  1. Dont beat yourself up over it cause from what I read you did exactly what you should have. When things like thos happen all you can do is test test test and if the tests show everything is fine than it leaves you confused and desperate. And as far as the heater goes if the heater took a crap than the water temp would have dropped gradually so the likelihood of that being the problem is slim to none. Ive heard lots of storys of peoples tanks just resetting itself out of nowhere and if that was the case how were you to know. I think you did the samething most of us would do. On the bright side if there were any big changes you've been wanting to make well nows the time. Again im sorry this happened.
  2. So the new fish came in sick? What caused the Nitrites to sore? I guess I missed what actually caused the spike or did the tank just reset it self? I am sorry this happened to you! I would be devastated.
  3. theres actually a large variety of freshwater puffers. I think Spotted puffers only get to 5 to 6" which is fairly small. Meaning like a 40 breeder or 55 would be fine
  4. Awesome Ideas. We too use real tree's every year and I honestly I hate doing it cause I hate to cut down a tree just for 1 month of decorations. But my wife loves the look and smell of a real pine. So I dont say much I just go along with the flow.
  5. Just wanted to show off the progress of my Fahaka Puffer Pete. He is my thord attempt at keeping a puffer. I had went through my lfs the first two times and both times they showed up sickley and half dead from the start. Being me I figured I had a better shot at bringing the fish out of it than most people in my area. I guess Im not quite as smart as I thought lol. This was my 3rd and final try. This time I ordered it online from a company called petzone and you vould tell this fish was quarantined and medicated prior to selling cause he was fat and happy when I recieved him. Anyhow heres a few pics of my 6month old fat Puffer in my 75G Grow out. I also have a 120 that will be his forever home. I wanted to throw him in my cichlid tank to see if they are as aggressive as the internet says they are. As of now this puffer is the most laid back fish in the tank. Time will tell if it will stay that way. I love putting the internets Rules to the test lol. Hes been in this tank fpr approximately 3 months
  6. I would test your water coming out of our tap. More times than not when Ive seen others have this issue and it always the fact that their water is coming out of the tap with nitrates in it. Hope this helps I forgot to add that if thats the case with the tap water the only way of getting around that is by adding more plants or using remineralized RODI water
  7. Yes! I was losing pressure somewhere and couldnt figure out where. I sprayed everything down with soap and water and never found it. I got lucky and found a Full set on Ebay unopened Kit from co2 art for half the price of my old kit. So now I have to sets of Gauges and 3 co2 tanks lol
  8. I've bought two diff regulators from co2 art and love them both. If you dont wanna spend the money I think NilocG has a set thats less than $150 that are popular too. But thats just the gauges you than have to buy the tubing, check valve and diffuser too so by the time your done your pushing $200 to $250. If you go with CO2 art they have complete packages for 3
  9. When I first got into the hobby I knew just enough not to kill my fish within the first 30 days lol. As time when I realized more and more how much I enjoyed the hobby. I than started researching the variety of fish in my aquarium and started freaking out cause I had a 55G with 3 Oscars 3 Angles a couple common plecos and a Gold fish all crammed in a 55G. Than I found @Cory on the Tube and than realized how much I was doing wrong lol. Back to the fish store I went to return the Gold Fish, Oscars, and both common plecos. I kept the Angles and added some bristle nose plecos. This whole time my PH was staying right at almost 9 and the more I researched it I kept hearing that its better to have a consistent PH rather try to chase one or try altering it. Consistency is key. Unless your a high end breeder or are doing crazy hard shrimp like myself PH would be the last thing on my mind as long as all the live stock look and act happy! A stressed fish is obvious they hide alot they stop eating and just look sick. This was super long and half of it probably not needed but I guess I felt the need to include it lol. Hope this helps
  10. Theres so much conflicting content online about this and its enough to drive you mad lol. I was in your shoes not so long ago and I reached out to a professional and I was lucky enough to get them to help. My C02 comes on 30mins before my ramp up ( lights coming on aka sun rise) and shuts off 30 mins before my lights go out. Aerator is on 24/7. My lights mimic a summer day. I have my lights start low and I have a long ramp up period with only like 3 to 4 hours of full light before It starts the slow, long ramping down process just like a summer day. And since I started this regimen Ive seen explosive growth. I use very little C02. I run mine at like 1 to 2 BPS. Hope this helps.
