  1. I know this is off topic, but based on the picture of the tank, I'm guessing you got the 36 gallon bowfront from Petsmart (which would be the same one I have), and you're using the original, included kit light. The tank also appears to have the lace leaf java fern(which will be fine), but also dwarf hairgrass and a sword maybe? Anyway, I would suggest getting a plant light for that tank to replace the low light kit light for the sword and hairgrass. I ordered some acrylic off of Amazon and made my own lid for the tank, however if you didn't want to do that, you could just cut a hole in the provided lid that was long enough for the light to fit through. I am using a Fluval 3.0 on mine and my dwarf hairgrass is very happy. On the subject of fish however, I would recommend getting kuhli loaches as your bottom dweller/clean up because you don't need as many and they are nocturnal, so the angelfish is less likely to go on a killing spree, and the gourami might get into fights with the angelfish since angels and bettas tear each other apart and gouramis are closely related to bettas. If you start seeing aggression, I would advise you to immediately return the gourami or angel(though you seem to have your heart set on an angel so maybe the gourami). Hope this helps
  2. If you really don't want snails, Irene from "Girl Talks Fish" did a YouTube video about plant dips to kill snails and snail eggs, and if you wanted, you could get a 5 gallon plant quarantine tank and a pea puffer because the pea puffer should eat any snails on the plants. This is the link to the video about killing snails on plants. Hope this helps! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2bSdZ3ZEmE&t=2s
  3. Two weeks ago, I bought 8 female guppies, 10 rasbora hets, and 10 cherry shrimp. Since then, I have lost 5 of the 8 female guppies to a fungal infection, but this morning I found a male guppy that had died, however he was purchased many weeks prior to the new fish arriving. I’m thinking that maybe the females died from something like a parasite, but were then attacked by the fungal infection once they were dead. I have treated 1 week with a packet of Maracyn and ParaCleanse along with a teaspoon of Ich-X, then I treated the fungal infection for five days with a packet of Maracyn and a teaspoon of Ich-X every morning. Any ideas what it could be? I know the nitrites are a little high, however there is a tablespoon of salt so the nitrite should bond with the salt instead of the red blood cells in the fish. I have these fish in a 10 gallon tank, and the water parameters are as follows: Ammonia: 0 ppm Nitrate: 10 ppm Nitrite: 1 ppm GH: 150 ppm KH: 40 ppm pH: 7.2 Thanks for your help!
  4. If there is any white growth or signs of a bacterial or fungal infection, I would try treating it with Maracyn since an infection might explain the missing flesh. Since it seems the fish are new to you, they could have gotten an infection at a fish farm, wholesaler, or your local pet store without anyone noticing. Hope this helps!
