dont trust glass, and silicone when you add in a torsional stress.

could be his mood, water conditions, etc. just about anything can make them shift color a tad.

there video on youtube from may years ago where Cory explains the co-op name, and they technically are not a co-op.
-
i think the co-op sells an iron now, otherwise api leafzone is pretty much nothing but chelated iron.

It might be better to run it from your garage (if you have one) and advertise it. on craigslist or some such thing. Retail locations can be crazy expensive. then all you should need is a standard business license through your secretary of state
yup, at only 20 tanks there's not going to be a ton of turnover.

the one you have had success with, and are therefore confident in it is the right one, or best one. for me, i have been using stress coat for 27 or 28 years, so for me its best. ive dabbled with others, and they seem to work decently well, but hard to change what works. my best advice for these products is to buy in bulk. if you can, half gallon or gallon jugs are way cheaper per use vs 16ounce bottles. buy one small bottle once, then refill from the big jug as needed.
