  1. I only have 1 warpaint shiner at this time, which can barely be seen off to left in the background. My camera footage is poor but I was also coming off an algae bloom and the water is still a little cloudy. I also have a different kind of lighting, with 2 A20 spotlights, so there are some shadows in the tank as well, and these factors make the colors hard to see, except for in person, but I assure you it's a Fieryblack. Sorry, can't see the Fieryblack real well in those photos. Sorry, can't see the Fieryblack real well in those photos. Warpaint is on the right in the first photo only.
  2. Sure thing, was waiting for it to upload. Alot of the rocks and sand were collected at the same location as the shiners.
  3. Well, I have one male ready to go! He's been guarding a spot between 2 rocks for a bit, pursuing too young and unready females that venture near.
  4. Not much evaporation per se, but the fan does blow water and coupled with the fact that my flow system tends to splash, it has to be topped of fairly frequently. I'm going to create a hood soon to prevent this.
  5. What I think makes the one that I have work so well is that it has the 4 fans working in unison. Not done an official measurement of temp changes, but I know that my water was 70-72 degrees but is definitely well in the lower to mid 60s. The single fan output just might not be enough for that size tank. Just my $0.02.
  6. Beautiful fish! While I have never kept them (except for warpaints), Luxilus shiners in general all look absolutely stunning in breeding colors. I hope to someday keep both Crescent Shiners, and Cardinal Shiners are also on my wishlist.
  7. I have a fan from Amazon on my Catawba River (almost finished) tank. it works extremely well, cooling down the water significantly (feels like an actual coldwater creek). Unless you have an exceptionally hot room, I think that it would do its job for most purposes without insulation material. it has 2 settings, medium and high power. The one significant issue with this particular fan is that the bracket does not fit larger rimmed tanks (rigged it to where it's fine in my case). High power can be a bit noisy though. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B2R438TJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
  8. Nice female! I unfortunately got mostly males, and some very young possible females. I'll go back sometime and see if I can't get a few females, but gotta wait for a pair of waders because though it is NC, it's in the foothills of the Blue Ridge and is coooooolllddd!!!! Hope you have success with the Fieryblacks! (p.s: Have you had any success with Greenheads recently? I've been extraordinarily busy recently so haven't been on the forum much)
  9. I'll have to watch the last one a bit late, been really busy recently.
  10. Impossible to photograph all right. They refuse to stay still for even a second!
  11. These guys deserve way more attention than they get. There are a few people who do breed this species, such as Derek Wheaton and Phil Farell, and obviously @Fish Folk and me eventually (I hope). However, it is pretty much only available from breeders, special NANF dealers, or in native fish circles. I hope to one day get this wonderful fish species to be more common in the hobby.
  12. @Fish Folk Oops, forgot to attach pictures, hol up...
  13. it's pretty simple. It's got 4 fan-apparatus, and the fan points at the water, blowing cold air on the water. (One small thing, check the rim size of your tank to make sure it is correct, I got the wrong one so it's between the tank and the wall, secure in this case). It really works a lot better than I thought it would. Normally this tank would be about 72 degrees, fluctuating. Now I think it's about 65ish on the high setting.I can feel the difference just by sticking my finger in it, feels a cool upper piedmont creek. Got the 4 fan one for 30 dollars on Amazon. I'm going to try to use it in the future to breed greenhead shiners, see if that will work for them.
  14. I keep mine cooler using a 4-fan chiller. Works very well for me. Though fish are a bit more tolerant of warm Temps here I'd imagine, due to it being fairly hot in the summer. Feels like an oven outside in the summer sometimes.
  15. These are some of my favorite darters. Only live in the Upper Santee river basin in NC and SC. Caught 3 almost a week ago. I'll try to get a good picture of them soon in my aquarium. The first photo is mine, the second is from Ncfishes.com
  16. About to change 25% water in my unfinished Catawba Biotope. Got a lot of algae in it, so I've been considering obtaining a Central Stoneroller to help keep it under control.
  17. That's a good sale, might just open up Amazon in the other tab....
  18. Welcome to the forum! Man, someday I need to keep Cichlids. Never have before.
  19. Nice! Someday I want to have a large, dedicated puffer tank, as the just seem like amazing fish with great personality.
