    What is this?

I got home from work and saw a large white spot just below the dorsal of one of my corys. I’m still relative new hadn’t had to deal with any diseases in my tank. He is acting normal, eating swimming like he normally does and I don’t see it on any other fish. I have no quarantine tank so he has to stay in with the rest of them I’m hoping it isn’t ich. 40 gallon heavy planted tank with about 40 animals including shrimp and snails (I know it’s a little over stocked) I do a 10 to 20 percent water change about once a week temp is 78 ammonia and NO2 are 0 NO3 is 80 but trending down ph is 6.4 idk how hard my water is but I know my city water is rock solid and I use prime when I do water changes. TIA for any help
  2. So I got home from just now and my filter wasn’t running, worse case scenario it was out of service for 13 hours. Tank is a 35 gallon moderately planted, tank with 5 mollies, 6 tetras 8 corys, 4 snails and about 5 molly fry the tank also has a large airstone in it. All the fish look fine right now. I got a spare filter running now (with fresh medium unfortunately) and I dosed the tank with prime and stabilize. How devastating is this going to be for my tank, anyone have any other suggestions on what I should do to minimize the impact? TIA
  3. So came home from work this morning and found 2 fry in my tank. I’m assuming they are mollies since they are the only live breeders I have and I have had them for about a month. I’m gonna let nature take its course, if they survive great, if not it’s the circle of life… My question is how many should I assume have been eaten since I can only find 2… how many babies is the average birth for a molly?
  4. I wish I would have done more research and gone slower instead of rushing into it. My tank is fine right now, but there are so many things that could be better.
  5. Do you have anything else in the tank or just the snails?
  6. Anyone else get super nervous after a water change or is it just me? After I’m done with one I’m sitting for the next few days thinking “did I crash my cycle, did I add my water conditioner wrong, am I going to wake up to a dead tank tomorrow, etc?” Is this just new hobby jitters that I will get over or does this still happen to the veteran fish keepers too?
  7. I find myself having the same problem to an extent, for me it’s a lack of patience and concern for the wellbeing of of the fish. I think that is because I am new to the hobby (first tank is about a month old). For example I’m fighting an ammonia spike right now and I feel it’s getting better and I know it takes time to come back down to where it needs to be. But at the same time I’m sitting there watching my tank worrying about the fish and wondering what else I can do to fix it now.
  8. Thanks everyone for the advice I’m going to let him be for a while and see what happens
  9. So I’m new to the fish keeping hobby, so excuse me if this is a dumb question. I picked up a new golden Inca snail today from a shop that I trust, when I got home I placed it in my tank like I’ve done all my other stock. Tonight I noticed it hadn’t moved from where it has been sitting all day. When I took a closer look at it I saw a hard dark brown “thing” covering the opening that reminds me of a thin finger nail. My question is did I get a dead snail or is this normal… or should I try to remove the “thing”?
