  1. @Robert You've made me want a 150G for that knife fish as well as a 55G fir those armored catfish. Such nice fish! If I'm ever in Washington I need to visit to see these beauts in person.
  2. For your water I'd have Neocardina shrimp. Caridna shrimp like a KH of about 0 with a GH of 4-6 so some calcium and magnesium I believe. the wonder shells would help raise your GH but not raise your PH so that's fine. To lover your PH for them I'd recommend adding almond leaves and only doing top offs for a bit so long as it doesn't produce ammonia. Amano Shrimp can live in fresh water, but require brackish water to hatch and survive. The adults need a neutral to acidic environment so 6-7 PH. In terms of hardness they should be more hardy and can acclimate to most waters kept for shrimp.
  3. I put some cholo wood in my tank and it had this for a week. My snails made short work of it with no harm to them.
  4. Yeah again pretty gnarly. I had no idea fat was a yellowish orange color. I do want to learn scented candles. I think I'd prefer not bacon scented.
  5. Honey Gourami aren't that shrimp safe, but if you give them a rock pile or some kind of shrimp nursery they should be fine. I love my honey gourami! They are pretty smart and will come greet you most times you walk up to the tank. GL on your guppies though! I want some of Cory's venetian line.
  6. @Hobbit Interesting enough I just tested my water and had a PH jump from 6.8 to at least 8.8. After retesting it's back to 6.8 to 7.0 What happened was a drop of my last ammonia test was still on the cap of the test tube and made it shoot up. So that could be what happened. I'm curious what they were using to get a ph of 12. API high range test maxes out at 8.8. This makes me think they are using a faulty ph pen. I wanted to make soap until I watched fight club. The lye scene turned me away from that whole process though.
  7. That's what im saying. I don't like lotions or any kind of soap going into my tank so I can't imagine having the same ph as lye or drain cleaner. Good to know about that. With a tank with those actual parameters would you remove the fish into a makeshift tank and start from scratch?
  8. Okay someone early on had a question that I didn't have an answer too. They said their ph was 12. How do you get a ph that alkaline other than adding way too much of something you shouldn't be adding?
  9. That's kind of what I'm thinking that this one may be a female. The fish also is pretty young so there is that.
  10. Like everyone else I'll be following this as well. I did a 20g with 1.5" soil 1" gravel. I found guppy grass and frogbit are thriving. good luck on this one!!!
  11. I'm looking to breed this honey gourami, but I'm not 100% on this ones gender. Any thoughts on? s?
