  1. I’ve been cycling/ seasoning my new 20 gallon for a while and I’m really enjoying all the new phases of life coming along. Today I noticed copepods and I dropped in some bladder snails. I am having a great time enjoying all the parts of the tank I don’t notice when there are fish in the tank.
  2. I was wondering if the light still fades on and off if you use it with a timer. My boyfriend just got me a new tank for Valentine’s Day and I am looking for my gear!
  3. I have hard water and I wouldn’t say it doesn’t anything dramatic for plant growth. I would first try to keep track of your fertilizing and lighting. maybe write down when and how much on a note pad and note down how the plants are doing. After a few weeks then maybe come back around to the water issue but I think you can probably get where you want with the light and fert adjustments. you might also do some research on items like a wondershell or crushed coral. I know those are used to help with water that is relatively soft to help add back in some minerals and it might be easier to measure how much you are adding in. I have not personally used these so I can’t say for sure if they are effective or how they are used effectively.
  4. I just wanted to share this video on how the light spectrum effects aquarium plants. I thought it was very interesting and helpful!
  5. This is what I was thinking of doing with my next plant order. I don’t think the wool causes issues but I don’t know that for a fact.
  6. I was just watching some coop videos and heard Cory say he plants the plant with the pot in the substrate after adding a root tab into the wool. I don’t know if that’s just until it acclimates or long term. I was curious if you guys plant in or out of the pot the plant comes in.
  7. I am reporting back and I think you are correct. I haven’t see the little guy again until today and tried to get a better photo. For sure doesn’t look like a nerite.
  8. I noticed a new member in my tank yesterday! Not sure how this nerite snail hatched. I have hard water so maybe there is just enough salt! But I am glad he’s here!
  9. Black beard for sure. You can treat the whole tank with aquarium coop easy carbon however it may melt some of your plants. I recommend spot treating it by using the easy carbon with an eyedropper or pipette and applying it directly to the spots with the algae. I know some people also use the same method with hydrogen peroxide. Best long term fix along with the easy carbon is to adjust your lighting down by either strength or length of time. 🙂
  10. I did mine to prevent algae. I set it to be on at the times I’m home the most so I could enjoy my tank more also. No rules as to when! I have a ten gallon but no CO2 but when I upgraded my light I had a lot of algae come in. No algae now!
  11. I have very hard water where I live as well. I’ve found that if I take the felt out completely maybe every few tank cleanings and use a brush for cleaning reusable straws on it I can get the deposits off and they last longer.
  12. I have noticed our Pet smart which is the only pet store in my area is very bare lately as well. I feel like part of it in my area is just lack of hobbyists. I’ve lived here almost five years and only seen one well cared for tank and one other tank that was not looking great. I don’t have a single friend in the hobby and there’s not club here either. I think the issue in my area might partly be climate. Very very dry and hot summers which can mean a lot of water evaporates. We also have extremely hard water. A few businesses in town have some what I think are chiclid tanks but other than that I don’t know anyone really into the hobby. Such a bummer. I also think part of it is shipping and availability of items to the store plus the lack of demand since most people are now back to work.
  13. My mom is a chicken keeper. I just got her one of those little chicken tables and some fruit/veggie hangers for Mother’s Day. She loved it! She started with four chickens and now has around 40 😂
  14. here is the video it’s about 2 mins and 30 secs in. 🙂
  15. I have otos and they are great little fish I never had any issues with them, but they are shy and not the most active little guys. I think Corys are probably a little more fun to watch.
  16. I would love to see this happen. Sounds like fun!
  17. Weve got a cat named Lana and a little mini Aussie named Cassia 🙂
  18. Don’t know if you already check this thread out but there’s some good ones on here! Would love to see more though! The makeshift tools are my favorite part of the hobby! 🙂
  19. I listen to a little bit of everything from heavy metal to country. This morning I’m on some Orville Peck, a masked man who is in the new country scene but sounds very classic in some ways. 🙂 This is a great one by him!
  20. I was having a lot of algae problems with my tank when I upgraded to a better light. I ended up lowering the amount of light percentage and did very little blue. Also swapped over to siesta lighting so that the light was on for shorter periods of time multiple times in the day. For whatever reason the algae seems to not be around when the light is on for two three hour periods and not on for a constant 6 hours. Another thing I found was that when I didn’t do a plateau where the light is the same strength for a while I had less problems. I just have it slowly rise and then go back down. I’ll throw my settings in for context but I am away from home so it won’t let me show the percentages. I have a ten gallon for reference so my strength is very low compared to larger tanks.
  21. I have considered making one. I had no idea they had kits! I just haven’t had the time to really sit down and decide what exactly I would need. Haven’t ever actually had a lid but I’ve got a cat around now and don’t want her little paws in there 😂
  22. Added some new plants from aquarium coop and fertilized!
