  1. Don't have much to add, except that I'll agree filtration tends to get overblown. A well seasoned tank, especially a well seasoned planted tank, does not need as much as you think it does (in my opinion). FWIW, your tank looks great! Keep it up!
  2. You're doing good work! Agree with others about possible parasites, but so many bottom feeders just end up neglected without people realizing it. Gotta make sure they get food on the bottom that they can eat.
  3. Just came up from feeding bbs after not hatching for a while. It brings me extra enjoyment and the fish go nuts for it. Start small. I used 20oz soda bottles for a long time and it worked fine. I have the Ziss hatchery now. It's okay, but not a game changer in my opinion. Totally your call, but you can get into it with minimal investment and I think it's a good addition to the hobby. I do have 9 tanks, but it's just a matter of scale.
  4. It's a great question. I wonder if some of this stuff is in foods as well, particularly when feeding live or frozen. I never saw any sort of detritus worm or leech or anything like that until I started feeding live baby brine and frozen baby brine / bloodworms. Of course I did not start feeding those things until I got MTS and a lot more fish, so it is possible I'm just experiencing the law of probabilities.
  5. I feel like have seen stripes in other varieties before, but not in these. I would not think it was ALWAYS indicative of a hybrid. Regardless, all of my others are the iridescent blue that is typical. Where's @Bob when you need him? His videos are what got me into rainbows to start with.
  6. I've had 6 Praecox (Dwarf Neon) Rainbows for quite a while now. Ended up with all males. Have this guy that is quite a bit larger than the others and always has a pronounced horizontal stripe. I assume this is just the dominant male (as opposed to a different species or hybrid), but this is my first time keeping them and I've never seen one quite so large or with that dark stripe. Looking at picking up some females and trying to spawn, so I wanted to make sure. Thanks in advance.
  7. My next order will be the linear piston pump. Just got a busted weld repaired on my gladiator rack which means its time to set all that back up starting tomorrow, and I wan to do it right. Will be glad to have everything organized and better maintained again.
  8. I've had the same issue where I've had to tap mine on something to get it going again. I still use it for temporary stuff, but would not trust it for anything too important. Have lost a couple of batches of brine shrimp as a result. Great product when it works though!
  9. I mix bottom scratcher and community plus and feed to everybody.
  10. The Georgia Aquarium is on my bucket list. Thus far, my favorite has probably been the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, TN. They've got a great setup there.
  11. Following. Will be picking up a beef from the butcher this week!
