  1. Okay, two more weeks before reintroducing them! Thanks. Man I will never not use a QT tank again. Treating my planted 55 for ich has been a nightmare. Took weeks to beat this thing. Everything gets the trio and or salt.in the QT for a minimum month now!
  2. I guess I'm going to error on the side of caution. I'll wait until all are free of signs and then probably give it another week after that! When I'm done treating I want to keep my QT tank running so it is cycled and ready to go if I get new fish or have another problem. I don't want to crash the cycle by bleaching everything. Would I be safe to dose heavy salt on an empty tank and leave it fishless for a few weeks? I'm assuming parasites should die without hosts and the salt should take care of it as well.
  3. So I just finished beating a bad case of Ich. I ended up using a QT tank with salt and fritz ich treatment. My question is when do you guys reintroduce fish back into a display tank? I have 4 fish in QT, 3 of the 4 are totally free of Ich and one still has a couple spots. Do you wait till everyone is healthy and put them all in at once or will you pull healthy ones out of QT. Also I'm nervous on how to reintroduce them. Do you just net them into a specimen container and dump them in? I guess I'm so worried about Ich after how hard this was to beat I want to take every step to keep it from coming back. Thanks Fellow Nerms!
  4. So I finally beat the ich with no casualties. I netted out the worst fish and put them into QT with salt for 5 days then an Fritz Ich treatment. Thanks for your help.
  5. I thought salt will kill plants even in smaller amounts
  6. Cory said said he doesn't agree with rasing temps for treating Ich . But I agree it seems like Ich. I ruled out stress Ich because pretty much every species has had it and all of my parameters are normal. I think it's getting better so I will continue to treat Ich.

    Ich help

Hey guy I'm really frustrated and looking for help. Stocking and Parameters: 55 Gallon 5 Giant Danios 5 Serpe Tetras 2 Long Finned Danios 5 Platys 5 Buenos Aris Tetra 2 Black Skirt Tetra 1 White Skirt Tetra Snails and African Dwarf Frog Albino Pleco N03 - 0 (I assume its zero Nitates because I've been doing 30% water changes for a week daily with Ich treatment. Also I stopped dosing Easy Green) N02 - 0 GH - 300 KH - 180 PH - 6.8 / 7.0 CL2 - 0 Ammonia - 0 Temperature - 74 The tank has been established for a long time (years) but recently did full drain to install new Universal Rock background and add some substrate. Running a Hang on back with prefilter sponge, have an Aquarium Co-Op sponge filter and air pump on the way. Food - Frozen Krill, Freeze Dried Blood Worms, Xtreme Krill Flakes, Hikaro Micro Pellets So here's the story - I stupidly bought some Platys and Serpe Tetras and added them without a quarantine (I know better now). So I have developed what I thought was Ich. I treated Ich with Ich x until I thought it was gone for 4 days. After two days it came back. Treated again and now I'm on day 6 of treatment and it's not going away. It's not getting substantially worse but not getting better. I followed all directions for treatment. It looks like Ich, I haven't seen any protruding spots or spots on the eyes. Obviously, my tank is planted and has snails which rule out Aquarium salt. I don't have a QT tank but I'm going to Petco to pick up a 10 Gallon right now. I have all the trio on hand as well as Aquarium Salt. My question is this...... First, is this Ich or Epistylis? Did I screw the treatment up by stopping early? Should I keep treating Ich x for a few more days? Should I attempt to catch the infected fish and move them to a QT tank dose with Salt and put them on a no-feed diet? Is it possible this is stress Ich? I don't see what the stresses would be, the Giant Danios and pretty active but no one is getting fin nipped. I'm sure I missed some information here so please ask any questions you want. I'm really at a loss here. I pride myself on being an informed fishkeeper and I'm trying my best to treat this but I'm really at a loss for my next steps. As I said my next plan is to purchase a QT tank and dose it with salt. I will NEVER EVER not QT new fish, that's for dang sure! Thanks, NERMS!
  8. Thanks! There's so much great information on thus forum. I'm just pouring through all the information! Just happy I found a great supportive and informative resource. Facebook is full of some rude people and a lot of misinformation.
  9. Well I guess nightmare is a relative term. They are hardy and can tolerate wide perams. They require a big tank a large school and don't get along with many other tank mates. Having said that I kept them with Buenos Areis Tetras, Giant Danios, and pictus cat fish. It was a beautiful tank that was really active. Just hard to keep anything slow moving or small with them. They have small mouths are are hungry! I think they're beautiful though. I hope someone on here wants them before I rehome to a LFS.
  10. Hey Fellow Nerms! I'm a relatively new fish keeper, been in the hobby for a few months. Started with a 10 gallon that was gifted to me and now I have a 55, 65, 20 long. Initially I started fish keeping for my kids and now I'm fully addicted. I'm so happy I found this community and the aquarium co-op. Cory's mentality, videos, and products are awesome. It's not often you find a company that you actually care about and actually cares about their customers. I can't wait to meet and interact with the community here and look forward to exchanging information with everyone! Here is my current stock: 55 Gallon: Serpe Tetras, Black Skirt Tetras, Giant danios, Long Finn blue cloud Danios, Platys, snails, Frogs, plecos, plants 20 Gallon: Guppies and snails, plants 65 Gallon: Pictus Catfish, Bala Sharks, Pleco. (Looking to rehome the bala Sharks and about a footlong pleco if anyone wants them for free! They were gifted to me with tanks and are growing too big for the 65)
