  1. Sailfin mollies usually live at temps around 70+, but vacationing in Destin, FL this week I did some collecting and found a decent number of wilds in the shallow creeks around here. Destin is around the gulf but gets a lot colder than the rest of Florida and was hit by the bug freeze we had in March. Anyone else find them any further north? I'm planning to breed these with some domestics and get some cool water tolerant mollies.
  2. Its hard to watch. Ive lost fish i was excited to breed and a whole tank once. But I can't imagine loss like this. I hope there are people he can reach out to who kept some fish from him and would be willing to donate back. Any other fish farms go in Texas freeze over?
  3. @Jack.of.all.aquariums in the algae farm tank have you done any water changes since the babies have gotten bigger? How many do you think started out in that tank vs how many raised up? Any ideas why the other tanks didn't do so well? It looks like your in ez street now with the BBS! Congrats! I'm really tempted buy a breeding group of these guys. It's just hard to get a group of them here in arkansas.
  4. @Cory I know the bee larvae get fed a type of honey to help them grow quickly but did he know what those larvae provided the fish? Do you think it's the protein or the fat content of the grubs? I keep bearded dragons and one thing I've learned is that Most types of larvae are usually really high in fat which is why they don't recommend them for dragons as they'll become overweight very quickly due to the lack of exercise. But I wonder if wax worms on a honey diet would produce a similar effect to the bee larvae in fish. Do you know how he prepared the larvae or did he just throw them in whole to the repashy?
  5. I don't have them but will be getting some soonish. They should support the tanks well and have good supports (better than the husky racks). You just need something like plywood to go over the wire supports or else they will sag. I know @Randy has a video about how he used then to set up his fishroom.
  6. Thanks! @JohnFX I just gotta have patients with little Bubba Jr. (Yes that's his name). I trimmed back plants to give him some more space and he's being as picky as he always is, waiting for bug pro instead of eating his goldfish pellets. So that's a good sign. I'm going to put in an order for maracyn and look around for a 20g just in case since it looks like I have a little time. That piece hanging off looks like the top layer of skin the scaled attach to, underneath it looks clean just a bit red.
  7. The bolivian rams can be easy and are slow growers. But whatever you pick I feel your going to have a hard time breeding them in that tank unless your pulling eggs right away. They also may not spawn if they feel the tank is too crowded for them or feel their fry are threatened. From what I've heard the tapajos are fairly territorial for that bottom space. Prime time aquatics did a video on breeding them in a 55g so I'd give it a watch. I'd say get 6 of whatever dwarf cichlid you want and wait for a pair to form then get a 10g or 20g for them to spawn in.
  8. The salt is to help irritate the slime coat so the fish produces more. This makes sure bacteria or other pathogens can't get into the wound. Plus it helps fight off whatever bacteria he might have picked up on those wounds. I have no idea how long he was in that pot but he did a lot of trashing at the bottom of the tank where a lot of potentially harmful bacteria live. I've not used melafix before and I don't have the right sized tank for him to QT in. I have a 10g but I think that would stress him out too much which would make things worse. I'll be getting more tanks plus a rack here in a few months so I'll plan for a larger tank then.
  9. Yea a learning experience for sure. The pot was for the loaches to noddle around in and had been overgrown by crypts growing out of it. That article is a big help but I've gone through it a couple times. Now I'm just needing info on if I'll kill my plants and loaches at high salinities. Any warning signs to look for in the loaches? So far everyone is fine with 1tbsp per 3 gallons.

  11. Do you think the loaches would be ok and the plants?
  12. Yesterday morning I woke up to our goldfish stuck in a plastic pot...I quickly and carefully removed him but he got pretty scraped up. It was water change day so I did that and added salt at 1 tbsp per 3 gallons. Today he is acting more like himself and eating well. My question is will this amount of salt be enough to stave off infection or should I bump it to 1 tbsp per 2 gallons? The main issues with bumping up to that level of salt is we have 3 dojo loaches, several hillstreams loaches and a ton of low light plants (crypts, swords, java ferns, val) Is 1 tbsp per 2g too high for those fish and plants? I would move him to a separate tank but I I've only got a spare 10g and I think that might stress him out more and cause other issues. I would use maracyn but the tank is 85g with a 29g sump and would cost quiet a bit and I don't have enough it might be cheaper to buy a 20g QT at that point. Thank you for the help!
  13. @Preston John WHAT. Ok that's amazing. The mix of fish is also interesting. You would think the moray would go for the other fish but it seems content. Guppies probably make offering to it. Kind of reminds me of the new Mandalorian season with the sand people and the krayt dragon. Also I love the Anubias and the scape this person is going for. I'm redoing my 180 soon and this gives me some ideas.
  14. @Cory, do you find any particular brand to be better at having all those trace elements? I've got a heavily planted low light platy/goldfish tank. Instant ocean seems to be the cheapest for me... Edit: Just learned about tagging....
