  1. Brown diatoms love new tanks... and slow water. Improving water circulation might help a bit.
  2. Male and female rosy bitterlings in spawning mode. Bonus pond snail, also very native.

    Ich?

I had one case of long-lasting ich (or something that looked exactly like ich to a naked eye), more than 3 weeks long. It resisted the medicine I successfully used before (not Ich-X or other meds mentioned in this thread). In the earlier treatments, ich was gone after 3 to 5 days. But in the long-lasting case, the number of white spots decreased a bit and then increased again and there seemed to be no end to it. Eventually, I had to move all the fish into a hospital tank and treat with salt, which got rid of ich, although some fishes didn't make it.
  4. It's a beautiful hardscape, the stones fit together very naturally, nicely done. Flip the furniture or rotate the bookshelf vertically to free up some space for a proper stand, or just rest the tank on the floor - either option will likely be much better than using the current "stand". I hope someone experienced in large tanks can advise you on the moving issues, I only have easily transportable small aquariums.
  5. I would be more concerned about leveling than about weight load. Delamination and swelling of the top board might induce torsional stress on the tank, and cause it to leak catastrophically (this is what happened to the tanks of my SO). If I were you, I would be more comfortable to use the furniture on the left as a tank stand, it looks a lot more solid.
  6. Sorry, but this does not look like a suitable stand for a fish tank to me, even for a small fish tank. My SO had two ~4g aquariums on a very similar looking book shelf, some swelling of the shelf occurred after a minor leak and both tanks were ruined. Your "stand" is already showing signs of damage, and it's not a design that is easy to reinforce...my advice is not to risk your tank on it.
  7. High risk of neck injury and acutely disturbed sense of order in particularly susceptible aquariumists. 🏥 😐
  8. Mine gladly ate giant duckweed, when I had it. Pretty sure he would eat normal duckweed too, just because he eats absolutely anything that gets into his tank.
  9. My (very helpful) suggestion is to straighten up the thermometer. Otherwise, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐. // also, I love your avatar :)
  10. They won't hurt anything. Fish, snails, shrimp are totally fine with detritus worms. If you want to treat your fish with juicy live food, you might poke the substrate a bit with a chopstick or something similar to release some worms into the water column. My bitterlings loved when I did that.
  11. Hm, interesting... I have never seen hoopoes in Europe (or anywhere else, actually) before coming to China. My first encounter with these magnificent species happened here in Beijing, in YuanMingYuan park. They usually come in pairs, once I saw a trio in the middle of a pretty fierce fighting. They don't seem too skittish, so if your friend ever wants more of them, he might consider China as an alternative to South Africa :)
  12. Lots of these guys in our pet market, sold as "ice" or "ice-blue" convicts. Very pretty!
  13. Plant: Anacharis. Because it's tough and pretty. Fish: Bettas. Or gouramies if I can't get bettas. Because anabantoids are the best and no one can change my mind on this :)
  14. I fed excess frogbit to my read-eared slider. If there are turtle people near you, they might be interested in some fresh turtle food.
  15. Casper is gorgeous! He seems very familiar too, some of my bigger fishes are exactly like this. It's a lot of fun to keep them despite the murderous attitude.
  16. Interesting. I have ten cardinals, one diamond-head neon and six green neon tetras in a tank with one balloon pearl gourami (he is a gentle tank boss). The cardinals ignore every other fish including themselves, they don't school and don't pick on any tankmates. The lonely diamond-head acts just like a cardinal. The green neons, on the other hand, vigorously chase each other all the time. I guess there might be some species-dependent minimum number required for non-aggressive behavior, even in the presence of a larger fish.
  17. Just a view from my window this morning. Blue sky with pretty clouds is a very rare sight here, and it's amazing how much it lifts up one's mood. I learned to really appreciate it :)
  18. That's a lot of bears! The last photo is like a modern version of the "Morning in a pine forest" :) (photo from the internet).
  19. Same sentiment, although I had giant duckweed, which is a bit easier to deal with. It had so many positives but the maintenance hassle eventually out-weighted them and I got rid of the duckweed (it's not that hard with the giant variety).
  20. I am no car expert :) and can only tell about them long in the past. Back then, Nivas were great! From today's point of view...well, I guess they are probably still great, for those of tough body, strong mind, and tons of endurance. Totally not recommended for people wishing for (even the most basic) comforts and (any) ease of driving, let's put it this way. Still kinda cool though :) No... I don't even own one. But those cars used to feel like one is driving on a wild terrain no matter what :)
