  1. I agree with @lefty o. 67 people died so far in the fires. People come first, pets second, precious possessions last.
  2. This is something that can be optional, and I’m not asking for the exact address with a street view, but a town and state, or at least state would be nice. For example, I live in St. Louis. There is some 3.5 million people in metro area. Good luck finding me just from that info, but it could be a nice added piece of information to put my water changes and chemicals I use in perspective. P.S. I don’t know if you are aware of this. But anyone that posts to this forum can be tracked thru their IP address. Even if anonymous. And the IP address can be linked to the physical address.
  3. You just can’t get around those pesky organic sin the soil. Darn
  4. @Zenzo I think it would be very useful at times to know the location of a poster. For example, if somebody is talking about tap water quality or shipping something. Maybe just under the avatar include city and state. What do you think about this?
  5. Thanks @Guppysnail. How can we reach an administrator? And who would that be?
  6. I like the idea of making it optional too.

  8. The fish you have now all like to be in larger groups of their own species. I would get a few more of the ones you already have instead of getting a whole new species for your tank. Maybe get 5 more serpea tetras and 3 platys. Platys could go after the algae if you don’t feed too much.
  9. I believe it’s called medex. It’s moisture resistant mdf for high moisture areas. But there is only one place around me that has it for sale and that’s only sometimes. If you can find some, that might be a good compromise between water resistance and price.
  10. One benefit of mdf, particle board and the similar is that they are very flat and if treated properly with paint or some other kind of water resistant finish, they can stay flat and last a long time. It’s not pretty, but if you mix wood glue and water and coat the cabinet, it makes a decant water resistant coat. I was a cabinet maker when I wore a younger man’s clothes.
  11. As far as I know, pretty much all of the aquatic plants can be grown emerged.
  12. Fluval stratum, generally, doesn’t leach ammonia. How are you cycling the tank, where is the ammonia coming from? Food? Ammonium chloride? Did you try adding a bunch of beneficial bacteria? How about ammonia detoxifier?
  13. Pets in general have claiming effects on humans. I don’t think fish are any more special than any other animal. In my experience, I have the same feeling observing my fish and observing my dads sheep and chickens. There are even more benefits to sheep and chickens, like eggs and meat. I think that most important thing for us to stay mentally healthy is to stay physically active. Newton’s first law of motion. Object in motion wants to stay in motion, object at rest wants to stay at rest.
  14. I know they will eat Java fern, I’m not sure about bolbitus. Only plants I know of that knife fish won’t munch on are anubias.
  15. You can put the gravel in a mesh bag, like you have crushed coral in, and hang it next to the crushed coral for a month or so.
  16. Try plant with thicker leaves like anubias.
  17. My recommendation is to add the substrate, add your hard scape and plants and let it cycle by adding some food or by adding ammonia directly. Test the water often. As soon as ammonia and nitrite read 0 you can add fish.
  18. I go to a grocery store and when I buy groceries they put them in a free bag so I can carry it out. How do you carry groceries out of the store? Separation system. LOL. I have CT scanner like at the airport I send the bags thru and it sorts out the bags for me. Clean, dirty, whole, torn…JK. And the grocery bags are FDA approved, so…
  19. I’m pretty sure that you wash everything first before you put in the tank, right? So why not the plastic bag? And you don’t have to use the bag that the soap spilt into. 😝 I’m alway trying to save money. If I can reuse something, I will do that before I buy a new thing. This way I save a bit of money and save earth from one extra piece of trash.
  20. Thanks for the clarification, I’ll have to find me a fine mesh net to try this out.
  21. Wouldn’t the mash net allow for gunk to escape back to the aquarium? Plastic bag is reusable, you don’t have to get a new one every time you clean your filter. Grocery bags are free too and I get a few every week
  22. Don’t feed them for a couple of days and see what happens after
