  1. I've been feeding hikari carnivore for years with no problem. But in the last month or so the next morning my water has a reddish brown color. Instead of weekly water changes I'm doing them almost daily now. I've even bought extra hang on back filters for the problem aquariums. My 75 gallon has a 5 inch oscar, 4 inch kelberi peacock bass, and a 7 inch lima shovelnose. My 40 gallon has two 3 inch oscar, two 8 inch striped rafael catfish, and a 4 inch common pleco. The 75 has a 100 gallon hob along with a 40 gallon hob. The 40 has a 55 gallon hob along with a 20 gallon hob. Hikari is the only large fish food I can get in my town. Any suggestions would be more than welcome and greatly appreciated.
  2. My lfs ,which has been around thirty plus year's, hardly ever gets real monster fish, Oscar's are usually the biggest thing they sell. But about a month ago I seen my dream fish of ten years or more and I fought the urge until last week. I'm now the keeper of a Indonesian datnoid, it amazes me how in just the week I've owned him how out going he is. He greets me more than my fahaka puffer or even my dog's. I look back twenty years ago and think about some of my other large fish and can't think of any that were super shy at the store but were so out going at home. He's currently in a 20 gallon, he's only about three inches, but has a seventy-five gallon then a 225 waiting. Luckily I've been in the hobby long enough to have the right tanks for the future growth, even though it's slow with this species, I just gotta dig my 225 out of my friends basement.
  3. Thanks for all the great suggestions. I just received 30 white clouds, I figured I'd put ten or twelve in the little guy's aquarium. Along with five black coolie loaches that I have on hold at my local fish store. Along with a sunset gourami for a center peice fish.
  4. I just ordered some white clouds from aqua huna for his aquarium but I really like the idea of the Paradise fish with the white clouds. Both in my opinion would be great especially with all the plants I also order from the co-op, just now. Like I mentioned he's getting a twenty long so fifteen white clouds, a few green corydoras, and a paradise gourami seems like a good aquarium.
  5. The short life span of guppies is the main reason why I wasn't wanting to use my cull guppies. I'll probably go with white clouds and some of my green corydoras. Any ideas on one more group of fish? Cherry barbs, maybe?
  6. My nabours have a son who was in a horrible accident when he was four, he is now ten, little guy can't do anything without assistance. He is basically bed ridden or wheelchair bound, he doesn't speak but is aware of the things around him. He has a spot in his room for a twenty gallon long aquarium and I'm buying him one and going to set it up for him and his family. I got my shipment from the Co-op the other day so the aquarium is going to get a sponge filter and usb air pump. I've still yet to figure out exactly what plants but I'm going to stick to low light plant's. After 30 years of being in the hobby I'm currently stumped on what fish to get. I was going to set it up with my cull male guppies but I think more types of fish( a couple of small groups) would be more visually stimulating for the little feller. Any ideas on active, colorful, small fish of more than one species or do y'all think just a species only tank. It'll be a twenty gallon long aquarium I just don't want it to be boring for the little man. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
