    High pH

I actually have soft waster which makes all this even weirder. Ive been using a mix of distilled and seachem Neutralizer. Even then the lowest PH ive been able to get is a 7.6 and it's back up closer to 8 in the morning. Im doing 20% water changes as of now daily with distilled so we will see where it lands.

    High pH

I have a sponge filter in there with the air pump pretty low I didn't think it would aerate it as much. I looked for fish that would enjoy a more neutral water since that is what I thought I had but now with this increase ill look at different fish if I can't get this figured out.
  4. I am having a hard time lowering my pH. We have well water which sits pretty close to a pH of 7 but has a pretty high KH. In my tank I have fluval stratum, driftwood, plants, rocks and catappa leaves. I have used API lower pH and ill get it down closer to neutral but then the next day it will be back to a pH of 8. Am i doing something wrong or is my tank still cycling?
  5. Yes that is correct on the tank size. My betta is not here yet and ive read to introduce them last so yes i was trying to get everyone else in first before introducing my betta. I just want to make sure i dont overcrowd the tank.
  6. I should have expanded on the tank set up. Water temp is set at 79F and it is planted with java fern, christmas moss, banana plant, moss balls, octopus plant and another wide leaf plant that starts with a T (i cant remember the name). I have fluval stratum for the base along with rocks and drift wood.
  7. Alright everyone I would like to hear everyones suggestions on if I should add the following and if so which ones and how many? I have a 14g cube tank with a male dumbo halfmoon betta as my main focus. I am considering the following in order of preference: - Tetras (specifically rummy nose) - hillside loach - otos - kuhli loach - corys
  8. Hello from Ohio! I am newish to the hobby. I've kept bettas and some goldfish in the past as a kid up through my early 20s but not "properly". I use to love going to aquariums/aquatic stores to look at all the pretty fish. However, one day it was like a switch was flipped and being surrounded by the blue tanks would make me dizzy and unsteady. I distinctly remember being at Cabela's and the elevator opening to their fish tank and just feeling the blood drain from my face and an overwhelming sense of panic. Fast forward 10 years later and I'm easing back into it. I have a planted 14 gallon cube aquarium currently cycling. I have a male dumbo halfmoon betta, Florence, that should be here in about a week, and I will also be adding 8-10 rummy nose tetras. I would like to add some bottom dwellers but not sure if I have enough space for kuhli loaches or a pleco? I am so excited to be here!
