  1. i have no idea whats in it, but likely it is carbon of some form. that in too large of dose, especially if added shortly or before the lights go out could cause issues. if you havent done so already, i would opt for a water change.
  2. i learned something new with this thread. i never knew or even considered some plants produce a toxin to limit other plants growing near them.
  3. give the wood a quick pat down with a towel, apply glue to a spot where you want a plant. quickly place plant onto drops of glue on the wood. repeat as needed. water will actually make the glue dry faster, or so ive been told.
  4. horses, dogs etc get it once in a while, but in my line of thinking, fish in an aquarium, once they are in the tank are not exposed to outside animals that they can get worms from.
  5. ill take one ? most plants will do just fine in aquarium gravel. tons of choices for lights, hopefully someone more versed in them than I will be along.
  6. the co-ops magic eraser sponges work good on light algae. they are a little fragile, so one has to be gentle with them. for harder to remove stuff i have an old blue scrubby sponge i use. dont know who made it or where it came from as ive had it for decades. when things are really stubborn, i use a razor blade in a holder. with those care needs to be taken not to cut the silicone on the edges of the tanks.
  7. i wouldnt medicate them as a maintenance. if you suspected they may have an issue, that is the time to consider medication, especially since you did quarantine them, and treat them originally.
  8. the above 2 are dead on. get some valves so that you can individually adjust the flow to each of your filter/air stones.
  9. if the water parameters are good, and the fish doesnt look distressed you are probably ok. having said that, it couldnt hurt to change 2-3 gallons, and just keep an eye on things.
  10. im right there with you into the spendy hobbies. aquariums, gns, hunting, fishing, drag racing, etc, etc.........
  11. forgot all about it.....................
  12. thats one of them aliens from the men in black movie. never seen it before.
  13. thats a fact, even a 24" deep tank gets a 6' tall person in up to their armpits.
  14. lowering the intensity of the light is a start, but you will likely have to reduce the hours some too.
  15. seems we have our own little meeting of tank hoarders anonymous here. LOL
  16. the filter you have sized for a 5gal tank is likely more than needed with just 1 betta in the tank. try it for a while, and see how well it does.
  17. built properly, it should be no problem. the key here is "mixed grain", you want straight grain in your wood, so pick through the pile for the ones where the grain isnt running all over the place.
  18. a bristlenose pleco, or a pandagarra or two . they both tend to reside on the bottom, and will nibble on the algae as a bonus.
  19. likely being next to a window is going to be your biggest challenge. direct sunlight likes to grow green stuff. i would also cut back on how long the tank light is on. 8 to 10 hours is usually plenty, without being by a window. green stuff grows with too much nutrients, and too much light. i would likely double or triple your water change size also.
