  1. Hi. I'm not sure where to ask this question. I think I'm at the right place. If I had a specific question for someone at aquarium co-op, would I ask it here? Or would I need to go to a different place? I live close to an hour away and don't really want to drive all the way there to ask. I'm trying to put together a beautiful 29 gallon community tank and want a game plan before going up there.
  2. I don't want colors to clash, and we don't want the fish to be more gorgeous than Dart.
  3. Thank you @Jollypop4321 and @RovingGinger Can guppies manage the higher temperatures with a betta? I was thinking rice fish maybe? The only thing left would be chili rasboras or CPD, but my roommate doesn't think the red or orange will go with the colors we have.
  4. I have a dumbo betta in an 8 gallon. My roommate and I want a Nano fish that isn’t better looking than our betta, and will not clash with the colors in the tank. Here is the picture of the tank. Please help. Also, because the tank has a filter that is at the bottom under water, I am not allowed to use sand. I have rough rocks, designed to have a lot of surface area for bacteria, at the bottom. I have smooth river rock as a layer on top to protect my betta’s fins. I know I can’t have corys, but is there another nano bottom dweller I could get, or only snails? Again, if I can only get mid water nano fish then That’s what I’m looking for. Thanks, -Eden
  5. This happened late last night and early this morning. I went to the store with a friend, got the fish I needed to finish off my 40 gallon breeder, and I received all the plants that I bought on the website. I put the fish in, and helped a friend with her new fish tank. She is new to the hobby, and I am teaching her how to get through the rookie mistakes. The fish were stressed from the car ride, but they all look good right now. They ate and are zooming around. I tested my water, and am watching all the fish carefully. The planter from aquarium co-op are fantastic! The plants came in looking better than I could have dreamed. it's amazing, and I will post a picture later when I have the time! Thanks guys!!
  6. Thanks to everyone who helped me get the fish for my tank and those who helped trouble shoot questions. 🙂
  7. @Nataku Thank you so much. I went to the store yesterday and the plants came too. I might need to do some arranging because I'm not sure I like where I have the planters. I might just keep one and take the other out. Otherwise the fish look amazing.
  8. That’s Amazing! I love that tank!! Thank you @Paul
  9. @Ruud No 😭 He keeps hiding and I can’t get him to stay out long enough for a picture. This is the only other picture I could get.
  10. This is my pleco Tony. Would someone help me find out if he is male or female?
  11. @Nataku This is Tony. My 1st tiger pleco I've had him for 4 months. I can’t sex him. Can you?
  12. @Nataku That was amazing advice!!! Thank you so much!! I will be taking all of that advice. I also appreciate everyone else that gave great advice!! I do have water lettuce now, and yes, The betta will be in there until January. He will go in a smaller tank that the students will help me put together. Ill teach them how to cycle it and take care of it. Then he will go home with a lucky student at the end of the year. My fourth grade winner last year got Casper the platinum crown tail. He was bright white with black eyes. It's been a way for me to keep the fish hobby alive! 😊
  13. @Daniel I totally agree with you! But.... I can't put an angel with a betta. They would not accept each other 😂🤣 I was thinking my new fancy Pleco would do that. And maybe some kuli loaches. (Probably spelled that wrong. Sorry. ) @Ken Burke I don't know if I'll be able to contain myself when I get to the store, but I'll make my list shorter on purpose. 😊 Thank you all so much. - Eden.
  14. @Daniel I've had my tank for over 6 months now and has balanced out. I have: 1 betta 2 tiger plecos 1 long fin bristlenose (I asked the works at aquarium co-op first before adding my favorite fish, the plecos, to my tank and they gave the ok. I just wanted one or two more but don't know how many is too many, but I was told one more would be fine.) 6 rummy nose 12 cardinals 6 stirbai corys 8 rasboras And 4 snails This tank had been amazing so far and I just wanted to know how many was too many. It still looks slightly empty. Does this help? I love the list that was given @James Black. Thank you! - Eden Ps. This picture is an older picture. It's now planted, has 4 caves, and is getting more plants very soon. Maybe today. I'm super excited. 🙂
  15. Hi. I'm planning on going to aquarium co-op after work today to surprise my 4th graders Monday. I have a 40 breeder classroom tank, and wanted to add to it. I asked this question on one of my other posts, but it didn't match the topic so I'm afraid that it'll get missed before I go to the store. I have a list of fish I want to add to the tank and was wondering how many would be too many to ask for. I already figured out what I can or can't add with the fish I already keep and now it's time to solidify my list. Wish list: 1 or 2 more fancy plecos 6 inches or under. Or another long fin bristlenose. I have stirbai corys x6, but wondered if I could add the albino ones or maybe pandas. If not I might just add 3 more to their group and call it good. Kuli loaches 4 more rasboras 4 more rummy nose And 4 more cardinals Thinking of a fun snail too. I had been wanting to get hatchet fish for the top, but was told I shouldn't because they jump too much. I do have a heavy duty lid so I'm up for another opinion or two. I have live bacteria to add to my tank with my new fish, and I just got new plants! I'm waiting for them to arrive!!! Help me solidify my list so I can help Robert tomorrow. He's asked to have a list ready. I was there for probably 45 minutes the last 2x before because I had so many questions. I felt really bad but it was my first big tank and didn't want to mess up. Thanks for your help. - Eden.
