  1. Do you know if the sodium hyper chloride level really matters? I saw on Seachem’s website they said not splash less and 8.25% but I’ve not been able to find over 7.25%
  2. Has anyone used grape wood before? Does the sulfur smell go away and is it dangerous for my fish? I recently purchased two large pieces of sand blasted grapevine/wood off of Etsy. The seller said all their wood was aquarium safe, so I did my normal soak routine. I put them in a bucked and covered with water and a handful of pond snails from my 55g. The past several days everything has been fine. The pieces turned the water cola colored but I just continuously swapped the water and let the snails eat the white fuzz. But this morning the water smelled off and when I took the pieces out they smelled awful. I’ve never had this problem with spider or mopani wood. Normally, I’d keep going until the water starts to clear up and then float them in the 55g until they sink completely, then set up the new tank. But I don’t want to release anything into my tanks.
  3. @Fish Folk I like your pothos! That is just behind the sponge/filter? I’ve always been afraid the roots will get into the motor. What kind of rock is that? I wanted a large white “hiding” stone, but I can only find live reef rock near me.
  4. @Fishmonger_X I am particular to the OB Peacocks and adult Yellow Labs—once they have black. Do you think one peacock would ok by himself? @Nataku I’m not sure which kind of cat-fish. I was watching a video and we saw this giant derpy catfish swimming upside down, and googled that sentence. The synodontis eupterus is crazy looking! For you other two catfish recommendations, any concern the a peacock will eat them? Or the will breed? Not sure I really want babies at this stage in my hobby 😄
  5. Hello! Rather than starting a new thread I thought I’d pick y’alls’ brains. I have a 55g that I had a vision of an ocean feel, with seaweed looking Apongetons and a single peacock cichlid. Everything I’ve seen talks about getting the right balance of Africans and overstocking, but what about understocking? 1) Is there any reason I shouldn't have one African cichlid and like an upside down catfish? 2) What would you suggest for my tank—In pic? (ignore the spiderwood I am letting it soak for a 10g) Some background... I am very new to the hobby, I have bettas, platties, and some kuhli loaches—who are a lot of fun—in 10g, 5g, and 3g tanks. But, my mom had 3 fancy goldfish and one super personable Oscar, who l adored, the whole time I was growing up. These fish lived for almost two decades and moved with us across three states. I’d love to have a really personable cichlid again that I can raise in the 55g. I’ve hesitated to get an Oscar as they seem to need a 75g and I’d like something that could happily live 15+ years in the 55g.
  6. Thanks you for sharing! I am only going with low light beginner plans so maybe the tetra will be enough. I ordered a Tetra and one of the Stingrays to test. The Nicrew was listed at .8” while the Stingray is .75” and looks like the thicker sides come off?
  7. Yes! It seemed the sturdiest and I thing it frames the tanks well. I just set up one of the 10 gallons as a quarantine tank, so we shall see ☺️
  8. This is amazing! Have you ever tried things made of polystone? I wanted to do a lost-world / sunken temple scape with some Egyptian statuettes I found but was unsure. So much inspiration, so few tanks ☺️
  9. I saw those on amazon, but most of the review pictures were not on planted tanks. I hadn’t seen them and wanted to make sure I wouldn’t electrocute or burn my fish. 😅 I have two of the IKEA Havsta (https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/havsta-shelving-unit-with-base-dark-brown-70391038/) they are solid pine and attached to my wall so I thought it would be safest. I’ve heard hardwoods are best, but it has done fine with the 6 gallon so far.
  10. That is what I had wanted to buy but my shelf is exactly 13” high.
  11. I am so inspired! Thank you for the detailed share! Could this work in areas with four seasons? With maybe a more insulated pot? I rent in an apartment complex but have always wanted a “pond”.
  12. My sister was so upset that I bought two ten gallons, I feel like showing her this thread! 19gal / 6.33avg / 3 👸🏽Newbie Crown 👸🏽 1x3gal 1x6gal 1x10gal quarantine
  13. Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experience with lighting that can go in your tank? I am looking to set up my first 10gal planted tanks (yes plural, go medium or go home?). Really the only place for them, that my dog won’t slide into, are my bookcases with limited height space. I was planning to buy the 20” stingray suggested by Aquarium Coop, but am not sure they will fit under the shelf. Then I saw an ad for an LED light you can suction cup on the underside of a glass lid. Could this work? I am planning to stick with easy plants and beginner fish. I really like the Windelov Java fern and Banana plants. I have had good luck with Anubias and water sprite with my betta, so this gives you an idea of my experience/skill level. Thank you in advance!
