  1. I have an in ground pond on the back of the house that’s in mostly shade. Temp usually stays in the mid 70s all summer even when it’s 90s here. I put 20-30 of the mutts out yesterday, hoping this cool weekend isn’t going to kill them. (Lows in the 50s for this first weekend of June).
  2. How did you breed yours? Did you remove eggs and hatch out separate or did you leave in a brewing tank and just let however many hatch and survive?
  3. Pearl gouramis are really pretty and are peaceful
  4. My favorite is a tie between angelfish and apistos. And I have them together in my 75 planted with tetras.
  5. My goal: keep my tanks balanced and my plants thriving. Keep a semi “scaped” jungle look. Keep my community tanks thriving and pull fish out to breed to spread them around the fish room. Love dwarf cichlids, angels tetras and Corydora. Been successful with cacatoiudes, angels, and glolight tetras so far. Have had a bad run with corys but going to try and get some bronze (nice and hardy and easy to breed) soon from Aqua huna. Going to order 12 with the hopes I can breed 30-40 to put groups of 10-15 in my 75, 40b and 2 55s.
  6. Northeastern Kentucky. I put my guppies out late may (when highs are usually 78 and above and lows are low 60s). Last year though we had a week in June where the lows were in the low 50s and I had to put out a heater. Mine is a shaded in ground ~80 gallon pond. Gets 2-3 hours of late afternoon/evening sun.I’ll probably put them out in June this year. I usually pull them back inside mid September. If I could do it over I would move it about 2 feet over so I could get just a little more sun.
  7. I would suggest getting a light that you can ramp down (for slow growers) or ramp up (if you decide later on you want to add medium light plants). That way you buy one light and it’s flexible to any of the plants you want to try.
  8. So would anyone suggest in a tank with not too many plants start with like half the dose recommended once a week and as they grow in do it biweekly? Like a 15-20% water change and then dose 1 pump in my 20g. Then as it fills in add another pump after 3 days and do it like sundays and Thursday’s?
  9. Yay. I have done well with Val in a few of my tanks but have not done all that great with other background stem plants. Have not been able to get it to grow in how I like. Excited about pogo
  10. Just bought some from the coop. Got 2, 1 is going in my 40b with finnex 24/7 and the other is going in 20 tall with a stingray 2. Should I keep them in their pots for a bit until they adjust? Also got some easy green, should I be dosing 1 or 2 days a week?
  11. I have no idea. I had a pair that breed 2 times in the first year. No more after and the female started getting aggressive and fins started growing and I took the male out and now she looks like a male (see above photo) The weirdest thing since I know there can be sneaker males but it’s clearly not a male since I have raised 2 sets of babies but it def has extended fins and trailers.
  12. And lucky it was a 10g and not a big tank
  13. I must be lucky then. I have one of my younger pairs in a 10g and they have breed twice for me. The first time they had about a dozen fry but I didn’t pull them quick enough and after the female laid eggs again 3 weeks later I was only able to save one. She also for some reason ate those eggs or they were not fertile. Fast forward 1 month and she has laid again. Hoping to get more saved this time. Just want to keep my apistos going. I have 3 different generations (from two different pairs) mixed and matched into new pairs in 6 of my tanks. Love dwarf cichlids
  14. Soft spot for cacatuoides. First (and only so far) I have breed. Got two pairs and both gave me babies within a month of having them. Got several males and females to mix and match for other community tanks. Now I have 6 pairs in various community tanks but don’t pull the fry. Might do it again soon to always keep some since they don’t have the longest life span.
  15. Yeah I like the hillstream loaches. Might do a 55 with hillstream and wcmm. Anything else suggested in that? 29 I could make into a shrimp tank
  16. So I’m looking for some ideas. Moving some tanks to a smaller room in my basement I’m building hoping the dehumidifier and smaller space keep the room a little warmer than the rest of the basement. Those tanks will have heaters. That frees up the old space to have some tanks on the current electric (running new electric to the other room, uncle is master electrician so it will all be done right don’t worry). I want to maybe run a 55 and 29 unheated over there. In a 55 could I have some white clouds and a species of cories that don’t mind 68-70 for most of the year and like 62 or so during winter? What about Apistogramma borelli? if I need to I could add a small heater to keep it at 70 or so most of the time I was just trying not to.
  17. Currently have fry for apisto cacatuoides, tons of guppies (outdoor in ground pond) angelfish and glolight tetra. Would love for my otos to breed but have no idea how to.
  18. I’m going to hope there is enough micro fauna in the aquarium. They are relatively easy to breed I just did it for fun to grow my school from 18 to 40 or so in my 55 apisto tank. I can always replicate
  19. I have glolight tetra fry that is 6 weeks old. I am going on vacation and don’t have anyone to feed them. There are maybe 20 in a 10 gallon. Been feeding brine shrimp daily. I know all my other fish will be fine for the week but I’m worried about the fry tank i have plants and magnolia leaves in the tank and I plan on doing a water change before I leave and adding a bunch of infusoria/small little white critters that are in one of my other tanks. Will they be okay for the week?
  20. What’s the difference in the two? And will both help with blue green algae
  21. I have a pond in the back corner in shade pretty much all day. Ambient light is fine for plants in fact it’s waaaay more par than aquarium lights. In shade my temps right now are like 68 morning and 73 evening. Temps here are highs 80-85 and low 60-65 at night. During July with temps in mid 90s I think my pond still only got to 80. Depth is 2 ft in ground though so temps are more regulated.
  22. Depends on location. If it’s in a cool basement maybe a 100watt. If it’s upstairs a 50w would be fine.
  23. @Dwayne BrownIt’s been a pretty mild summer so far, highs have been mid to lower 80s so far with some days in the high 70s. The 10 day has fridAy as 88 but all others 76-83. Nothing like some Ohio valley humidity though, average is about 75% in summer. July and august are misery. High 80s low to mid 90s for the most part. Even September it’s mostly 80+ days. 2 years ago we opened October with 5 strait 90+ days. I’ll order some next week since it’s going to be mostly below 80