  16. Betta Dwarf cory (wish pandas were nano) CPD (I've never kept them, but I've been looking for fish for my 8 gallon and they're so cute!)
  17. @ADMWNDSR83 I always go for beautiful Bettas. It is by far my favorite fish for a smaller tank, but my suggestion is that you do something that you love! 🙂
  18. @ange Where did you get your molds?! I have my 40 gallon in my 4th grade classroom, and I am teaching my kids to take care of animals, and how to care for a fish tank. We made repashy today, and the kids freak out about the smell. 😂 It is the best! They screamed, "Repashy alert!" then put on every mask they had at their desk. 🤣😂 I think making repashy like that would make them enjoy it so much more! Thank you so much for the idea! -Eden
  19. I had this same question. I have an 8 gallon bowl (Bioorb) Tank, I love it, but cannot have regular aquarium substrate because of the type of filter it uses. It's fully submerged. I was thinking of a small school of nano corys, but had no idea how they would get to their food. I have the porous rock for bacteria growth underneath smooth lake/ocean rocks to keep my betta's fins safe. I just bought live plants to add to it. Would they still do well in my tank or would I need to do something else? Thanks -Eden
  20. Hi. I was planning on waiting to go, but I want to go tomorrow after a stressful week. I need some fishy time. 🤣 Here is my tentative list. I know Robert wants us to have a list before going into the store. I was thinking of getting a fancy pleco. (If I can get 2 I may get a second bristlenose and stop there.) If I can get only one I was thinking a school of kuli loaches. (I already have 6 stirbai Corys. should I get more or those or can I get albino corys? They would go great with my black background and substrate.) 4 more cardinal tetras 4 more rasboras and 3 to 6 more rummy nose. I want to get those crazy fish you mentioned, but I want to wait on the harder fish when I'm more experienced. I wish I would have talked to you all before I bought my fish. There were great ideas! I have live bacteria to add to the tank, but is this too much to add to the tank at one time? I would love some suggestions on making my list ready to go for tomorrow. Thank you! -Eden Ps. Attached is a current picture of my tank. 🙂
  21. @Nataku That WAS such great advice! Thank you! Unfortunately no. I wouldn't know how to sex the king tiger Pleco, the bristlenose is too young, and my newest Pleco is a tiny tiny little one (my second tiger Pleco.) I have 4 caves to give them plenty of their own space and the bristlenose doesn't seem to care. He just hangs out on my spider wood. Do you still think only one more is a good idea because I won't be able to sex them ever. I love them but I wouldn't ever be able to tell until I'd had them for a long time. I'm at 6 plus months with this tank. 🙂 I want to get 2 more if possible, but if I should only get one I'll always do right by my fish and wait a few years until I can get a second bigger tank. I don't have the option for another one where I'm at. 😭 Thank you guys! This has been so encouraging. I was hearing about getting into fish clubs and those things but I wouldn't even know how to find one and this has been a great experience already. Thanks so much! - Eden
  22. @Paul Do you have a better suggestion for a top water fish instead? I have a glass lid from aquarium coop and it's really nice so I'm not worried about anything getting out. I would like to hear your suggestion though. 🙂
  23. Thank you @Andy's Fish Den! That was so helpful. And yes, you're right which Plecos I have. I don't know the numbering system yet. My 4th graders love them. I have Tony and Tigger (the baby) and the kids get so excited when we feed them at lunch. They'll say, "look! Tony's out." 🤣 😂 How many is overstocking though? I don't know how many I can ask for. I dont want to overstock my tank. It's been balanced for months now, and I add bacteria when I add more fish. I just don't want to throw the balance off by adding too many because I didn't know how many fish I could have in my 40 gallon. Thanks again. So helpful!
  24. Hi. I'm Eden. I'm new to this forum, and it was recommend by those who work at Aquariumcoop because I had so many questions, but I'm not sure how to use it or how to ask questions. So here's my second attempt and I'm sure I'll learn. 😅 I added a picture of my 40 breeder before I redecorated it, but the basics of the look are the same. I just bought more plants from them! I have: 12 cardinal tetras, 6 rummy nose tetras, 2 tiger plecos, one longfinned bristlenose Pleco, one betta, 8 rasbora, 6 stirby corys, and 4 snails. I have no idea how many fish I can still add. It still looks a bit empty to me. Here are all my questions. One: I want plecos because that's my favorite. I love them! How many is too much in a 40 breeder if they are 4 to 5 inches as adults? I'm looking for at least one or two more fancy ones. Two: I'm looking for a top water fish. Maybe hatchet fish. It's my classroom tank and the kids love the crazy new things. Three: I like to mix and match things and was wondering if throwing a live bearer in the mix was too much, or maybe an African dwarf frog. I want to do right by the fish while also having an amazing tank for my classroom? Help please. Thanks - Eden
  25. I would love to have a list before coming in, but as a newer fish keeper I have so many questions. I think I was in the store for 45 minutes the last 2 times I was there. *face palm* Would it be ok to ask my questions outside the shop before going inside so people can go in, or would it be better to ask my questions here? I am new here to the forum and don't know where to go with all my questions. I'm wanting to stock my 40 gallon and give it more life. I feel like I've asked this question 100 times already and don't know the answer yet. Where would be the best place to ask my questions before getting to your store with my list. I'm new to Washington and fish keeping and need some help in order to do it right. Thanks - Eden.
