  1. It sounds to me that while the Fine Sponge Filter may potentially filter better, none-the-less when you consider the higher maintenance issues, it comes out better to go for the coarse sponge filter.
  2. How often should a fine Sponge Filter be cleaned vs. a Coarse Filter?
  3. The one concern of mine with a fine filter is it seems to me that it would draw the water much slower and thus take longer to filter. Is this incorrect?
  4. That farm appears to be about 5 1/2 hour drive from where I live. 😞 It was awesome to see the video though. 🙂
  5. I know that Cory is in favor or Coarse filters. I recently heard Jason from Prime Time Aquatics discuss in a video the differences (pros and cons) between fine and coarse filters. I see that Jason is in favor of the Fine Sponge Filters. I was wondering if any of you have tried both and can state which one you prefer and why?
  6. The truth is I've been contemplating opening an American style Aquarium store here, but right now with the pandemic still being a serious issue here it's not the right time. Also, I'm not sure if financially the type of store I'd like to open would be profitable. My understanding is that even in America it's a humble income.
  7. I live in Israel. The sponge filter that I bought does not give the ability to use an air stone so the bubbles come out in blobs instead of tiny bubbles. The design of the plastic piece is very different then the ones today. In my opinion it's best off to replace the whole thing with a modern day version of a sponge filter.
  8. Yes, I am aware of that. The problem is that I don't have the patience to wait 6+ weeks to receive an item. Thanks. 🙂
  9. I live abroad and the Pet shops nearby don't have a wide selection of things and often what they do have is of inferior quality. Thus, certain items I might only be able to get online. Example: I went to at least 3 or 4 pet shops looking for a sponge filter. None of the stores had one (or even knew what I was talking about) other than one place that had ancient sponge filters of inferior quality (see attached pictures). I, therefore, need to shop online. Although I would LOVE to make "Aquarium Co-Op" my place to shop online, they unfortunately don't ship internationally as of yet. 😞 Does anyone have any suggestions for online shopping for people that live abroad? I have an Amazon account, but some items are either expensive or not available. Examples: Cory advises us to use a sponge filter with large pores. The only one I could find on Amazon is almost twice as much as Cory sells them for (and frankly I think theirs are of inferior quality to his). To ship a small sponge filter to me will call almost $24 after shipping! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0855DSMB9/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A2TK7JJDLK8CXM&psc=1 That is why I am turning to you guys for suggestions for online shopping that ships internationally.

    DIscoloration

I thought that a Koi has to have white. Mine has no white at all. It's silver. Are there Koi that are Silver instead of White? Are there breeds between Koi and Silver angelfish?

I thought Koi were white with black and orange. Mine Angelfish is all silver with broken black stripes and now a little orange on his head and dorsal fin.

It's actually a silver angelfish. The orange color only started after I moved it to a new tank. Also, I believe (could be wrong) that the orange color on a Koi Angelfish is much darker. Is it common for the orange of a koi to only come in only after around 9 months?
  13. It would be great if someone could invent a digital sensor that monitors water parameters. Sort of like how a digital thermometer constantly monitors your water temperature. Honestly, I think it can be done. It would be nice to be able to walk up to your tank and see all parameters like the monitors in a hospital constantly shows your vitals.
  14. There actually exists a tester for ammonia that works fast. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000255R5G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here are a couple of pictures. Look at the Angelfish. Sorry, camera not the best. Also, the fish refused to pose for me. 😞

Does anyone know if any fish illnesses can cause discoloration in fish? I don't mean white or gold spots like ich or velvet. I've noticed in some of my fish since I moved them to a new tank that they seem to have an orange hue on parts of their body. I don't know if I just didn't notice it before or if there is something to be concerned about. The fish don't seem to be lethargic and they have healthy appetites at this point. Anybody aware of a discoloration issue?

    is this Dropsy?

First of all, I'm honored that you were the one that responded to me. Thank you. 🙂 I wanted to send a short video, but I discovered that I can't upload that. Tomorrow I'll try to take a better picture of it and upload it. A video I took about 4 months ago showed her to be of normal shaped. The stomach seemed to enlarge within the last month. I thought at first that she was pregnant. Recently in the past three or four days her stomach seems to have gotten larger and the spine out of normal shape. Assuming possibility of Dropsy, what should I treat her with?
  18. Daniel/Brandy - thank you both for sharing valuable info. I will keep both your comments in consideration when I go out and buy it. Thanks! 🙂
  19. Do either you or Daniel know if it will grow in fine gravel? I have a fine black gravel that is a little bigger than sand. Do I need to add root tabs to get it to grow?

    is this Dropsy?

One of my Danios stomach seems to be getting bigger and bigger. I have also noticed that the spine seems to be getting deformed and she's (I believe it's a female) having difficulty swimming. I reviewed some footage I have of my fish from about 4 or 5 months ago and there were no signs of bloating or a deformed spin back then. Does anyone know if this is a case of dropsy?
  21. Thanks for your advice. Question: Is Vallisneria the easiest to take care of of the three? I'm new to plants and only have an Anubias which of course is super easy to take care of.
  22. I have a 25 gallon high. The fish were originally in a tank that was about 15 gallons and the Angelfish started harassing the Swordtails. That behavior stopped when I moved them into the 25 gallon tank. Although I hope to get a bigger tank (my eyes are on upgrading to a 55 gallon), my Angelfish is still not fully grown (he's about midsize), so I feel right now that there is room to add one more fish (the Honey Gourami). My understanding is that gouramis need plants to hide in to make them feel safe. Do you have any suggestions what plant is best to buy? Right now I only have one Anubias plant. I'm thinking I need a plant that grows tall. My substrate is fine black gravel. Looks like black sand. I need a plant that will take root in such substrate. Also, since I am new to the hobby I want a plant that is easy to take care of. I'm thinking of Vallisneria.
  23. Thanks for taken the time out to give me a thorough answer. Just one question for you. In your opinion, is adding salt a safe alternative to the meds (negating the problem of plants in tank)?
