  1. How do you rinse brine shrimp before feeding to fish? We only have one fish, so I don't know if it is worth it to buy a Ziss hatchery. Any advise?
  2. @GuppysnailThank you! Would this work? ZOO MED Turtle Clean 75 Fine Mechanical Filter Sponge - Chewy.com
  3. Thank you! I have this aquarium: AQUEON LED MiniBow SmartClean Fish Aquarium Kit, Black, 5-gal - Chewy.com
  4. Can anyone suggest a floating feeder ring that is deep? I would like to break the current beneath the food, so that my betta can actually catch it. While we're at it, any suggestions on baffle water flow in a betta aquarium. Our betta is very active and even seems to enjoy swimming into the current, but it must be hard to rest with so much flow. Ideas? Thank you all so much!
  5. Does anyone have experience with very small shrimp? I would appreciate any suggestions on plants that would be well suited for a small shrimp aquarium. TIA!
  6. For those who have been with Aquarium Co-Op for over a year, could you advise me. My 10-year-old has a small tank set up with crypts and a snail. She wants to fashion it into a shrimp aquarium. She needs to do more research on shrimp before she orders more plants for this aquarium. We hope to get shrimp for that tank in February or March. We live in South Dakota. How long can I give her to research about shrimp habitats, and then choose plants and hardscape? Do we need to order these plants before Chanukkah? before the end of the month? I just don't want the plants to freeze. TIA!!!
  7. I have a Java Moss in my 5-gallon betta tank. At the moment, it is receiving light on about a quarter of the moss. I think that I need to remedy this, but this is a dark water set up, with a fair amount of foliage. It had been in a smaller aquarium, with very little light abstruction. It was actually growing! I didn't think it would grow so quickly! What do I need to give this moss so that it will continue to thrive, despite the transfer to fuller aquarium? TIA!
  8. @xXInkedPhoenixX Thanks. If this water sprite does die off, I'll look into guppy grass.
  9. @xXInkedPhoenixXThank you. I appreciate the feedback. Honestly, I don't know if the water sprite will even make it. I hope it does. I can just transfer any extra to the other tank.
  10. Thank you all for your help! From where could order a couple of nerite snails? Aquarium Coop doesn't mail out snails, do they?
  11. The lighting is very minimal. It is too much for the betta, but it's too low for most plants. However, the Anubias Nana, Anubias Petite, Banana plant, Red Dwarf Lily, and planted Water Sprite are all growing well. I need to both fill out the back and add some in the foreground. Any suggestions on what to do in the foreground?
  12. Thank you! Would I purchase just one Kuhli Loach?
  13. Front and Back of the aquarium that needs more. Thank you. Do you have any specific suggestions? I had hoped that the water sprite would have helped fill up the back, but most of it was damaged in shipping. Most of it is floating at the top. However, the root ball is in good condition and is quickly regrowing!
  14. We started a five-gallon aquarium for our 10-year-old daughter. We will be moving a betta into it once it is ready. We started the aquarium because she is interested in eco-systems...and because nothing much grows outside in the Dakotas in the winter. The soon-to-be betta tank is taking off and proving to be a great nature-study opportunity as plants begin to grow. My concern is that the betta will deffinately want more cover than this tank currently has (or will have in the next month). I threw out all of my fake plants after our last betta tore his tail on them. I could just order large, full plants to fill up the back of the aquarium. However, we want to leave room for growth and discovery. So, any ideas on how we can balance this out? How can I give the betta a little more coverage, while still allowing for growth, change, and progress in the tank over the long winter. Thank you for any suggestions!
  15. I have a wonderful betta that does not get along with our mystery snail. Is there any kind of algae-eater that I could keep with him in a five-gallon aquarium? Obviously, I don't want any other critter to get picked on by our betta. I'm just wondering if there is something else that might work? TIA!
  16. Thank you. IF we have to feed green beans again, I will stick to that time frame!
  17. Thank you, Matt. I do the upkeep, as my child is just learning. I think that your suggestions are good. She has a mystery snail. She would like a few shrimp. I just wasn't sure that the aquarium was big enough for dwarf shrimp. I've never kept shrimp.
  18. What can you put in a 2.5 gallon tank? I want to keep everything alive and healthy, so I don't want to put anything in there that will struggle with the limited space. This aquarium is for a 10-year-old.
  19. Yes, the green beans were in there for several days, because the snail wasn't finding them. Was that a no-no? Thank you for bringing that up. They are supposed to be the same filter, but I will keep an eye on the flow when we try this again.
  20. The ammonia spiked in the five-gallon aquarium, so I won't be moving the Betta anytime soon. I will have to figure out why this tank spiked. Could it be the green beans that I fed the snail?
  21. Thank you everyone. I have never moved Bettas around much. Our last Betta had such a mellow disposition that he didn't seem to react to his upgrade. I only had this Betta in the new aquarium for about 20 minutes. My husband though I was going to kill him, so we put him back in the 2.5 gallon. I feel terrible, because the 2.5 is planted- there's not a lot of room! It would make a great fry tank. I will check parameters and take pictures, then get back with you. Side note, could my daughter keep something in that 2.5 gallon? Any ideas?
  22. Yes, the tanks are in the same room, about eight feet apart. The 2.5 is a bookshelf, which provides more protection from light. The 5.0 is on an oak chest of drawers. They are in my daughter's room, so I can't really get decent pics or new parameter readings tonight. I can probably do it all tomorrow, though.
  23. The water parameters, plant life, and substrate are almost identical. There was a mystery snail in the larger aquarium, but the betta didn't like the snail. I just moved the snail to the 2.5 gallon (they have now swapped tanks, but are still separated).
