Biogeography of Southeastern Fishes by Michael Sandel 2011
By Daniel

The opening line to this paper says it all "The southeastern United States is inhabited by the greatest diversity of aquatic plant and
animal species in North America, and the most diverse freshwater ichthyofauna outside the Tropics".
The author goes on to describe the forces that have led to this diversity include rising and falling sea levels and the pulsations of the recurring ice ages. It way nerdy but there are fabulous nuggets of original insights in this paper.
He focuses on the Pygmy Sunfishes of the genus Elassoma, but the conclusions apply to all Southeastern Fishes.
We North American fish keepers barely realized how good we have here, but isn't that always the way?

The Aquarium, Neon Tetra, November 1936, Innes Publishing Co.
By J. Mantooth
This is a color scan of The Aquarium, Neon Tetra issue, Vol. 7 No. 7, originally copyrighted and printed in 1936 by Innes Publishing Co.
Copyright research indicates original copyright was issued in 1936 under the Copyright Act of 1909, offering a 28 year term without renewal. Database searches (copyright.gov) do not indicate a renewal was made in or before 1964, as was required to extend copyright. A secondary search for combined volumes of The Aquarium periodical, presented as a bound book, was performed and located no additional renewals prior to the Copyright Act of 1978. In short, due diligence has been performed and it appears to be safe.
