  1. I think I have a case of Epistylis on my hands but I would love some second opinions because I'm not positive. I don't believe its Ick and has none of the behaviors of Ick except for the flashing, so please read through the post before assuming Ick. He was in my main tank and started showing signs about a month ago. It could have been earlier but I had to see him in just the right light to see the multitude of spots. At first I thought for sure it was Ick but I didn't want to expose all the inhabitants in the tank to meds until I was positive. Two weeks later and it was still only him with symptoms and he was behaving normally except for the flashing once in awhile. I did have salt in the main tank this whole time though. Just a small dose for these guys of 1tbsp per 5 gallons. So I then quarantined him and tried higher concentrations of salt and after a week there was no change. I started him on IckX two days ago with daily water changes and redosing. I've also been feeding food dosed with Kanoplex once a day for two days. PH 7.8 - 8, 80° Temp in Qt and main tank, no ammonia or nitrites, keep my main tank under 40ppm nitrates and the Qt tank has barely any nitrates with all the water changes. He is still as of the time of this post acting like nothings wrong. I did treat the main tank with PraziPro about 3 months ago for skin/gill flukes because some got past Qt when adding my Moori Cichlid. Maybe that has some bearing on the current situation. The tank was treated 3 times 1 week apart. Any advice or thoughts, or even criticism would very much be appreciated....Thank You. Pictures of main tank and male in QT tank.
  2. I love all the plants in your tank. It looks very natural and enjoyable for your Betta. My green thumb for aquarium plants is a black thumb of death, I don't do well. Welcome to the forum and I hope you recover well from surgery.
  3. @TOtreesI've never thought of it that way, i guess that makes sense. I do feed green beans along with Zucchini so atleast I can get comfort from that. I think I will still keep what I added today to the tank though. The Pleco absolutely loves Extremes Bottom Wafers. Thank you for your input, I appreciate it.
  4. @Fish Folk Thank you for taking the time to comment. I feed Zucchini also but getting him the protein he needs has always been the issue. Have a good rest of your day and thanks again.
  5. I have long struggled to get food past my African Peacock Cichlids for my Abino Bristlenose Pleco. I remember Cory talking about ways to combat this and decided to try one of them. I installed a piece of black abs line with an angle cut at the bottom, which leads under the two pre-filters in my tank. Because of the steep angle I am able to rest the pipe right on the bottom of the tank. I am hoping this works as I've tried feeding after dark and I'd have to put a ton of food in to get a little past the pigs with fins. This is obviously not healthy for them or the appearance of the tank.
  6. I think your setup is so relaxing to look at. I am so used to having larger tanks but looking at this makes me want to expand my fish keeping hobby to nano tanks. I live on the PA border near Busti NY.
  7. @ScandiDefense, Thank you for sharing the photos of your aquariums. I very much enjoy seeing how others keep fish. My green thumb is no good when it comes to aquariums. Maybe it's my water or just me. So you'd have to be better at growing plants than I am. Good luck in all your endeavors.
  8. @ScandiDefense Thank you and I think livebearers are so awesome to observe and watch them multiply over time. My wife's Black Mollies multiply like crazy if I feed them enough. Thank you again for the compliment and have a good night.
  9. @TrevirI think your tank is amazing and in your kids room to boot. Do they enjoy watching the fish? My son has a Guppy tank and I think its great when he'd rather spend time with his fish and not his phone, Switch, or Xbox. Thank you for sharing.
  10. I am so sorry to hear about the problems you're having. I wonder I what @DaniVis saying is correct. It sounds like the the fish may be struggling because the tank hasn't cycled yet. I am no expert but there are some great videos on YouTube about cycling an aquarium and how it all works. Just don't give up, this is such a rewarding hobby and worth it in the end.
  11. Very beautiful tank for your first one. I struggle with aquarium plants myself but it looks like you're off to a good start. My son has a Guppy tank, he started with five guppies and only five months later has about fifty or so. They reproduce like rabbits. Thank you for sharing your beautiful aquarium.
  12. @Guppysnail thank you and I'm almost at the NY border around Warren PA. We like decorations because we can do things to match our personalities. For instance my wife loves Sugar Skulls so the skull is just her. Someday I'm sure I'll try plants again when I have more time to spend with them.
  13. Hi, my name is Tony Punch and I'm 42 years old and have been enjoying fish on and off since I was 14 years old. My wife and I live in Pennsylvania and we have 8 children but all but 1 aren't really interested in fish. Most of our tanks are right in our livingroom with lots of bracing in the basement. We are getting ready to add 2 more 125 gallon tanks to the mix also. We all enjoy having the fish in our living space where we can enjoy them. I'll even catch all my kids at times admiring especially the Oscar tank. This is the stand I built for my two 75 gallon tanks. On the top there is Lake Malawi Cichlids and an Albino Bristlenose Pleco. On the bottom there is two Bala Sharks, a Common Pleco named Kylo Ren(that a lady was going to throw in a PA river), an Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, a Green Severum, and Ray my Oscar. Please don't judge me on only having 75 gallon tanks for these fish. Everything in the bottom tank plus five silver dollars were in a 150 gallon tank but it started leaking. I'm In the process of building a double 125 stand exactly like this one for these guys. This next one is my wife's tank which is a 36 gallon bowfront. I've always been the fish person in the house until my wife was introduced to Mollys. I was hoping to share my hobby with her someday and Molly's made that possible. She absolutely loves seeing the babys when they're born, she searches everyday. When I'm done getting the two 125s set up these fish are going into the bottom 75 gallon tank showed previously. There is also a longfin Abino Bristlenose Pleco in this tank which she loves to watch. As you will notice we don't really use any live plants (except for Pothos) as they don't seem to like our really hard water or I'm just plant impaired. So please don't judge our bright plastic plants. Next is another 36 gallon bowfront where I put the 5 Silver Dollars I talked about earlier that were in the 150 with Ray and her buddies. There is also a Albino Bristlenose in this tank. Again this is only a temporary home, they'll be joining the Oscar in a 125 gallon tank soon. My biggest fear is being judged just trying to share my fish with all of you. Last is my 12 year old son's ten gallon Guppy tank. He's rocking the famous pineapple house and submarine. He absolutely loves fish and helps me every evening at feed time with all the fish. I help him with tank maintenance but he does a lot of the work himself. His favorite thing to do is watch them eat O-Nip Tabs. He gets nursing at night and the nurses love to look for new baby's. Thank you for reading about our fish and I realize we don't have all the nice live plants like a lot of you do but in all honesty I enjoy fish and don't want to have plants to worry about. I think it would ruin the hobby for me but maybe not. Thanks again for reading.
  14. Thank you for the time you've taken answering my post, I appreciate it and the advice. I will look into what you've said, thank you. @Colu
  15. I appreciate your feedback and advice, thank you. I know in the photo it looks like some ick but that Molly had been on the bottom for two days really struggling. I did a water change yesterday and some of the sand got stuck to her. Sadly she did die last night so there's one left. The main tank a week later still shows no sign of disease. I'm sharing a photo of the other Molly in treatment which is acting much better than the first. @Colu