  11. I'd say 7.4 if it was mine
  12. Hey all! I have what is known as the Pro Elite series gauge set from Co2 art and I specifically bought this particularly expensive set due to the fact that it has a manifold capable of adding additional blocks from running more than one aquarium off of one set of gauges. The thing works great until It gets below 750psi than it starts becoming inconsistent on one of the two bubble counters. The one closest to the gauge is always on point, the next one which is also the last one doesn't kick on like its supposed to. I will start to build pressure but will maybe work at 1 bubble per 30 seconds instead of 2 bbs where I usually keep it. Now I can twist the needle valve just ever so slightly and it takes right off and works like its supposed too. I've contacted co2 arts and they had me check for leaks which there's none, they had me clean my diffusers, which didn't make a diff. I'm at my flipping point and ready to throw this $300 set out the window. Any ideas would be great. and I understand my explanation isn't the best lol. Also I've got my pressure turned all the way up. To me its like its loosing its pressure somewhere even tho I've yet to find a leak. A 5lb tank is lasting me about 6 to 9 months. I've gotten so upset with it I bought another gauge kit but I feel like I've let it beat me and I took the easy way out lol.
  13. If it was me and I was wanting to lower my PH and KH I would use Distilled/RO water. I believe the PH should be neutral at 7 and by just using the RO water it will natuarally bring down the GH and KH of the tank. I would start with doing smaller water changes that way the live stock will slowly adjust to it.
  14. what is your BBS on your co2?
  15. When I first started in this hobby I was thrilled about keeping larger fish but the more time that has passed there's somthing about a 75G that is fully planted with a single strain of Guppy's let loose to just go nutz. With me I'd have a massive colony of Guppies with Cory's cleaning up the bottom and a half dozen of my favorite Ottos or Plecos!!
  16. I honestly would only feed once a week until you get the ammonia under control.
  17. I think we've all been through this lol. For me and with my experience most fish will adjust to your PH, if your just trying to lower the ph to fight the ammonia than in my opinion your doing more harm than good by messing with two diff water parameters. Focus on the ammonia and do constant water changes daily. Like 50% or more. I did this when I first set up my tank and when fish started dying than I did the research I should of done before I bought the fish lol. I would stay away from dumping lots of chemicals in the tank and just stick to water changes. Again its just my opinion and I'm just a country fella from the Midwest who likes to drive my wife nuts and keep lots of aquariums .
  18. I'm looking to find a super nano fish that can handle a lower PH. My Taiwan Bee tank usually stays in the 6's.PH , Temp is usually 70*, GH 7 to 10 and KH 0
  19. Zoom in to our xmas tree topper! He will forever be part of the tree topper!
  20. They work great when your working with RODI water when your remineralizing
  21. @Patrick_G Yes sir its my daily driver 7 days a week during planting and harvesting seasons, I pretty much live in the truck. But in between seasons ol betsey gets a brake and I get to stay in the shop wheres its warm lol
  22. @xXInkedPhoenixX is that a lake view I’m seeing behind those beautiful flowers?
  23. Would really much rather be working on my new Aquarium rack than working on this Half million dollar piece of equipment!! Whats everyone else doing on this beautiful day fall day?
  24. My son has a 40 Gallon planted tank with a bunch of snails and neo's a few guppies and a juvenile Fahaka Puffer that's maybe a couple months old. Anyhow I have a fluval auto feeder on it and I just refilled it less than a week ago and somehow I opened the drum wide open causing it to completely empty itself out in less than a week. I added the auto feeder cause my sons not very good at keeping them fed. This is a heavily planted tank that's been up and running for probably 2 years full of red cherry shrimp and all kinds of rams horn, and mystery snails I literally started this tank that way knowing I was gunna be getting a puffer and the last two times vie attempted to keep a puffer fish I couldn't get them to eat and they always just died so this time I made sure the tank was thriving with live food to give it the best start possible and its worked. He's doubled in size nice and fat. Anyhow back to the main topic. I went up to his room this morning and found the tank completely littered with molded food that looked like it had been there for a few days. I instantly went into panic mode and started a 50% water change and doing a substrate vac. The good news is I've got enough filtration on that tank for a 100 Gallon tank. I've got a Magnum something something canister filter that's supposed to handle up to 75g, with a large sponge on the intake and also have a large Co-op sponge filter running. I pulled the sponge filter and the intake sponge off the canister filter and washed them out in the sink. We have well water so I wasn't too concerned about the BB on the sponges. Should I change 25% water everyday until it straightens out? Should I remove all the plants and doo a deep clean than replant. Will the plants absorb the excess ammonia from the rotting plants? I'll keep a close eye on parameters but just kind of wanted a little bit of advice as to how to handle this. Thanks in advance
  25. I've actually complained to the seller for portraying it as an aquarium plant when it clearly doesn't like to be submerged
