  1. So the other day I went to a local fish store. It's not a big box store and they have some of the best fish so I usually trust them. I sold them 2 discus and told them I wanted a male and female ram. Well I didn't look them over that well. That's my fault. My female has this spot on her nose, on top of that she has ick. My fault again she is in my 20 gallon tank with neons and pea puffer. So again my fault putting 2 new fish with ick and this spot like hole on her face. Water is about 7 ph temp is at 85 for ick currently, not much nitrates or anything. This tank has been running for about 5 years. Currently I'm running a ick x treatment and because I'm not so sure of her nose I have a dose of fritz maracyn. The ick has spread to neons but it's slowing down and I imagine it will be passed in the next 3 days. Any idea is what is going on with her nose? Is it a parasite? Bacterial? All fish are eating and acting normal. She has spawned once and she is fattening up again already. What should I do? It isn't getting any better really.
  2. I recently discovered camallanus worms in my tank. This tank has discus, cardinal tetras, Amano shrimp, and had a German blue ram. Last week I noticed my ram acting different and noticed him bloated with the worms out of his anus. I didn't have much on hand but I tried PraziPro and quickly ordered fritz expel-p. The ram ended up dying, also one of my discus seemed to have a bloated stomach. Yesterday afternoon the fritz expel-p was delivered, I treated the tank, and now 24 hrs later I have done a water change. My discus is no longer bloated, but I could tell the meds have been hard on the tank. Everyone seemed to be lethargic, I have an air stone running but I suspect the oxygen levels got low. Now that I have done the water change everyone seems back to normal and all are feeding and showing normal behavior. My questions are now: In between fritz expel-p treatments should I do PraziPro? It is a planted tank, with fluval stratum as the substrate, so its a pain to gravel vac. well. How do you think this could effect my treatment? Should I add salt? 1tbl per 5 gallons ok? I mainly have money wart and its never had a big issue with salt in the past. I would rather kill the plants and save my fish if it comes down to it. Can Camallanus worms jump to humans or other animals such as dogs? (google searches say some worms but I haven't found a defendant yes or no answer)
  3. Using a large net in one corner and having a smaller net to chase has worked best for me (as mentioned above). I had a pea puffer that I had to move out of a heavily planted 20 gal and it was awful. The whole time I'm worry about stressing out all my other fish as I try to catch the trouble maker. 🙄 How did go?
  4. No it only had one tail. Just a update, this morning when I woke up my male ram is now dead and another Tetra had died. My tank now has 2 tetras and 2 Cory's, and 5 Amano shrimp.
  5. Okay! So that just reminded me! The java moss I bought came from eBay, after I added it, I saw a brown worm swimming in the water, it was like a pin worm but brown maybe a 3/8 of a inch long, I scooped it out with my net and tossed it. I do have worm meds I just ran that through now. I added that moss 2 weeks ago.
  6. I wouldn't say a concave belly the first 2 that died almost seemed bloated if anything. I try to lower the ph but it never really moves. I have 2 med size almond leaves in the aquarium as well. Thats what the rams lay there eggs on.
  7. My water is runs through a softener and no I did not quarantine these fish. I do have things on hand for meds but I have not used them. Normal blue rams, I feed a rotation of frozen brine shrimp, frozen blood worms, Hikari micro pellets and vibra bites. I do try hard to not over feed. They get the frozen food every other day. They are feed once a day.
  8. Hello, I thank everyone for taking the time to read this and help me out. I have a 20 gal reg. tank set up with some plants (java moss carpet, Madagascar lace, scarlet temple). The tank has a large hang on back filter, with a sponge and filter water polisher pad, a sponge on the intake as well. The tank has been set up for over 5 years, the current fish were 10 neon tetras, 5 amano shrimp, 1 kuhli loach, ( there were more a few years ago, he was the last of them) 2 German blue rams (male and female) 2 cory's (again a hold over from past years. I recently stocked this with rams and tetras 3 weeks ago. The pet store I had bought from is one of the best in my area and has always sold quality fish. Three days ago I noticed 2 of the tetras almost looked bloated and swimming a bit off, almost swimming with there nose higher than there tail, the next day they had died, every day more of these tetras have died. I am currently down to 3 now. My rams had been doing great, they had corner they had claimed as home, my female spawned about 2 weeks ago, the shrimp ate her eggs, and now 2 days ago she spawned again, both parents had now been guarding the nest, today I found her dead. She never acted irregular or anything. I also found my kuhli loach dead as well. That is what really bothered me, that fish is the oldest in the tank 5 years old. I do small frequent water changes, my water parameters are as fallows Temp 82 degrees ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 5.0 ppm ph 8.2 gh 150 kh 300? all I have to test kh is a strip and it goes from 180-300 so its somewhere in there, the rest of the tests come from a master test kit. hydrometer specific gravity 1.002 I don't see any signs of ick or any off behavior from my fish, my rams seemed healthy have plenty of areas to hide. My male continues to guard the eggs. My water is well water, the drinking water is hard, but my faucet water is ran through a softener, which is what I use in the aquarium. That has been what I always have done. I'm afraid there is some weird disease killing off my fish but I'm not sure. What should I do? What is the next thing to test?
  9. I recently (about 2 weeks ago) purchased a pea puffer from a local big box store. The little guy looked pretty healthy, its eating well, seems to be active, and over all healthy. I noticed the other day however a brown spot on the stomach and now there are brown like granules on the body. I would attach a photo but its difficult to get a image that close to see it. You can imagine Ick but brown. On the stomach its just a brown dot not like a granuel. Any idea's what this could be? I do have meds for ick and another for parasites, but before I got dumping stuff in I wanna make sure I'm treating it right. My ph is 8.5 nitrate is low or none, the tank has been established for about a year, so well cycled. Temp is 74. Other fish in the tank are kuhli loaches, Cory's, snails, and Amano shrimp.

    Goldfish with ich?

Here is Goldie with those spots
  12. ammonia-0 nitrite-0 nitrate-0 ph- 7.8 water is really hard temp. 72 I have a fantail Goldfish that looks like it has ich. it has white spots on its fins, maybe 7 or 8 through out the fish. All the spots are on the fins, none on the body. The fish acts normal eats, nothing odd with behavior. Just has those dots, they have been there for 3 days, no other fish in the aquarium has them. Is this ich? It doesn't quite seem like it totally? any ideas and how I would go about treating it?
