Interesting breeding ideas for the lazy fishkeeper?
NathJK replied to Corbidorbidoodle's topic in Fish Breeding
Bristlenose plecos 100% for the lazy breeder -
I recently found one living in my under gravel filter! Pulled off an uplift tube to clean it and it swam out from under the bottom plate. Far too big to get out on its own. Must have gone through the outlet while still small and grown up in there in the dark
-
Thanks i check it out

I'd make sure to do some real good gravel vac between treatments to make sure any worms are removed. I'd also look at a levamisole treatment if you found worms.
-
I'd be interested to see the results. Love playing with fish genetics and breeding, it's can be very interesting

Moved some boesemani to a spawning tank to pull some mops. Changed some water. That's it

Hi, glad to be here, from Sydney. I'm looking forward to being able to buy aquarium coop products in Aus some time soon! I'm breeding rainbows, bristlenose and Corys.

Sounds great -
Remember you need tanks to grow out fry if you plan on breeding different species.

With enough caves and cover it's possible but probably easier to do it in a separate tank.

Algae Outbreak - Brown Diatom?
NathJK replied to Darth Mollusk's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
Yep that's diatom algae. Just a tank getting seasoned. -
The plants will love 1ppm ammonia. I wouldn't even think about it, no matter how high the ammonia goes.
-
Melafix works about as well as a water change.
-
It has to be something that would kill everything so my guess would be ammonia, but it's just a guess without testing. Seems pretty likely though in a school tank that's small over a weekend. Doesn't take much to do in a whole tank.
-
You could add some salt you the tank, especially if you have low gh. They seem to like some salt and minerals.

I wouldn't worry. Sometimes corys just do that, especially in a new environment or when spooked.
-
Yeah it's algae. Putting your light on a timer is a good start. Give it a wipe and regular water changes, should be sweet.
-
I've had this on sterbai before. Treat with salt and good clean water. If it gets worse hit it with some meds.

My first attempt at aquascaping a planted tank
NathJK replied to Reneenay's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
Looks like a great start. Will look good with a background and plants. And fish of course -
Using tank water on roses
NathJK replied to GreenCircleGirl's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
It should be fine just make sure the water isn't spashing up onto the trunks and leaves. And leaves that hit the soil and water can spread this kind of disease -
You can make one out of a small tray. Cut a hole in it and fill with foam, add an air stone, water line or uplift tube from pvc with a power head or air stone
-
Certainly looks like a cory egg but looks a bit damaged. Good signs though if they're trying to breed
-
That's awesome. Is it USA only or does it just depend on finding users from your own area wherever that is.
